Maybe I'm stopping playing this game

Well, it's not because I'm not loving it, but really, in these last few days I couldn't find games (yesterday nobody, today only one game where they didn't start). The only times I could play it, I got disconnected (once) and I lost against lucky zulu rushers (and noobs I would say). I hate also that a noob player (I won't call the name) that doesn't know how to play became almost top5 in every leaderboard in less than one week (getting like 900 points in few days in FFA), same on h2h. Maybe, it's because I think I should be there, maybe it's because I think he doesn't know how to play (he only build 2-3 cities, few defences, and count on luck). Now, I would like to complete my record (would like to be like first on every leaderboard) but it seems the game, or anything else is blocking me.. In case I won't play anymore this game, see you, and good luck..

I would like to play you again. However today I tried to restart my router, then after 30 minutes I could play one ffa and one h2h. I got 1 point from the FFA (I played chinese without rushing and got 2 capitals in 15-20 turns), and 2 points from the h2h.

I try a new account trying what Michellaso (sp) mentioned. dont check the leaderboards before you play and get an account with a 1200 rank. From that poitn it shoudl be relatively easy to move up to top ten and get games going pretty quickly.

And to eliminate any router issues, seteup your system to be a DMZ host (not the right terminology), but it opens all the ports.

Thats what I did and it seems to be workign pretty well for the time being. the last 2 weeks have been pretty enjoyable I might say. But I knwo this is not the case for many others (including myself a few weeks back).

I've been having fun with my new account not caring about rating and playing random and trying weird strats, whenever I have to play the same person a few times in a row, I'll then pick one of my power civs and they'll have a false sense of security and I'll totally own them, but all in all, I'm looking at losses almost as a good thing, because the more mediocre my rating is, the quicker I find matchups.

that sucks that you're having a tough time morte, i know it sucks being at the top of the leaderboard, waiting forever, then finding a game after 30min to an hour and then only getting 1-5 points. What sucks worse is when you get a freeze and lose 30 points with a top rated account, it always gives me a loss. Hope you find a way around it man.

Well, I just played a FFA using americans and I had fun, getting also 8 points. It seems to work now, at least a bit. I had to kill spanish (good player), chinese and germans, and they seemed to be in the same team, in fact, the second chinese city was after the germans, as following:


CHINESE (2ND CITY) ---- GERMANS --- CHINESE CAPITAL

However, if I get no problems I should continue. I tried zulu some times without rushing and I won against chinese (I got 2 scientist, a city with 5 deserts, and one great builder or maybe two.. I could have like 300 science per turn). However I don't know why but I seem to be able to kill the AI after 20 turns just like today against a greek (I moved the settler for like 4-5 turns)

I feel like there are going to be people leaving en masse too. Not because I don't love the game, i do, but there's no many other great games out right now its hard to split time.

I think in the future, this forum should add a matchmaking/challenge thread where we can organize off console ahead of time. Setting up a match for a specific time is a heckuva lot better than sitting in a lobby.

By now, it's clear that every christmas is going to be the same way, so I beg 2k and Firaxis to put out a lot more off-season games, say Feb or April, so the good community can grow.

Sorry if I don't want to lose two times the points I lose from bugs. If I wouldn't lose 30 points from a frozen game and 30 points for a lucky game, I would try also mongols. And now don't tell me that you can win using mongols against a good zulu player, because you don't know how to play more than many players, you only insult in this forum

rank is not really important to me but a challenge to make this game more interesting why i play ranked is because people dont quit so easy and they try to fight hard to win .
i took 2 capitals very fast and i didnt even met other player cause he quit i won game in les then 30 min . or as russia taking 2 azteck capitals ?
or as rome taking out zulu ? i mean who is rushing who ? even with bad civs you can menage to win.
if i play azteck or china every game 99 % will be all victories and even if you get small adventage people quit. i think people who win with weak civs should get more respect then those who use most powerfull civs .

Isn't hard playing romans, for example? Using spanish? Greeks? Americans? I found strategies with them and they are not really easy to play. I won with romans for example stopping zulu rush (fast rush I mean), aztecs rush (killed horsemen armies in 8-9 turns), arabs rush (2 veteran horsemen armies). That's not as easy as you seem to say. And I don't like using mongols because I don't find it too funny to get rushed in 5-10 turns against zulu, or getting cities with no food/forests

Mongols are very luck based, but when it works out, you can really kick butt. I played a game recently where I started with a couple warriors and rushed Horseback Riding. I ended up getting something like eight or nine cities from barbarians, and taking Beijing from the AI. Because I was able to take them all quickly with horsemen, I had quite a lot of research going.

That was a very lucky map, though. Often when random gives me Mongols I end up on an island! Happens much too often. I think the game hates me.

Look at your record on free for all, teams, and head to head. I have WAY better record. That is why I am higher than you on ALL THREE. You used Zulu against me and lost few days ago in head to head. Do you think that I take out guys with Impi warriors every game? Sometimes I start off in an island and I still win because I KNOW how to play the game. You don't know how to play the game. Just go look at my win loss record. More than half of my losses are through freezes and lag outs. I will play you whenever you want. I don't back down from anyone. Ok there have been two reports to this thread so far, and it has obviously gotten out of hand. Kyodai and Morte, both of you are feeding into eachother and putting the mod staff in a very tough situation. Let's just calm down here.

I'm sure you are both very good players, and I know what it's like to be competitive (I was a top player from June-August 2008), and I understand the frustration of playing against all sorts of strategies, situations, etc.

Best thing to do here is stop using the forums to vent against eachother, just settle it in game or avoid eachother. The ladder is a fun thing to take part in, but due to the issues with disconnects, rank reset bugs, etc., it shouldn't be taken as seriously. Trust me, I had my stats wiped down to nothing for a reason that we still cannot figure out. Try to play the game more for fun, or at the very least try to disengage your personal feelings from the ladder.

If we have more public trolling between anyone in this thread, we may have to do some temporary suspensions. In the mean time, I'm going to close this one. Stay civil and everything will be fine.
