I want to offer something for Mafia players. as you know besides the italian mafia there are a lot other organized crime groups.. such as the Russian Mafia (thieves in law) or the Asian Organized groups (Yakuza/Triads) I am tired of this italian mafia. I bet 90% of the folk here don't even know about mafia. they assume that they do by watching a few movies like "the goodfellas" or the "casino" guys please! the best stories are the untold ones!

Here's a quick Russian Mafia Lesson for you guys.
there is a term such as "Vor V Zakone" a Thief in Law. those of you who dont know who they are, these people are the equevelant of the godfather. you can't simply become a Thief, you have to earn respect, and then later be coronated as one. three other thieve's have to vouch for you. i suggest you guys go watch some documentaries on russian mafia and how it originated so you guys understand better. in the 1990's there was a huge Mafia War going on in Russia. The Thieves' were fighting for their rackets and extortions. just a thought, wouldnt you want Mafia III to be set in those times? in the 90's when soviet union just perished. with soviet cars, with Ak-47's!! I mean come on guys. there has never been a Russian Mafia game before. Let me know of your thoughts please.
I think a Russian Mafia game is a good idea, although,i dont think the developers would choose, to set the location in Russia, imagine the characters of the game speaking in russian and the players who do not speak russian,to be forced to read the english subtitles.Of course they could do it in english, but then is a minus for the atmosphere and for the game realism.I think the land of opportunity is a good place, remember that all the major organized crime groups are present in the US.It brings also more opportunities for the game. What about the Irish Mafia who is "one of the oldest organized crime groups in the United States, in existence since the early 19th century",or the Mexican drug cartels.

I heard many saying that they would like a nowadays mafia game.My opinion is that you can deliver a great atmosphere when you reproduce the past or imagine the future. It could be interesting, a future mafia

No, 2k's boss mentioned mafia while talking about not releasing sequels annually and some took that to mean it was already being made, but nothing has ever been confirmed.

If Mafia 2 were to have a continuation for the next game (Mafia 3) it should have a story like this...

The game should really start in late 50s or early 60s in the city of Lost Heaven or a city based in Chicago. Then main character should really be Joe. The plot should start with Joe settling down in a nice neighborhood & starting his criminal life all over again but, this time... smarter than before. Ever since his betrayal in Empire Bay, Joe met new contacts (friends), & started working as an "Associate" for mob boss Don Pavino. After gaining the trust & being loyal to the Don. Joe's wish of being "Made" was finally being granted. After doing several missions for the Pavino Crime Family & nearly saving Don Pavino's life at a Mafia Commision meeting, the Don believed it was time for Joe to become a "Caporegime" for the family & was to have his own family. After several years past, Joe believed it was time to expand his crime family to Empire Bay & take control of the city. Joe, now known as Don Barbaro seeks for information of Vito Scaletta his former "bestfriend" who he wants to know about. After wiping all the families in Empire Bay & becoming a drug baron in the city, Joe finally gets the break he's been looking for. Joe recieves a call from no other than Vito himself who explains everything from the day they last saw eachother & how he himself had killed Don Vinci & old Leo. Vito had arranged a meeting for him & Joe, & also reveals he is also a Don in the old country (Italy, Sicily) Soon after Joe recieves a call from Don Pavano who warns him about Vito, who he says is bad news for Joe now & wants Empire Bay for himself & plans on killing Joe. Joe gets his mob ready in his mansion, & surprisingly Vito's mob storms the mansions nearly killing everybody but Joe, who was missing. During the battle, Joe headed to Vito's place who was now all alone. Joe enter the house & was in shock after over earing Vito & no other than Don Pavano himself making plans to kill Joe. Seconds later, Joe interupts the conversation, killing Don Pavano in the main floor & killing Vito with no mercy in his office. The game ends with Joe recieving flashbacks of him & Vito when they first join the Mafia, Joe ends it when this quote " it was business but yet it was personal"

GTA 4is mainly a russian ogc game
Sleeping dogs comes out in august which is a open world game about the triads
you already have the Yakuza series

I like italian mafia the best for game wise so much more know about them then the others, so more you can build off. i am waiting
for sleeping dogs though that will be the next game i get.

