i think mafia II will be a huge hit since its coming out on all platforms at the same time and once people realize how awesome these guys are at creating games there is gonna be a huge demand for m3. i personally would like to see it not past the 60's, just cuz gta has been there done that even tho 2k could blow them guys outta the water i am sure they could make it pretty sweet. 20's-50's is perfect era for this guy

or they could just make it so we can play as Paulie or some other dude, from the first game! d:
    - i think they should let the game keep having history.. both from the first mafia and from real life!

Yeah. The first Scarface film from 1932 was brilliant. I loved it. That was based on Capone's Chicago outfit and the relationship with his wife in the 20's
first... PG1 I totally agree with you! If there will be MAFIA games after MAFIA II which seems to be quite possible as these 2 MAFIA games are already so awesome games. So, in my opinion, the MAFIA games that will come in future should be in earlier eras, I'd prefer too 20's - 40's but! even more the earlier era (the born of the Cosa Nostra in Sicily).

I think that the "MAFIA III" should be "Part I" of a Project, which "Chapter I" (of the Part I) would take place in Sicily when Cosa Nostra starts. "Chapter II" (of the Part I) would take place in the US simultaneously with Chapter I in Sicily.

The Part I should take place from latter half of 19th century (especially from 1880 when the "Black Hand" stabilises in the US) till 1930 when the "Black Hand" has already ended (--> Part II) and simultaneously in Gangi, Sicily Mussolini and his troops "destroyed" Cosa Nostra (Attention! thousands of mafiosos were in captivity/process to be captived and so on, death penalties etc.)

    "Part II" - MAFIA IV
Part II of the Project, would take place in the US when The "Black Hand" has ended and the Italian immigrants/invades has came in the US, and the "5 Families" (Italian-American) + and other families replaces the Black Hand. Then, the 5 Families ends up to "Commission" in 1931 which rules the Mafia (so there's not anymore Capo di tutti Capi, "Boss of Bosses") and only Families votes for everything (democracy).
So, 1920-1940 is the era of Part II

And again, there would be 2 chapters, above of Part II would be Chapter I
and Chapter II would take place simultaneously in Sicily when the Cosa Nostra reorganizes.

Mainpoint: "MAFIA III-IV" story should be chronologically with History of the Mafia and the history is really important and the mafia-games must be based on a true story

Last: I dont like the idea of MAFIA III will take place in 1960 - 2000 etc.
as quoteing Frankie Yale, those eras are already been in games like GTA, and many others, but mainly in GTA series, and as Frankie has said: Mafia really DID went "downhill" after Vito Genovese died in 1969

In my personal opinion, the American mafia went downhill after Vito Genovese died in 1969.
Then: There would be MAFIA V-VI, and another chapters which would take place from 1950-2020 ^^

    Feel free to argue!

    Cool

It would be cooler if it were in Sicily, because that is where the Mafia originated, I also think it should stay in the 30s, 40s, 50s, time period. Thats the most thrilling for mafia history

50s was the last decade of "old" era.
60s is already not so interesting, it's more aggressive and youthful, more GTA'dish.

There's hard to maintain one's reputation for all sequels. So I don't want Mafia 3, just because it never, NEVER will be better than Mafia 1. We will be never crying for ending. Because it's like the first love.

I don't want to extend Mafia series, because it will be certainly banal and ordinary.

But we all know, 2K (like all the others) want to earn a lot of money...

    Late 50s

    would be good

    Early to mid 1960s

Proberly not the best era since there was a major crackdown on the mafia

    Late 60s to mid 70s

Proberly a good era but it has its flaws

    Late 70s to mid 80s

Ok era late 70s defently same with early 80s but if based around drug trade then ending the game at mids 80s would proberly be good since their was a crackdown on drug trade

In terms of era, Mafia 1 was in the 1920s/1930s and Mafia 2 is in the 1940s/1950s. Perhaps Mafia 3 would be set during the 1970s/1980s? Would the setting be Miami or Las Vegas?

I imagine 2K Czech might draw inspiration from The Godfather 2 and Casino; thus, if Mafia 3 is ever made, it would be set in Las Vegas during the 1970s.

    Thoughts?

Not a bad idea. I live in vegas so it would be cool for me to see what it would look like in game if they brought the "old" vegas back. Maybe burying bodies in the desert, robbing casino's, maybe even running your own casino for the mafia. It would be a cool setting but I think they are going to keep vito for awhile. They worked very hard on that character, so maybe you could be vito in his 50's or 60's running around vegas doing jobs for the mob. would be cool haha

Every mob movie/game has the mafia from Sicily as their main mafia. They need to originate it and maybe do the mob from naples or up north. Maybe the camorra?

But yes I think they should keep it in the earlier time period as well because gta is already doing today's mafia.

Yes but GTA isn't the Italian mafia, the Italian mafia nowadays would make a great subject for a game. Is the family of the Sopranos from Sicily? I thought they were partial from Naples and partially from some small village (which may be around Sicily). I'm actually asking (you seem to have a lot of knowledge about these things), not trying to correct you .

I still think that Mafia 3 should be set in ~1960 - 1968

How about in a Las Vegas parody...Los Vargas anyone?

