Bump! Oh, wait a minute...
Hey I like the thread here, has nice strats and tips, anyone wonna play me with me civ, none of my frends have the game and it's boring playing alone. Xbox game tag is same as my name.
the blue hurts my eyes, can you change it to green![]()
i just want to say thank you. this thread inspired me to start one for ciV in the beginning. I hope that one helps pc gamers improve there game as much as this ones helped me improve at civrev. (im so cool i can actually get at least up to rifleman by 0ad...)
Holy Crap!?!?! When did my Roman strat get put on here? Thanks Morte!
i directed someone from gamefaqs here but he pointed out we don't have a tech victory strat. anyone care to write up a basic one for noobs?
I asked for this a while back when I made my guide to eco victories. Since I have always found that the economic wins where faster, I didn't consider myself a pro at it. I looked at the gamefaqs post, and it just seems like the guy doesn't know how it works, since he was asking about the apollo wonder.
I think it would be a nice thing to add to the archive, but at the same time, I haven't used a tech victory in maybe 2 years, so I don't feel right to write one.
Whats a tech victory again?
oh, and MAINTAIN CONTROL OF YOUR CAPITAL
I just cannot stress this crucial point enough...
This thread was very helpful.
Soooooooooooo, our civrevolution went somewhat like this:
1)Pre-patch Mega cities (and Tech wins with China)
2)Tank "rush" (1300AD mostly... great back then!)
3)Knight rush (japan and england)
4)Horserush (I think it came here >_>)
5)Legion rush (roman, to be more precise, followed by spain and germans)
6)Oxford bombers
7)Cat rush
Could someone help contribute to this list?
->I'm gonna try to see if I can make an evolutionary list in winning methods and let my friends who NEVER played A SINGLE CIV GAME try civrev for a few weeks and see what they can come up with
Grayson was pushing his Spanish economic victories (mostly for FFA) somewhere in there, around #3. It was before horserushing was quite so common. I think legions have had more common use since Oxford bombers became widely known. As for catapults, I have used them since the beginning. I don't think the fact that catapults are good is a recent discovery. The only new wrinkle there is that Scottie and Zef are getting them in ancient.
Uhm, I can tell it's not like that the list.
Since I started playing multiplayer, I used Greeks and used the "tank rush" strategy, getting them most of the games (let's say 90% of the times) by 800 AD. It was a good thing because I could do that with only 3 cities and the strategy was really simple. I even remember people liked that even if I didn't even write a strategy.
Then, it came out the Mega city strategy. Tech wins with China have never been there, nobody know about their potentials ( I can tell for sure ).
Knight rush with japan and england? Never been there. Horserush became famous while the mega city strategy was falling.
After that, it's hard to tell. Anyway, I remember every fact of the first months (and years)
You are talking about yourself, the post was about the evolution of the mainstram strategy. I could say that I had a 90% win rate with a very special indian strat, but it wasn't mainstream.
If China tech win is there (which I don't recall), american settler spam should be there. There was always the impi rush, fails and quit strat. Or the Egypt, pray for Colossus then quit strat.
Just like Monty Pythons' 'how to play the flute": " You blow in here, and move your fingers over the holes"
While I am no expert, it seems the key to winning a tech victory is to ignore anything that doesn't help.
Build armies and expand enough that you don't get destroyed
Build the key tech path as fast as possible. The three that are needed for Space Flight are Electronics, Advanced Flight and Nuclear Power. Get the prerequisites for these by building, Oxford or backfilling. Ignore any others, like Automobile.
Only get as much gold as will allow you to buy all of the parts as soon as you have Space Flight (6-8K I think)
Save a GS to complete Space Flight as soon as you are eligible. If you have extras, to build other techs, all the better.
A production city is nice for EITC and Oxford, but otherwise not critical.
I found some videos about people telling how "early domination is almost impossible due to the archers and heavy defences", deeming a tech win (with China) was the fastest way of winning...
Then Zulu started to wreak havoc amongst the 5 turns to bronze, 3200 for an archer in your cap for a total of 3def players
Then the Roman Megacities came up amongst the public
Tanks then became popular
Followed by horserushes and legion rushes
Note: by "Catapult Rushing" I don't mean the lousy first try to hold off the oponent, but the beeline cats in ancient and go kill unsuspecting foes kinda thing
The Zulu rush, Egypt COR hoping and even the American city spam aren't getting on my list because
->Zulu rush and COR hoping aren't "strategies" because praying and quiting when you fail in the first turns isn't reliable
->The American city spam is BROKEN and isn't usable by all civs (being AMERICAN), whereas the Mega City Strat could be used by anyone with COL... or patience.
->Tech Racing was a strat at first, and China seemed to be liked the most for the libraries and pop.
And YES, there was a time everyone loved Japan for its food, and they teched to knights for the kill, look around in the archives and you'll find plenty of knight-rushers (proven once more by American KR games nowadays, when you could just as easily spam a gazilion legions for lower cost faster).
Really, no, I play civ rev since 17th june. I even know myself, I stopped playing greeks before Mr. Game Theory appeared with his mega city strategy. I started playing arabs and played more than 100-200 before he had his strategy ready. And people stopped using the tank strategy by then, just few people. Anyway, many people kept doing it, just like a random strategy (as any other strategy).
Chinese weren't that popular, and by that time, people used the chinese by building about 4 cities.
