Father and child: Bioshock 2 plot twist theory

One thing we are all expecting from BS2 is obviously the plot twist that suddenly changes how you view your character and those around him and would most likely change where you stand in the conflict.

Obviously the whole "turns out you're evil" twist has been done already.

My theory is simply this; at some point either just before or after you defeat the Big Sister you learn that she is in fact your daughter. Let me elaborate. Many of Rapture's families were heart-broken by the taking of their daughters for use in the Little Sister program. During this time you were the father of one of these girls that was taken away. Instead of falling into despair and suicide (the Lutz family) your character decided to take a more active approach into finding out what happened to his daughter. Hearing something about a program called fail-safe armored escorts and how it is somehow connected to the Little Sister program he decides to volunteer. You have no idea that being a volunteer means that you'll be turned into a mindless monster. During the transformation process all your memories of your life are wiped clean.

Before the eventual reveal there would be the same kind of foreboding messages of this truth like those in Bioshock 1 (ghosts in Eve's Apple, Audio diaries, Ryan's subtle hints). The kinds of hints that would seem unrelated, just another story of everyday people in Rapture and only after playing through the second time would you see the clues fit into place. Finding audio diaries of yourself talking about your progress in your search for your daughter; before the reveal this would mean nothing to you, just another tragic story of the poeple of Rapture.

eh it's not a bad idea, but it conflicts with the plot of the first bioshock.

True. I honestly just wonder how far off we all are....or if someone really has come close.

He means the BD you play in BS2 is the father not Jack.

I think this twist is definitely possible. I know Thuran and I were discussing it last week in another thread.

More recently, I added the notion that you might even be Big Sister's mother. That would be a double twist. We assume "Big Daddy" has to be a male, but prototypes can vary quite a bit from the final product..... heh, heh

you seem to have misunderstood me. the man you were before becoming a Big Daddy would have been another random citizen of Rapture NOT JACK. i never said that

don't try to figure it out, if by some small chance, u actually do figure it out, then the whole game won't be as much fun. it's like peaking at ur christmas presents, u get a small rush, but then on christmas day, it's not as special

Hrrm...sees plausible. I would think that the Big Daddy didn't have daughter, he would probably be some lowly adam addicted guy, or maybe some unfortunate soul who torked Ryan or Suchong off.

I like it, but I sincerely hope this is not the twist. I also hope Fontaine and Ryan are dead, they need to be dead.

Well how would he know that it had a link to the Little Sister project ?
You play as the FIRST Big daddy, which doesn't have a Little Sister. So it's safe to assume he was made then they began making others with the protection bond to the LS's ?

Interesting. A more personal connection like that could really ramp up the drama. If it does work out as a parent vs. child kinda deal, here's how it might be set up. It's the beginning of the end in Rapture, after the New Year's attack, but before Ryan started taking the girls to "save the city".
Your character has a family that inlcudes a young daughter, and with the town swiftly going to Hell caring for them has become very hard. Desperate you volunteer for Dr. Suchong's "Protector Program", but you get much more than you bargained for. Despite the radical changes you retain enough humanity to escape Rapture to parts unknown outside, where the scientists lose track of you. Shortly after your escape, your daughter is taken and turned into a LS; during your return to Rapture in BS2 you slowly learn the truth, which makes for one awkward family reunion.

The LS program began long before the Fail-Safe Armored Escorts program was started by Suchong and when it was made its whole purpose was to protect the Little Sisters

Personally, I find this to be a horrible direction to take the story.

i dont see how this can ruin it. its speculation, not spoilers. its not the same as peeking at your christmas presents its more like guessing what they are going to be

I think the BS being your daughter is a neat idea but easily thought of.
Meaning it wouldn't be so much of a shocker.
Maybe they could through in this idea then through in a bigger twist.