I would like to see Mafia 3 with kinda an LA Norie game play just with an open world option.

Also i would like to see in the future of i guess like a rpg game maybe sorta like skyrim. but in stead of chosing a race. you get chose your family (ie italians, russian, asians eC)

rumour from Czech source which is probably as good as any

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...box-ps4-report

seems like another dodgy story to me, the staff cutbacks were well reported inc some senior/experienced people so why start hiring again to fill posts.....

I am not sure what to think, after all I do expect to see Mafia III sometime, I think the franchise has its place and considering the problems they had when developing Mafia II I think if they get some better directions and are more fortunate then a third installment of the series is possible.

If the next-generation consoles do get released late next year then at least they can plan more this time then last time it seems.

It does not say but I expect it to come to PC as well even though only consoles are mentioned in the article, no PC version no Mafia III for Arch.

Just give it to Rockstar please. 2k,dunno if you are reading this, but if you give it to Rockstar, this game will take off fast.

It could be a collaboration between 2k Czech and Rockstar Games, so 2k Czech can still have a say.

IF anyone played Max Payne 3, remember when you were introduced with the mob?Remember how they developed the characters there, it felt like it was a REAL modern gangster that knows business(not Mafia 2 where it was an insult every few minutes). You can hate Rockstar all you want, but they do a lot of research on their games when they make it.

Such a collaboration is difficult to achieve. Altough these things are not said publicly often, it usually ends with one team de-facto leading the development and second team being "monkeys for the dirty work".
About insults every few seconds - go say thanks to Jack Scalici or whoever was the guy repsonsible for "americanizing" Mr. Vavra's script.

We shall see what kind of a new project are 2KGames trying to put together. In my eyes Mafia II project was full of a tremedeous possibilities but in the end the delivery was weak. Still I am willing to give 2KGames a second chance to access my wallet, only this time (after we learnt that melee weapons were never in the game and that all DLC music is for sure present but some "very very rare to hear" songs are kept in an exe file) it will be way harder for the company to persuade me.

Well that looks encouraging, though I still don't understand the logic of laying off very experienced staff & then hire more, many of those that went were involved in both games Mafia they? It's that sort of thing that makes me wonder if the future of Mafia is heading even further from its roots.

Hm interesting indeed, it also says "online programmer" which if applicable to a possible Mafia III I hope to God is a coop feature, I have always wanted one.

I will have no problem getting the game if there will ever be one based on Mafia II, sure it was not as good as the first one but I enjoyed it, and I enjoy it a bit more now as I have some distance to its release.

Afterall, after your post on the troubles that Mafia II went through in its phases of development before release I am actually willing to be quite forgiving, I am happy Mafia II was released at all as it seemed to be quite a bumpy ride.
Of course my hopes will be higher for Mafia III if it is coming, I demand more then Mafia II but will perhaps settle for a bit less then Mafia I as it will be hard to top it anyway.

However next time they better not mislead poor Arch with promises of a city twize the size of "Lost Heaven" when it is not, and if the game will be announced for PC you bet I will be here screaming for wheel and pedal support .

My guess is that after Mafia II's long and troubled development, somebody had to be held "responsible" and of course most responsible for all the cuts and all the false advertising were for sure those guys who worked day (and sometimes night) to get the game running. Typical high business scenario, where cleaning lady is for sure the cause why a multimillion project failed, so let's fire her and everything is going to be OK.

    ArchangelX:
I have it quite reversed. With the distance I feel more and more praise for people who actually worked on Mafia II project (and were mostly fired afterwards) and more and more disgust with 2K PR and 2K management. It is no "holy war, all management is bad", it is simply dissatisfaction with the work of certain people who lied to customers, then tried to lie again, then let customers to help themselves while promising to help, and finally labeled customers as "not very intelligent" just because customers were unhappy being constantly mistreated.

Yes that is correct, I feel the same in regards to the information that we were given on the forums, my comments on the game was mostly just for the personal enjoyment of having another Mafia title hence my respect for the people who work on it and made it happen, when there could have been none, leaving all the PR stuff out of my judgement, if I were to include it then yes I am dissapointed in the way things played out in that sense, and I hope they have learnt if we see a third game.

