i loved the psx. the ps2 was ok some good games but not as many as the psx.
I want to play re5 and mgs4. My pc probably wont be up to spec for bioshock 2 so that as well.

Personally, I'm more of a 360 fan...it's controller is much better for FPS...
two words-- blu ray
thats the only reason i would personally buy a ps3--
i have a 73 inch mitsubishi dlp and the lack of awesomeness i attain while watchin movies is a bummer with a 360
If you want one and can afford it.. I think if your old enough to spend the money your old enough to make the decision.
a PS3 is a great system. with bluray, free online, internet browser and awesome exclusive's like resistance, killzone 2, little big planet, mgs4 and the dlc for bioshock. the PS3 wont disapoint![]()
Sorry, but the PS3 will disappoint, big time. I had both the systems, PS3 and 360, and I sold the PS3 for the simple reason that I wasn't playing it. Sure, it has Blu-Ray, but we're talking about the PS3 as a games console here. If you thought the PS2 was lacking in games compared to the PSX, then get ready for a shock, becasue the PS3 has ten times less exclusives and triple A titles than the PS2 ever did.
It does have free online, but the online is considerably worse than the 360's. Live has tremendous online support. If there's a bug, it'll be patched. If there's a cheater, he'll be banned. The setup is also a lot more straightforward, plus the 360's interface as a whole, especially with the NXE, is a lot more fluid and easy to access. The online games trump the PS3's by far, with a massive variety; Halo 3 and Gears Of War 2 being the prime examples of incredibly fun online games.
The games is where the PS3 really falls short. The exclusives never have, and never will match up to Microsoft's buying power, highlighted by Microsoft's recent shelling out of $50M for exclusive GTAIV content, the 3 exclusive installments of DLC for Fallout 3, and 360's recent acquisition of the once-PS3 exclusive FFXIII. I know, I know, you'll say that the PS3 has Uncharted, Resistance, Killzone, LBP, but, truth be told, these are mediocre, overhyped titles, and if they were to be released on the 360 they would be almost disregarded. Just look at: Gears Of War/2, Halo 3/Recon, Dead Rising/2, Left4Dead, Alan Wake, Mass Effect 2, Fable 2, Forza 2/3, Ninja Gaiden II, Crackdown/2, Team ICO's new project... As far as games on this level go, Sony has God Of War III, MGS , and... That's it.
Up to you.
one or two of those 360 titles are overhyped and mediocre but i wont say wich ones![]()
you are a 360 fan boy, you just called a Kill zone and other Ps3 exclusive a mid core game lol, then given the credit to halo and etc... I am not here to argue and I respect your personal opinion and please you just starting a console war which I think we are grown up and should respect each others console. In my opinion I like the PS3 if you can afford to buy it then do it if not and you have less money 360 will do. comparing both console or trying to get the best will not get you any where since both are the same it really depends on which console's exclusive you like to play.
if you want R1 and 2, kill Zone 2, LBP, Uncharted 1,2(coming 09), GOW3, NGS 1 and second one is coming soon too, MStorm, VC, and etc will you need a PS3.
but If you want GOW 1 and 2, Fable 2 then you go with 360 and most important some of the multi-platform games run better on 360 or time exclusive. as of halo Personal opinion only the first one was good and the others are ok call of duty and kill zone 2 are the proof.
Wow, the height of hypocrisy. I'm not being a fanboy. I owned both consoles for a period of time, and I am just expressing my views that the PS3 isn't worth it's price tag. Why should the OP pay more for an inferior console? Killzone 2, much like the original, was a mediocre game compared to the immense hype surrounding it's release. You're worse than me when it comes to starting "console wars".
Gentlemen,
I've been up all night. I'm way too tired to even lift my BANHAMMER. Much less swing it at anybody right now.
You all know this console war stuff is not welcome here. The OP asked about the PS3. I didn't hear a request for a comparison to the 360. Bioshokk--most of your post was reasonable, but your complete dismissal of the best the PS3 has to offer as "mediocre" games showed your true colors. Let's just let it go please.
Thanks.
When did i say that?was just pointing out that some 360 games are also way too overhyped and mediocre, I mean personally i would rather build a new PC than buy any console (just personal preference, actually i would buy both the PS3 and 360 if i had the money
), but in the end OP'er it is up to you to research the merits of the PS3 yourself it IS a good system but in the end trying to get an unbiased opinion on a forum for a console is like trying to breathe in space wearing only your birthday suit.
Never mind...
.........No.
I basically got my PS3 for free when I bought my TV. Unless you get a really good deal on it, I would wait a while. If you find you have a great TV and no blue ray player, I would buy it. The blue ray alone is comparable to the market and better than most..... plus you get a gaming console. I use the blue ray, but barely play games on it. The graphics are comparable to the 360 that I have, for games that have already come out. I am interested to see if its better for BS2. Other than that, save your money, buy a used 360.
If you can afford and IF you want it , go ahead and buy one, there's good games at least that's up to you not up to other people thoughts, i mean if you liked some PS2 exclusive and you want to play them on PS3, then you need to buy one, i have it and so far i'm good with it, i also have a 360 i like both systems
um... bioshokk. dead rising 2, mass effect 2, crackdown 2 and ninja gaiden 3 are coming to PS3
and games like resistance 2, killzone 2, little big planet have been getting good reviews lately. i dont want to sound like a PS3 fanboy, i own both consoles, but im just defending the PS3 here..![]()

