He is a mad artist in Rapture.

Here is a hint about him (after "Spoiler (Story - a NPC and player choice)"): http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/sho...p?t=202&page=3

    something like that

    FUN FACT!
Did you know that Cohen was a name associated with a certain DNA signature called Cohen Modal Haplotype?!?!?!

Maybe you are a spy for the Soviet government. With the Cold War happening, and if knowledge of the underwater capitalist utopia reached the Kremlin, mayhaps they decided to send an infiltrator posing under good intentions. Then things went horribly wrong with the plane crash, and the agent you play has to morally decide for themselves if they will follow motherlands orders or make their own conscious decisions.

Maybe you're a sleeper cell (with or without conscious knowledge of the fact), and are activated somehow, part way through the game. (it would make a change to the usual 'loss of memory' plot dynamic)

It would make an interesting story, but I like the idea of just being some guy that happened to stumble into the place. It's more accessible that way.

Sleeper cell, good call But we're going off on a tangent here with player background speculation. The player appears to be a shell designed to let the player assume the role for themselves, be it male or female. Mayhaps there is a major KOTOR-like twist to the players role later on in the Rapture journey, but I wouldn't bet on it.

uhh... im not sure if you guys know this

But you are in Rapture because your plane crashes, you are the sole survivor. Beliving that these are your last few moments you see a menacing light house in the distance. Figuring you have nothing else to lose (your life ) you make a swim for it. Upon finding it empty you try the bathysphere (underwater elevator). Decending it (starting NOW I am making this up) all of a sudden you see a beautifle city under water! And then you meet up with the locals, become best of friends, and live happily ever after!

    THE END

Sorry, I got a bit carried away. The point is (if that is true) it seems as if you are innocent enough when first venturing down there. I doubt that you are a spy, just a normal citizen visiting faimily across seas.

heh... if it was someone in school... and they have to write a What I Did During My Summer Vacation report... well...

Whenever there's a choice (from as far back as Ant Attack in fact) I've always played as a female, although in recent years (since I got really fat and subsequently started lifting weights) I've been playing as a guy. I'd like to have the option to play as a female in BioShock. I'm wondering about Fable 2— you can be female and become pregnant but I think that would mean conjugation with a male, which I wouldn't be too comfortable with (maybe I should log onto Lionhead's forum and suggest they implement some kind of artificial insemination process).

The premise for arrival to Rapture is quite generic and does not discount the possibility of really any characterization that can be revealed about the player. Being a survivor of a plane crash does not subtract literally any background the player could have.

I agree with you that the player probably is just a normal citizen visiting family across seas, but to equate surviving a plane crash to innocence is ridiculous.

That kind of thing can be used pretty effectively as a form of misdirection, if you wanted to add a twist to a story. It's not that surprising that some people will make that assumption.