Yes Rockstar does pay great attention to detail and stays true to the source material.

Remember that Remedy (Alan Wake devs) were the original developers of Max Payne and Rockstar was just the publisher. This time around Rockstar's Canada division did all the development. They did a really good job reinventing Max while staying true to the source material. There are quite a few nice little touches thrown in from the previous games. For example, when the mob boss is talking about losing his son to Max you can hear Rose crying in the background. Rose of course was Max's daughter who you often heard crying in the previous games.

Max Payne 3 wasn't perfect though, the story imo was lacking and this is where Rockstar seems struggle. Aside for Vice City and RDR (was a good story but it did drag a big) they struggle to put together a solid story that keeps you interested. This is where i feel that if they had control of Mafia they would have to bring Daniel Vavra back. No matter who is working on Mafia III, I refuse to purchase another Mafia game without Daniel Vavra involved in the project.

Well as far as I know Vavra has founded his own studio and is involved in making a game at the moment, I am not sure what it is called but I wonder if it is some sort of warlike RPG, at least with certain elements of it.

I wonder what he would feel about being involved in a potential Mafia III, anyway I have no problem in purchasing another Mafia game without his involvement. Mafia I is brilliant but I am sure other can do the job as well and with good results.

    I agree.

I am positive there are writers out there just as qualified to lead and write a good mob story.

My issue is more with 2K (corporate, not the Czech devs) and the way Mafia II fell apart when Vavra left. Mafia II went from potential game of the year to the biggest DLC scam of this generation. Even with Vavra back I have zero faith in these guys and there is nothing they can do to change that.

I hope they drop the IP.

Before setting up his new studio DV was listed as a freelance writer so it's not impossible he could pen another story but very unlikely IMO, given the big layoff of staff there's probably no hope he will come back.

Still very interested in another game but only if it is movie like and not a n other sandbox.

The thread posted by andrashi showed Mafia 2's problems were far more complex than the departure of one man.....

    Regarding Mr. Vávra's new project:
After having some trouble with getting funds without letting the moneygiving company turn the game into mainstream sillines three months before shipping date, Mr. Vávra was finally successful. He is now funded by Mrs. Michaela Bakal, wife of the rather controversial Czech businessman (Mr. Zdeněk Bakala).

However, as Mr. Vávra stated, this was the only investor which was willing to offer some money without trying to change Mr. Vávra's new project into some copy of The Sims just because "The Sims sold XXX copies and made a huge profit". He of course tried other less shady moneygivers, but everyone conditioned the funding by having the decisive rights over the project (Mafia II anoyne?)

The new project is a medieval RPG. Yes, not fantasy RPG, but medieval. Settings are the Czech Kingdom during the Hussite movement. So far it was decided that the project will run on CryEngine 3 and will be developed primarily for the new generation of consoles. Fate of the potential PC version is still unknown.

The game is supposed to stir the nowadays-too-much-calm waters of RPG genre, where Bethesda and their Skyrim bugfest is highly praised. Planned features are believeable architecture and truly advanced AI. Possible features are body hitzones (body is divided into parts, each part has its own HP) and good close combat system (no mad clickfest, but also no endless waiting for the opponent to make a mistake).

P.S.: Mr. Vávra stated several times that his passion for mafia genre burned out and he does not feel sorry for that. He simply "moved to another arc of his life".

Off-topic: I played over 200 hours of Skyrim on a PC and found very, very few bugs. But then again, I also found almost no bugs in Mafia II and JA either. Must of have gotten the bug-free versions.

On-topic: I simply want to Mafia III to be developed for an optimized PC. That would be enough to hope for beyond the content (along it's a linear cinematic experience).

Lol...when did any of us said we hate Rockstar?...And how was Mafia II an insult to you in every few minutes?...all we said is that we didn't want the Mafia series to go on any further like many other games out there. Plus the formula problems as well.

exactly, there are few Rockstar games I haven't bought and enjoyed, RDR was very good although their recent take on Max Payne didn't do much for me, but that doesn't mean I want them to get their hands on Mafia. Nothing to do with hate, I just don't want another game to stray further from its roots which they would inevitably do imo.

