    Possible old concept?

Hello all. I found a wallpaper for Bioshock that is reminiscent of the old splicer designs found in Breaking the Mold. To put it in a nutshell, it scared me. Here is what the wallpaper looks like

If they plan on making Bioshock 2 a scarier game, I would definitely include at least a scant bit of these sorts of creatures. Blech...freaky stuff.

Likeable? It scared the living sh*t out of me just looking at it! Definitely freaky to put in a game though.

Not the worst thing I've seen. And yes, likable. Especially the way you can still see like the human head in the bug ^^
But it would be something cool to put in the game. Be a great part of the freaky deaky stuff that went on down in Rapture.

I'd think it'd be a great mini boss or boss, not sure how awesome swarms of them would seem. I'd recon not many splicers would go to that extent, would make for a fun freaky fight though.

Agreed. But have a few similar others. *shivers* Some of the concept art in "Breaking the Mold" gave me the chills. Should implement a few of em.

I dunno. Atlas/Fontaine went pretty far with his adam doses and look at his splicing.
I wouldn't say they'd not go that far. I would just say they'd have to be Atlas crazy or beyond to do so.

See, but Fontaine hadn't had the long-term effects hit him. Look at him, perfect face, perfect muscle structure, everything. Look at a thuggish splicer. Face, mutilated. Body, distorted. And guaranteed Fontaine had more ADAM in him than anyone in Rapture. Since he had all the ADAM he had obtained over the years, (which was A LOT), had he not been destroyed, he would have become more of a horror than the normal splicer.

What I meant was at the very end of it with the huge muscles and black body and stuff (i'm color blind to the difference between dark blues and blacks so correct me if i'm worng)

That was pretty intense for an adam splicing.

Pretty intense, yeah, but if that were true, then wouldn't all splicers be big, bulky, and not-mutilated? ADAM is a sort of...destructive agent that works over time. I mean, Jack wasn't immediately turned into what a splicer looks like after he inserted the needle with Electrobolt in it. If Fontaine had lived, the ADAM would have deformed him to the point of a monster. Who knows what he could have looked like?

That wallpaper is when BS was going to take place in a top secret Natzi laboratory on a remote island somewhere in the middle of the ocean. Testing would go horribly wrong and people would start to mutate etc. The enviroment was also almost entirely industrial as well. The direction was later changed because the storyline didnt really make much sense. All the bug and mutated like enemys were changed to spliced up humans and the enviroment was changed to Art Deco.

The little sisters were originally just a slug that when threatened would chirp and start glowing, a dog like creature attached to a wheel chair would come pick the slug up in its mouth and take it to safety as a large enemy (possibly a protector) would engage you.

The slug did not have an emotional connection with the player so 2K looked for alternatives. Rob Waters sketched a picture of a goulish girl in a torn dress with huge bags under her eyes. Players would be able to relate to a child and 2K knew that was the right direction to go with the gatherers. LS's at one point had health and you could kill them, but in early play tests people killed the girls not even knowing they were supposed to gather resources from them, the game was changed to make them invulnerable to attacks.

Ah...Yeah, when I was looking through the artbook at all the old LS concepts, like the slug and the chipmunk, I thought "Nobody would really think about the decision." Makes much more sense now, thanks root

I was so happy that they changed directions when I saw the old concept images. A chipmunk with a backpack and needle makes no sense in any context, but the rest of it was scifi garbage. It looked like every scifi horror game ever made all over again. I was very pleased that Bioshock went for something different.

If not for that change in direction Bioshock wouldn't have achieved it's success. We don't need another science monster game.

Some of the old concept art for the splicers are definitely nightmare fuel. If you're looking to boost the scare meter in the next game you don't have to look much farther than these horrors.

Agreed. But some of these monstrosities would definitely make for some freaky enemies in a different game.

That would be a friggin' sick game! Scary though. But hey, I recently downloaded the FEAR 2 demo, and realized how good it feels to be scared.

Yup, FEAR 2 is definitely a very scary game. I have watched videos of grown men screaming out loud at certain parts in it.

Definitely. The old Big Daddies and new Big Daddy concepts should definitely get some of the limelight in BS2.

Haha, yeah. Big Daddies, to me, were one of the most interesting things in the game for me.

Yes, I've been just as interested in the big daddies as I was the Little Sisters.
We need to spread some BD love, instead of VDs. Then the world would be a little safer.

That is totally surreal and i am somewhat glad 2K did the changes, i mean i doubt a person could get emotionally connected to something like that as apposed to a Little Sister of a Big Daddy.
