The inevitable media beatup - Won't somebody think of the children!

I wonder just what kind of controversy the tabloid newspapers will generate when Bioshock hits the streets?

What made me think of it was the little sister quote "Get up Mister Bubbles".
Now in most countries that if a pretty innocent comment.
In Australia there was a notorious child offender called "Mr Bubbles", and it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to see some uneducated article in The Sunday Sun linking the two and causing a storm in a teacup.

Likewise you can see the safety-nanny-parental groups up in arms about a game that encourages you to inject stuff straight into your veins.

What's your thoughts? Do you think it wont happen? Will it be worse than the "Hot Coffee" fury? Or will certain groups boycott the game, or get it re-classified/banned in some countries?

If it was gonna happen, it would've happened already. Bully took crap from the media MONTHS before it ever came out, even months before the first details were confirmed.

I think this game could get the God of War golden pass - GoW was far more sexually explicit than Hot Coffee, but inexplicably the press completely passed over it. Not sure how or why, but they got a magic Get Out of Jail Free card. Since I haven't heard a peep about Bioshock from the mainstream media, I think it's going to be spared as well.

I was thinking the same. But, they usually play it before a ruling. After they find how damn hard it is to kill one of them, they'll probably won't think too bad about it.

If anything would happen, like other people said above me, it would have happened already, and it would have happened in huge doses. BioShock is going to be wildly popular with the amount of hype it's gained, the media would have certainly picked it up by now and ran with it if there was anything worth running for.

I think that the major problem isn't so much that there are a bunch of idiots who freak out about violence in the media but rather that these loonies are continually taken seriously.

Yeah, but I'd feel kinda good though. It'd be like taking down Godzilla.

you probably won't get any controversy about the mr bubbles thing but like the killing little sisters and the plasmids might attract a little bit

It is not a major election year in the US, so doubtful the media here will notice it much. Im sure a few news outlets will carry the story a couple times, but without the windbags preaching in front of the camera, it will fade quickly

I'm picturing a circle of withered old hags in recliners, knitting pink covers for everything they own, bickering about this violent new-fangled electric game on the tele-box their grandchilden are playing. Other than these few harsh words, carried on fetid breath, I doubt we will have much backlash rubbish to deal with.

As far as uproars go, I too think we would have seen it already if it was going to start. Im convinced those people paw through scraps of info from upcoming games to find something to moan about. A lot of the complaints we will see after launch will be from those people who are unplugged from this kind of digital media and have not yet heard of this game. Most of these people most likely wont have the voice to be heard by the public, but im betting some of them will... but it'll fade pretty quick.

But yeah, even if we dont hear it, somethings going to be said about that Bubbles thing. Probably by the aforementioned circle of crones.
