Maybe the protagonist just had a bit too much alcohol one night back in college and decided to get a chain tattoo on his wrist and now the symbolism was lost once the hangover hit the next morning.
If any of you haven't read Atlas Shrugged yet I highly recommend it, especially to kill some time between now and the 21st.
I'm in the middle of reading Brave New World right now.
The whole idea of everyone having their own personal drug is definitely an influence on Bioshock.
Wow -I just realized just how much I've neglected to investigate Bioshock. I've been whoring myself to a handful of gameplay videos, just thinking how badass it'll be, until the day I can actually play the game myself in all it's glory.... (That, and I'm moving and gearing up for school, so my playe has been kinda full)
I've missed out it seems.
That's really interesting. I was thinking about the chain on his wrist earlier. I think that you have something with those theories. I just don't understand why a guy in the time period the game is set in would have a tattoo of a chain on his wrist. It has to mean something...it has to.![]()
Blarg, this could mean that the three words that would ruin the game might be: I'm in Hell. That is, the literal hell. You know, like the movies with pinhead and the main character doesn't even realize that they're being tortured?
Ok so just something interesting I noticed with a possible connection to the tattoos...
***Caution: Observation from the DEMO***
"The Great Chain is Guided by Our Hand" is on a banner inside the bathysphere docks....so maybe this has something to do with the tattoo of a chain on each wrist.
And also again--and I'm sorry if this was brought up earlier but I didn't see it--when you first enter the light house. When you spot that wonderful, wonderful banner with the bust of what appears to be Ryan leering over it, you can look up as you walk underneath and see the legend inscribed beneath the statue, but hidden by the banner until that moment--THE GREAT CHAIN. Does it refer to Ryan himself, in a dual role as first a messianic figure ("the Great Chain of Industry binds us") and, perhaps a subtle bit of foreshadowing on the devs' part, a tyrant ("Ryan doesn't own us")? Is Ryan, in some inexplicable way, related to Our Humble Protagonist Jack? Interesting, but also perplexing!
tattoo (p.s. tattoos are awesome)
I have always noticed that Tatoo, it looks like a Chain.
The chain tattoos represent a link...
or a reference to link from zelda.
I'm actually lying, it will probably be explained in the game.
So now when i finished a game i have kind of idea what this tattoo is but don't know if im right.
SPOILER AHEAD:
Our hero was raised in Rapture and tattoo represent The Great Chain and affiliation to Ryan and the city.
What do you guys think? Is it right?
The tattoo is a chain, and is mirrored on the players right wrist as well.
If you payed attention through the game, its actually pretty simple what the chain is. Our man(forget his name, sorry) is being controlled by Fontain, and the tattoo on his arm is of a chain. Aside from being pure vanity,(as it appears at first), it represents Fontains hold on you,his abbility to controll you,and how you are basicly "chained to him" as a slave.
It also represents the human DNA chain, which plasmids & adam and eve, have interfered with to produce the effects we see in the game. Its a subtle yet distinct plot "clue" to those of a sharp mind that the character has already been to Rapture before, and is not just a hapless tourist that crashed in the sea.
Stole my idea! Mine's going to be permanent though.
I know, I wish mine would be permanent, cant believe I like a tattoo off a game, that'll teach me next time to copyright game![]()
I looked over Andrew Ryans body for as long as my life bar permited but there was no tattoo of a chain visible on him... his sleeves are long though... Anyway we all know the tattoo on Jack's wrists are related to the "chain of industry" phrase by Ryan.
Looks like a link of chains to me...
jesus christ talk about thread necromancy, i havent seen it let alone any posts by Rapture Tourist in months.