Well now I am happy to see some familiar names still loving Mafia II and 2K Czech, but what the hell happened to the forum design since my last visit years ago? This "white on black" is surely an annoying combination for my eyes.

Anyways, to join the discussion: 2K Czech staffing has always been kinda wierd. They fired (or "let go") people in massive scale to hire them back in a year time, commenting on it as if it was a "healthy fluctuation". While this is obviously happening in game dev, firing 40 people is far from being a healthy fluctuation.

I personally think (guessing from what I read and hear) the real problem is in the studio culture and probably the way both 2K Czech studios are being run. You can see a healthy core of old time friends back from Illusion Softworks/Pterodon times who just mostly enjoy working together, but then, there are dozens of guys who may just take the whole thing like "jeez, monday again, wonder what trouble are we having this week" and their chance to survive the terribly long development cycles at 2K Czech are near to none if they are not motvated to stay. Plus, if they leave in the middle of development cycle, they are usually not even credited when the game finally releases, so they have pretty much nothing but frustration.

Then you can see developers leave angry and create new studios like Vatra, which is, sadly enough, probably facing its last operating days at the moment http://www.gamesindustry.biz/article...e-to-own-vatra

Even more sadly, for these devs, there are only limited employment possibilities in Czech game dev. Some of them surely wont come back to 2K because they hate them so much (or 2K "hated" them so much), some of them may fit in well within Warhorse (Dan Vavras studio) or other studios (Bohemia Interactive is growing kinda big these days), the younger ones may decide to work abroad but finally, many of them will leave the games industry for good because they probably have no other option. And heck, they will probably get paid better for a less challenging (but, then again, even more boring) work in a properly managed company.

My guess is the until this changes, nothing will get better

Surely in a series healthy would = continuity. Unless someone wants the series to be turned into something else and it's easier to remove resistance....

I guess dont need to fire 40 people to do this, only five - project leader, art director, lead designer, gameplay producer and anyone who is in charge of writing

I am excited about Dans' new game and studio. I've played enough of his games to see a pattern of quality in them, and i am sure it will carry over to his new RPG.

As far as m3 goes, i would hope that they can assemble a team around the game that truly has the passion and fortitude that Vavra has. Reading his blogs, and coming to the opinion that it's not just the writer, the entire team from the financial guys down, have to let someone with vision and ideas let them free to create something great. Or more or less stay out of it and let them.

If it is god father 2 will be very bad about 2k Czech because Mafia and god father are tough competitors. Please anyone do not consider about me of course except 2k Czech

help me about it with answer ???

  35. MAX MARIN all the things you said is pure speculation at this point, as we have yet to see an announcement.

    Anyway..

    I enjoyed MAFIA 2, so with that in mind;

    1. Longer story
    2. More interaction
    3. Melee weapons / Pick up objects
    4. Ability to enter buildings / locations (This has been talked about for years, I wanna see it come to fruition.)
    5. Loonger story

Also I expect it to be a completely new story and M2 being over with.

Pretty sure it was always a case of resources, but IF mafia 3 is going to be a next gen game hopefully the constraints of memory etc will be lifted a little. I still think Mafia 3 will be more sandbox if it ever happens, which will rule out any other concerns I have, what I want above anything else is another linear story driven/movie like game.

Max Marin suggests to wait that there is enjoy games until make mafia 3 like gta vice city (1980) or scarface and also new driver game (DRIVER SAN FRANCISCO IN year 2011)

I say lets go old school again and go back to 1920's era, prohibition and rekindle to series similar to Boardwalk empire. I'd hate to see it lose it's nostalgic value and try to too far away from it's roots. Although that worked for the Sopranos anyway.

Reason for making a Mafia 3

I just beat mafia 2 tonight, it was a great game and i never play games, i dont even make accounts to a gamming form but i really hope they make a 3 that continues off of 2. because you never hear a gun shot go off so we dont know if Joe is even dead, (i feel like he is, more then he is not because of the brutalilty of the whole game.) But anyways to make this short. The game was great, whatever they do they do, i just hope its a continuation of Mafia 2 with the same charaters, New York would be nice but ill take whatever they throw at us, remember its their game, their charaters, their story. I just hope they finish it. Hell id pay 70 bucks or whatever for a third. why not? It was a good game.