Not being a fanboy here, just pointing out some facts:
Mass Effect 2 exclusive to 360: http://www.videogamer.com/news/confi...ot_on_ps3.html
Dead Rising 2, yes, apparently, is on PS3.
I was just speculating about Crackdown, it hasn't been announced.
And I never mentioned anything about NG3.
...
....
Why the capitals?
I see...
Yes, I see it now.

I can definitely agree with the price tag but not the rest and again I totally reaccept your opinion and you can see it in my post why PO needs to get a PS3 but again thats up to him. And others mentioned the good thing about this forums is we talk about game and we never want a console war so I don't see any point of you just completely rejecting the console. lol
any one has new info on Bioshock 2??
Bio, if you're generalising facts about the playstation 3, I just want to say that your views on the playstation 3 and its games are misleading. The games you mentioned aren't mediocre. They're actually quality games. Killzone 2 is not mediocre. It got good reviews and high scores. Who are you to say the game was overhyped? Halo 3 was even more overhyped and it brung nothing but disappointment to fans compared unlike halo 1 and 2.
The playstation 3 isn't actually inferior. It's superior to the xbox 360 because of bluray and the cell processor. Even microsoft admitted that the system was more powerful. What the console is able to deliver justifies its price. That's why it's expensive.
And you're right about the system has lost many of its exclusives (final fantasy XIII, tekken 6), but if you at least have the common sense to know that those games will utilize the playstation 3's capabilities then get downgraded to fit the specs of the xbox 360, you will know that the playstation 3 is worth the purchase if you want to get the best possible experience of gaming. The xbox 360 is still a good system, but I don't think it's worth buying the xbox 360 ports because the system has limitations.
Also, your claim about playstation network being much worse than xbox live is not true. Both services are almost on par. The only thing that makes xbox live slightly better is that it has more content and has cross game chat. Sony can change that but I don't know why they're not doing anything to it.
Just because you use to have the playstation 3 doesn't mean you're correct about it.
Anyways, my advice to the op, if there are games that you want to play that are only available on that system, then yes you should buy a playstation 3. Even if it's one game, the console is still worth the purchase. Your games collection will increase overtime.

I enjoy the PS3, it's totally up to you man i like the ps3 because I like the contoller it's basic, the blu ray and the free playstation network hey it's free.
and the design of the station isn't to bad.
More powerful does not, by any stretch of the imagination, mean a better console. Just take a look at The Orange Box. Released parallel to the 360 version, yet the PS3 version was panned because it was riddled with bugs. Yes, the PS3 innards may be more advanced, but developers have said time and again that they find it hard to develop for, and would much rather develop for the 360.
But as long as you PS3 owners are content, that's all that matters.![]()

I never said that its capabilities makes it a better console. I was just correcting you when you called it an inferior system.
And yes, you're right that developers find the playstation 3 harder to work with.
As far as former sony exclusive games are concerned, I wouldn't recommend anyone buying them for their xbox 360. You're better off with the playstation 3 versions as you will get the most out of them on that particular console than you do on the xbox 360. It's like playing dead rising on the wii. Everyone deserves better.

No, I wasn't just opinionising it.
Many xbox 360 owners prefer the xbox 360 versions of multiplatform games because they look better on that particuliar system. A majority of multiplatform games were made on the xbox 360 then gets ported to the playstation 3 (resident evil 5, farcry 2, skate 2, etc). Because they're ports, they don't look as good on the playstation 3. In liklihood, ports aren't that good, with the exception of bioshock.
If it's the other way round, because the xbox 360 is an inferior console it can't handle the technology that ps3 made games use (graphics, physics, scale, processing, etc) and the only way to successfully port them is to downgrade them (think dead rising on wii).
If the xbox 360 was my only console and former sony exclusive games (like final fantasy XIII, tekken 6) gets ported to the xbox 360 , I wouldn't buy them. I would consider buying a playstation 3 instead to play those games. No matter what, I refuse to buy them for the xbox 360, because I deserve better.

