Thread: stuttering and 182.06 drivers

    stuttering and 182.06 drivers

Bioshock stutters pretty badly on the new nvidia drivers 182.06.

Combine that with the cutting out audio and it's a bit of a mess to be honest.

Damn nvidia, bioshock used to run quite smoothly when it was released.

It stutters really bad for me too. I thought it was a problem with my system since nvidia states that there is a 13% performance increase in BioShock with the new drivers. I went back to the 178.24 drivers and it's running silky smooth again.

And here I thought it was only me. I was playing it again last night several months after I had first finished it. I remembered how great it performed, so when I started getting real bad stuttering problems, I thought my graphics card was messed-up. For the record, I was using version 182.08, so apparently nVidia still hasn't fixed the problem. Hopefully they'll fix it on their next driver release, or 2K can make a new patch. I'll roll back though to 178.24 and see if that fixes it.

It's funny, F.E.A.R. 2 runs just great but now BioShock runs like ****. Jeez.

EDIT: Yep. Going back to 178.24 improved performance substantially. I wonder why? Maybe there's something you can tweak in nVidia's control panel?

havent had any problems for me.

as for the performance gains, those gains only work at max res at max settings as stated in the notes not in general tho its possible i guess.

Yup I had the same with 182.06 / 182.08. I've gone back to 178.24 as well.

I've tried fiddling with all the different graphics settings and disabling as many of the background programs that I can (which isn't many) including antivirus. No change. I can only guess nVidia didn't properly optimize these drivers for BioShock and I'm hoping they'll correct it on their next release. I've already brought it to their attention on their own forums. Whether they'll do anything about it is another matter, though.

Maybe you don't have any problems because of your hardware configuration or the OS you're using. Here's what I've got:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad QX6600 2.4 Ghz
    Motherboard: Asus P5W DH Deluxe
Video Card: BFG Tech nVidia 8800 GTS
Sound Card: Creative Labs Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
    System RAM: Corsair 2 GB
OS: Windows XP w/ Service Pack 3

    Yep, exact same thing here.

Thought it was my gfx card messing up.

Went back to 178.24 and it works fine.

nvidia need to sort this out =/.

I get stuttering in left 4 dead now and no performance increase, either I get that or trying to play bioshock with 10 fps -.-

Same problem here too. I have Intel Core 2 Quad 2.6 GHz CPU, 2 GB RAM and nVidia GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512 MB plus with 185.68 drivers on Windows XP - SP3 and game is stuttering like hell. I tried 182.50 but it is bad too, I will try older drivers like you did. Damn nVidia.
