    replayability

In general do you replay a game once its beaten? why or why not

myself, If i beat a game i really have a horrible time picking it back up even if i know there are alternate endings, I made the sad mistake of beating okami and oddworld munchs oddyssee, and as great of games as those are i just can't pick them up again, and i'm really trying on okami too

if i dont beat a game i'll replay it and replay it to no end, hence why xmen legends the original one still ranks as my absolute favorite game as of yet

i know its odd but i really cant help it

I can always pick up a game again. I stopped playing Okami around late april, or so, due to beating it.
So after playing Shadow of the Collosus, and therefore, getting bored, I wondered what Okami would be like this time.
Needless to say, about 4-5 hours went by without me noticing. Lately that's all i have been playing, and it is a golden game, even for replay value.

Funny you mention that, i just started a warrior today, its fun but different without ranged attacks. A good Game is like a book, if it was fun the first time it will be the second or third. So says me

It entirely depends on the game.

Max Payne II was quite short with a dramatically different ending if you completed it a 3rd time: Mona survived

RPGs are usually interesting to replay as different character classes, although I had no great urge to restart Fable or Oblivion.

Games with branching plotlines like Deus Ex can offer completely new experiences when replayed. KotOR's high replayability resulted from both branching plotlines, RPG factor, team composition, as well as the whole Light vs Dark side paths.

I didn't used to play games more than once. That has changed recently. Now if I have a game that I really enjoy, after I beat it I will go back and play it a few more times.

The big problem with me is if I start playing a game and stop about half way through, I have a terribly hard time picking it up again.

That pretty much describes me. I might play a bit more but once I've finished it that's it. I did start playing good ol' Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 again a while ago though(after less than a year after first playing/beating it). I think I kinda stopped at about half way through.

I replay about every... 3rd to 4th game I play.
Some games I replay over and over again. FEAR for example. Oblivion... Can't say that I'm actually RE-playing it, as I've not finished it with any of the characters I've played. But I'm playing it on and off again. Colossus too. RE4 as well.
What's really bad is games I don't even finish once. Metroid Prime being a prime (haha) example. Never finished any of the two as I got stuck at some boss and got terminally frustrated.

most of the games i played so far, i´ve played over and over again, for example hl2 or max payne 2, because there´s just soo much to see and to explore. you play through a game once but you can never check out everything,
when you just play it one time.

Well, depends on the game. If it's short, but I like it, I'll replay it several times (i.e. SoTC). Otherwise, I don't normally replay games unless I really, really like them (i.e. Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy Tactics, Diablo II).

To me it depends on how enticing the game is, and different the second time. For example, when I bought KotOR I went in thinking, "I'll complete Dark Side, and then go fully Light Side." Thing is, when I completed the Dark Side run-through I didn't feel the need to go back and play Light; there just wasn't enough to entice me. If there was achievements, maybe, because I probably wouldn't have played through Overlord a second time if I wasn't planning on going full Corrupt. So a lot of things go through my mind for if I decide to replay something.

I've replayed multiple games. I've played thru Jade Empire for PC 3 times since it was released earlier this year. Since System Shock 2 was released back in 1999 I've been playing thru it lots of times too. And I've replayed Defender of the Crown from 1986 more times than I can count

That said, it really depends on the game.

Last weekend I finished Zelda: Twilight Princess and later figured I should spend more time with it to collect all the heart pieces and stuff, but I really can't. I find that collecting phase to be really boring and pointless now as I already finished the game.

Sometimes I keep thinking about how I should replay a certain game, such as the excellent Shadow Of The Colossus, and really look forward to it. But as soon as I sit down with it, I'm bored and can't play it anymore. Cause I already played it. Weird how the first time thru the game can be so utterly awesome, only to later be a meh.

I expect Bioshock to be a game I can play thru multiple times, just like with System Shock, Thief and Deus Ex.

Once I had a game that had an alternate ending, and I was looking forward to the game before it came out, so I wanted to see the alternate ending, right? I tried making a new file, but the game was too freaky to play through again. That is the only time that has ever happened to me, with a game, a book, or a movie. I'm a huge fan of the horror genre, I've played almost every horror game since the original Silent Hill, but the one game I couldn't play through a second time was Condemned: Criminal Origins.

Seriously??? I mean the game was sorta freaky....well very freaky, but it wasn't that bad. The only part i would not wish to play again was the department store...wax figurines always gave me the heeby jeebies, not very helpful that they are walking around hitting me with pipes...

didn't know it was a question, what's the point of buying a game if you're only going to go through it once?!

ok, owning a game is better than renting a game, and i'm not the only gamer in the house so i dont buy just for me, plus bargain games are for the win

Yeah, that's the only horror game, movie, or book I could never go through again.

when a game offers multiple endings, I generally try to see them all. But it all depends on the whole game experience - if it's no fun to play through the second time and the game does not allow you to try/experience different things, then it's not really worth it.

Jade Empire was great - playing first "open palm", then "closed fist" - even the subquests were interesting the second time through.

Just beating the game on a hight difficulty level that doesn't otherwise offer an improved/different experience is not my cake. Fatal Frame 2 (and other games) expect this from the players, they show you a different ending/last boss battle, but up until that point, it's the same experience.

    looking forward to BioShock