I would love an authentic Italian game (without any English), based on an actual Italian city. I know many will oppose because an all-Italian game wouldn't be liked very much. But if it would be the most realistic of all three (back to simulation based driving etc.) it could be the most beautiful game ever made... Although it's starting to sound more like a movie..

i was thinking maybe las veagas in 60's or 70's just so it is a bit different and then it flashes back to maybe when the don was younger in sicily or something. just like the godfather movie. But who knows maybe they are planing to continue the story from mafia 2 or possibly mafia 1

You really can't continue mafia 1's story... that's why they didn't with mafia 2. I mean there may be refrences or ties to the 1st one but that story is done and I'm sure mafia 2 will be similar

I was thinking like it could be an continue on the M2. Like the life(jurny) of vito and joes gose on but the therd key-player could be an Insider wich makes the number 3 as =M3
Becaus the game M2 only playes over an period of 10 years of vitos life.
    Just an opinion!.

Well, I think we need to find out what the outcome of Mafia 2 is. If the different endings of the game of significantly different (like certain characters die in one ending who don't in another), then it would be difficult to make a direct sequel in Mafia 3. For example, say 3 significant characters die in one playthrough. Then two of those characters and two other important ones die in another playthrough, etc. If that happens, then we can't really do a link-up in the sequel where ALL of those endings were canon because a high number of characters might die if we add them all together. As far as we know, Vito and/or Joe could die and we wouldn't really be able to have a sequel that continues to chronicle their lives.

Your whright in one whay and wrong to!
I get your point but it depeands on how thees 4 endings would be!
Maybe they are somehow the same maybe not!
but in my opinion i belive it can be done just like the Saw-movies.The main key is that the story is deeaply/complicated.!

Generaly speaking you can not really continue a story that has multiple endings. For instance bioshock 2 doesn't involve jack.and this was because the devs wanted to respect the players choices they made in the first game. I'm sure that would be a similar senerio for mafia 2

Aside from dinges great idea -- I would love to see a Mafia game set in either modern times, or the mid 80s. For me those are some of the most interesting periods in Mafia history.

ok a bump on the topic because i miss it

well the 80s is when they cracked down on drugs then in the late 80s they started to crack down on the Mafia in the 90s the Mafia crumbled so from the mid 50s to the 70s would be pretty good

Thats what I think is very interesting -- it can really capture the desperate feeling of these guys during those periods, and it would be fascinating. In terms of mob history, there was still alot of interesting stuff going on at the time.

well i guess since the games are half true (world war 2, probation etc) and the other half is fiction that they could work around that also the FBI mainly attacked the Italian Mafia on the East Coast New york, Albany, Miami etc but centrel and the westarn coast of the U.S weren't effected by the FBI as much so if it was based on that coast then it would be easier regarding the story and making it not end after 5 years

Well thank you . I'd love a modern time Mafia story, something in the genre of the Sopranos.

If a Mafia III were to be set in modern times, the story would involve a lot of snitching etc. which is pretty popular to many gangster at the moment. Maybe even a native Italian cop going undercover in the mob but he falls in love with the hierarchy or something and he fakes his own death or something. That would be original...

All I hope is that it stays Italian, although not every Italian Gangster plays by the rules, at least they have rules. Russian mobsters, American mobsters etc. don't have any rule-book whatsoever.

Mr Faustin, gta? Sorry I'm not familiar with this. Anyway all I'm saying is that American mob, Russian mob etc. aremore recent and knew a lot of different development and the rules they have are nowhere near as honourable as the Italian mafia. And even if they have these rules, there's no way anyone is playing buy them. I know that most part of the Italian crime organisation isn't playing by the rules anymore but they have a rich history imo.

I have to disagree with this. For one, I've never heard of an American Mob, unless you're talking about LCN. Secondly, I think the Russian Bratva has an incredibly rich history, just not so much in America. Personally, I think the Russian mobs are more tight-knit and even more traditional than the Italian Mafia. After all, I think they're pretty successful if you're not hearing so much about them. On the other hand, the Italian Mafia has had disgrace after disgrace of informants and secrets revealed.

We don't know that much about the Russian mob simply because I doubt they have had as many informants compared to their Italian counterpart. Now, I'm not saying that there haven't been any Russian informants (since I'm sure that there have been) however, I haven't heard of a Russian counterpart to John Gotti who caused as much publicity. I think that's the mark of a successful criminal organization. This, if not anything else, shows that the Russian mob is playing by the rules more than the Italian one.

Well nowadays not only full blood Italians or Italian Americans are allowed in an Italian crime organisation, I heard they actually take full blooded Americans and even Europeans. The Italian mob has been a much bigger focus point to the media, they are more notorious of not bigger. So I think it's logical that they know more snitches etc. Also with the massive drug use, they can flip a mobster quite easy, it's serving 30 to life or witness protection which is quite good nowadays.

Russian Mafioso give me less of a family vibe but if there's one thing they can do it's keeping their mouth shut. They have a crazy history with the Gulag etc., some Russians are like machines (I know quite a lot of them). But the few rules they have are really harsh and strict. I actually take back what I've said about them not playing by their rules, because they really never talk...

Very true, but to be honest as a full blooded italian myself i would never get involved with the mafia unless i have no other choice of living. I remember my grandfather's pizzeria and mobsters used to go there all the time asking my grandpa "if he ever needed favors" I just think they wanted a piece of his profit from his business. Idk he was friends with a lot of mafiosi cause my granps used to help them out but i was too little to even understand what was going on. Unfortunately he died before i had a chance to even grow up and actually have a conversation about this, it would have been cool if he told me his side of the story

That's intriguing dude! Mobsters in my country are politicians lol (not kidding) it must be cool to hear them talk. I really like their vocab and their intonation, at least what I've heard in movies/sopranos but I was told that Sopranos actors are all Italians who grew up in NJ so their way of speech is probably authentic.

Your grandpa had a pizzaria, now that's classic . You're saying you're full blood Italian, who lives in NY, that must be exciting. You should suit up and walk around with some friends, people will fear you lol.