"Ports aren't that good", "Many Xbox 360 owners", "inferior console", "successfully", "I wouldn't buy", "I would consider", "I refuse".
Please stop trying to make people believe these "facts" of yours. Opinion is all it is. If you were a 360 owner, you'd be agreeing with me.
The majority of multiplatform games look better on the 360, because they were developed for 360, because PS3 hardware is convoluted, superfluous and hard to develop for. This won't change, and that is all the OP needs to know. And woop-de-do, you have fancy processor. Shame it'll never get a run for it's money, because Microsoft will continue to lap up the exclusives.
Can we please keep console wars off the forums. Japester has already made that clear
The last paragraph was to make a point.
The majority of multiplatform games look better on the 360, because they were developed for 360, because PS3 hardware is convoluted, superfluous and hard to develop for.
Ports don't look good on the playstation 3 because developers don't spend the time perfecting them, you can call it "laziness". It's harder to develop because sony purposely made it so.
and that is all the OP needs to know
No, what the op was asking was whether he should get a playstation 3 because of the games he mentioned. And I said yes if he wants to play them.
Microsoft will continue to lap up the exclusives
Sony lost exclusives because the games costed a lot to develop. For example games like soul calibur IV, devil may cry 4, and others. This is understandable.
Let me ask you this, if square enix cancelled the xbox 360 port of final fantasy XIII (I know it won't happen but still) and the playstation 3 was the only platform to play the game, what are you going to do about it? Or if final fantasy versus XIII turns out to be the better game and you want it (which I'm quite sure you will), what do you have to do to play the game?
Anyways, back on topic.

this thread has been completely highjacked so il try n steer it back on course![]()
personally i would say yes, if u have the money, buy a ps3
it has a wide variety of games from FPS's to games for all the family
xbox does have a lot of exclusives and most of them imo are AMAZING!!!
however if i was to choose between the 2 consles id personally go for the ps3
i do own both and play each as much as the other
i prefer the ps3 however because it has games more suited to my tastes and more of my friends own them than 360's![]()
If there was a choice for me (I'm very PC centric) between an XBox 360 or a PS3 for my situation apples-to-apples I'd probably go with a PS3 for one feature the 360 does not offer: Linux. Add a USB keyboard and mouse install the Sony provided Linux distribution and you just bought yourself a very cheap supercomputer. Hook it up to a good computer-monitor and you're set to go. Browsers, programming tools, a complete repository or with the Openness of GNU land, the ability to compile pretty well anything against whatever computer-architecture you tend to have in front of you! Drool. But thats just me - Linux isn't Windows (I do have a Linux VM I program within so I'm used to it) and if Operating Systems are a mystery to you the PS3 Linux might also remain such a mystery so its not for everyone. But for me Linux flops the switch over to PS3 while at the same time I am very adamant about maintaining my PC Platform. My PC is not too shabby and four years ago it was a supercomputer too. I could emulate probably 50 Commodore 64s cycle-exact with this rig at the transistor-level (100% compatible) within real-time processing constraints without even getting into the three billion (!) bytes of memory available in my paultry 32-bit mode (but with a 64-bit processor!)!
So it comes down to this: which one is better for you -> PC, PS3, 360? What is going to be the "experience" Microsoft and Apple tend to harp-with? How will it make things better?

After reading all the comments and seeing some "fanboyism", I'll toss my 2 cents in for what it's worth.
I have owned both the XBOX 360 and the PS3 (still own the PS3).
They both look about the same in terms of graphics.
They both have almost the same games minus a few exclusives on each.
Personally, I liked Gears of War 1, but Gears of War 2 was the worst pile of garbage I've played in a long time and so was Halo 3. On the converse, Killzone 2 was complete trash just like the first one. I prefer the PS3 for MGS4, Little Big Planet and the upcoming God of War 3. Also, I love BluRay on my plasma, the backwards compatibility of most of my PS2 and PSX library, and the ease of swapping out my 80gb drive for a 500gb laptop drive that only costs $100 versus Microsofts overpriced 120gb drive. I also like that the online gaming is free and I haven't experienced any other game, but SOCOM with lag (although the game sucked anyhow). I also like the built in wireless, and the bluetooth headset (which you can use most cellphone bluetooth headsets). I also see less annoying kids online on the PS3 thankfully. I loved my XBOX 360 when I had it until I tried the PS3 and saw how much more it appealed to me versus the way Microsoft tries to screw you out of every penny in upgrades.
For whoever said there weren't many games for the PS2, sir you are clueless. There were a ton of games for the PS2 and they are still producing some.
If you decide to buy a PS3, buy the 20gb one used online on Ebay and just swap the drive out for a 500gb laptop SATA for $100 on pricewatch.com

I think this thread is off topic and OP should close it and people who think that 360 is the best console ever you just dont own a PS3 and you cant buy it so here are some of the games Rith in the face of 360 owners with more Halo trash games and no other exclusive,
Resistance 1& 2 (9.5) all websites gave it high score
Kill Zone 2 same above
LBP
MGS4
GOW3
Bioshock DLC
Uncharted much better then Gear.
R&C
VC
.......
now I dont hate 360 but all it has for is gears after that nothing. now all 360 has is good Gears for others Fable 2 score 8 and Halo wars scored 6.5.
"""mid core RPG games that no one even cared"""
but all that said some people might disagree and loved the games that I hated on 360 so both consoles are great in the eyes of their owner.
look at all PS3 exclusive titles not possible in 360 but 360 titles can run on Ps3 but who really cares just play your games and stop console war each of us have different opinion and I think PS3 is must have 360 in other not really.![]()
