I will be picking up my copy after work today, or maybe on my lunch break if I am lucky.

got it today. it's a fantastic game, seeing as how this is the first time i've ever played bioshock besides the demo. everything looks and feels great.

one thing. it has come up over and over again. even though it has no impact upon the game as a whole, after all of the uproar about it, the fact that they didn't polish up or smooth out that pixelized big daddy for the final version of the game is simply inexcusable

Still to me at least it wasn't somthing that affected the game in any way. I mean only the Elite Bouncers (the one with teh drills) have this issue so the Rosies are fine. Overall I felt if you told any ordinary joe-shmoe off the street and told him to play Bioshock, he proabley wouldn't notice the texture issue. But that's just me...Yeah I agree an issue like that shouldn't of made into the final game but at least it's getting patched, eh?

So far I am really impressed, i plan to write some more detailed impressions once I am a bit further in. One thing I will say is that Survivor Mode provides the most fun and gratifying Bioshock experience ever.

I've just started playing on Survivor Mode earlier today and I must say that it's really fricken' hard! Lol... Right now I'm at the Medical Pavillion going to Neptunes Bounty. I mean now whenever I see a pool of water I'd always have the Splicer follow me till that pool of water so I can just electro bolt it, and finish it off with my wrench! Also since you have a knack of finding small stuff that nobody seems to notice, would you kindly tell me if you see any small addtions....//

One interesting addition is the DLC content like Sonic Boom seem to have regular prices associated with them instead of just the 1 Adam that they are in the 360 version. For example, Sonic Boom is 40 Adam. This actually makes things a bit tougher.

One other little thing is that some of the voices sound a bit different, like the Circus of Values clown and Tenenbaum in particular sound a tad different from what I remember. I think someone else mentioned Tenenbaum sounding a bit different to them in some other thread.

I made it to the Smuggler's Hideout last night before i quit and I really thought the lighting in the PS3 version in Neptune's Bounty was a big improvement. I really thought it was probably the stage with the largest improvement graphically over the 360 that i have seen so far.

Well we all knew they weren't that is why they announced the patch.

I picked this up Wednesday afternoon. Gorgeous, gorgeous packaging, albeit with grammatical errors everywhere on the back of the box and the manual. I installed it and played through "Welcome to Rapture" last night. This is my first time playing BioShock, although I've watched quite a bit of it on other systems. What do I think so far?

    BLISS.

I think this is technically supposed to be the same code as the demo, so I may be imagining things, but... It looks crisper, cleaner and smoother to me. Everything from the back of the pistol to the neon billboard by the first Gatherer's Garden looks radiant. If I had to guess, I'd say it's the same code but perhaps it's benefiting from a larger, smoother hard drive install. I don't know, I'm not a technical person. But I do know this is a breathtakingly beautiful game no matter which way you slice it. I've seen the other versions and quite frankly I don't care about them anymore.

So far I've only see two minor graphical hang-ups: the slight framerate chugging of the bathysphere reveal and the three-step texture pop-in whenever you load a saved file. I can forgive both because they're there one second and gone the next. In no time at all I'm back to basking in dazzling Art Deco opulence.

And since the actual game doles out the action at a more reasonable pace (no security bots in the first section!), I have more time to take in all the details. The game is overflowing with them; I only played through the same stretch that was in the demo, a demo I played a dozen times, and I'm still discovering new details. It's amazing. I'm currently saved (in a file separate from the Autosave, all smart-like) at the start of the Medical Pavilion, and I'm going bat**** crazy not playing the game due to homework and my job.

I'll reserve final judgment until I get through the game once and see how the framerate holds up throughout. But so far, I give it an 11 out of 10.

    Amazing.

P.S. The two guys in the Extra videos -- Steinman and Cohen -- look amazing. Especially Cohen -- that wax museum (I think) was positively chilling.

It's very nice to see that all the pre-emptive woe and hand-wringing was for naught.

    Enjoy Rapture!

I wouldn't quite say that. If a person couldn't stand the demo due to some technical shortcomings, then the full game will not change his/her mind. I was not one of those people; I readily acknowledged my playing and replaying of the demo, but I saw some unpolished spots that needed fixing and I saw in these forums an opportunity to push for change. Now we're getting that change in the form of a patch Nov. 20.

Also, if some of these massive framerate drops and freezes occur that others have been describing, my opinion of the experience will rightfully plummet. But so far I haven't seen any major game-breaking problems. It'll be interesting to see how it holds up in more intense scenarios such as a Big Daddy fight. Here's hoping the game keeps it together.

I haven't had a chance to play since I last posted, so I'm still saved at the beginning of the Medical Pavilion. But tonight... tonight, I shall continue! (Or that's the plan).

I can't wait. And on a side note, it's addicting collecting bullets. I'm playing on Medium, so they're easier to come by than I'd imagine they'd be on Survivor. But man, it's so satisfying stocking up on vital supplies. It gives me a warm fuzzy feeling of safety in Rapture. I have around 30 rounds of pistol ammo right now.

(And no, I'm NOT a gun nut -- far from it, in fact!).

Also, I remember seeing a gameplay vid with a vending machine called the Circus of Values. Call me weird, but I instantly loved that goddamn thing. It's that creepy combination of free market capitalism run amok and the carnivalesque. So cool!

Ah, the Circus of Values machines are ubiquitous. You will shortly see them around every corner.

Silly BioShock Trivia: The machine is voiced by none other than the lead designer, Ken Levine. While I thought it was creepy and cool, I remember a great many posts long ago that were complaints about how annoyed people got with the CoV machine's audio clips. LOL

For pure craziness/humor, nothing beats the ammo vending machines, IMHO.......heh

Yeah, what instantly struck me about the machine is the double meaning of the name: Circus of Values. From a morality standpoint, that's exactly what Rapture has become: social Darwinism at the expense of the little guy; apathy toward the less fortunate in society; all greed and corruption. It's the tragicomedy of Man funneled into one fishbowl of a city, and in this context the vending machine becomes a black bit of satire.

That's the way I interpret it, anyway. I can't wait to see these ammo vending machines you mentioned.
