Well hold on, I'm assuming Liz just believes this is an iscolent incedent so perhaps we need to show this to her so she can pass it on to the big shots?

That's good to know David
Can you give us some background on the BD texture? What was the rationale for the massive compression on it and are you guys able to maybe patch?
I read the PS Blog where the Marin guys are talking about the love the CELL PPU and SPU was giving the project (OK - they didn't mention the GPU), and it seemed at that stage you were going to go for the spectacular..... If it's able to give you all that - can you possibly find some texture memory from somewhere??
Thanks for your efforts 2K - I have replayed the demo many times, and I am loving it despite the PS1 BD!
I honestly didn't even realize that the game was running in 1080p on my tv until I read through this thread. I thank Royal_Bear for pointing out the difference with 720p and must honestly say that I recommend anyone with a 1080p capable tv of changing your resolution to 720p. The blurriness is definitely a result of the game upscaling itself to 1080. It's interesting that even the videos that play at the end of the demo look clearer, as well as most of the interface just looks sharper and more vivid. Since there is no way to change the fact that the game looks blurred when upscaled hopefully the final version or with the help of a patch automatically chooses 720p like most games because changing the settings to play this game will be a bothersome but doable. I definitely will be picking this one up at some point and here is to hoping that they can fix the texture issues with the big daddys. While it doesn't actually take away from the gameplay it would help keep the parity between this version and the others. I appreciate your response 2kelizabeth and 2kmarindavid. (btw 2kmarindavid, why did you change your response from acknowledging multiple instances of low big daddy textures to a more generic "we're keeping up with the forums") Either way great game!
You know I must admit that 2K at least listens to us, unlike other game studios. I assume you know about the Big Daddy texture issue? It seems it's not just isolated to the 1 dead BD in the demo, do you think perhaps a patch could be created to fix this issue? It'd really mean alot to us Bioshock PS3 Buyers...Don't worry, we're keeping up with the forums.
Good to hear there listening and following whats going on in the forum. I'm sure either way its going to be an excellent game and I'm happy its coming to the PS3 in the first place, I never got to play it yet because I dont have a Xbox 360 or a PC with pixel shader 3.0. I've played through the demo at least 5 times already...
hi all, i've been watching the forum for some time now but never registered/posted. now i just had to voice myself and say: pre-order cancelled, i for one am not paying full price a year and a half later for shotty work. maybe i'll pick it up later when the price comes down or they deceide to fix this, but they prolly wont so oh well, it looks like fallout3 or farcry 2 gets my money instead. all i have to say is:
2K MARIN = EPIC FAIL!!

wow...not to be an apologist here, but isn't that getting a little carried away?
do you really think these people don't care more about this game than you do? Some bad textures do not equal broken. i think it's hard to say that anything about this port could be construed as a failure...especially as emphatically as you are making it.
give them a break. the game will be fine. even if the problems are never fixed, there is still certainly no "fail" here.

then it is certainly not worth full price maybe it should be a budget title

hey sorry im just a bit upset ya know, 1 year and 1/2 later we finally get the game and it supposed to be the definitve version of the game and it doesnt even look as good as the 360 version. and they cant even be bothered to give us an answer why? maybe instead of making challenge rooms, that they will most certainly make for the other versions they should have used that time/money to make the game better? that said i look forward to playing the game, its just that in this economy, it was cheaper for me to buy this on ps3 then to go out and get a 360 too, but now im starting to think that my money would be better spent on other games like deadspace,fallout3, farcry2 etc.
Last edited by gidian; 10-10-2008 at 10:22 PM. Reason: err i can't spell
Of course they don't want to price it any cheaper. They're going to get as much money for this as possible and be done with it.
On to to the next one.
Trust me,there are enough pics to show there is a Big Daddy model texture problem bug,I say bug because it looks like its not loading in the proper textures like the rest of the game. But I post allot of proof and info....
The game itself is great everything else is top notch slightly better than others...but it would be OH SO KINDLY of 2KGames Devs to answer if they will fix it.I guess we and everyone else is making this up.
Well 2KGames might take the EA or Ubi route and sweep this under the rug....
Out of the shadows someone at 2KGames appear....
Well...since I showed tons of proof, info and feedback to you guys can you at least let us know if your working on it? Correcting resolution at 720p to eliminate the 1080p/i blurriness to the graphics and the Big Daddys texture?

Your Welcome Cordy,Im trying...my best to show this to 2KGames...it makes a BIG difference playing it on 720p.
But most people dont know this about setting resolutions.....so 2kGames needs to fix this let the game set it self automatically to 720p so people dont get the wrong impression with the game that its blurry when its not the games fault.
I'm not a programmer but the texture in the BIG DADDY is a flaw that it got overseen by the developers, why I say this?
Well if low res texture were there to make the game faster or slicker then ALL THE ENEMYS WOULD HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEY DON'T!
IT'S JUST THE BIG DADDY!
I too will buy the game but please devs...fix this problem, and guys did you see your guns? They too look bad...oh well...
hey guys,
again, a reminders that insults, spammish (overly large) text, etc. will most likely get you banned for breaking forum rules.
also, as you can see, the devs and i are reading the forums, listening, and will report back to you with more info. i don't have a date for when that's going to happen, but i can assure you nothing is going to get "swept under the rug." while i know i may not be able to make each one of you happy, we will always respond to you. in this case, it takes time. so please don't expect something immediately -- we just can't give an answer that quickly.
thanks
I just dont understand how for example the big daddy blocked pixels could have slipped by.. i really dont its so obvious![]()
Elizabeth as you can see in those forum everyone want that 2k Games fix the big daddy texture because the big daddy is one of the most important thing of this game.
As we can see in the last trailer released, all big daddy have some texture problem so i think that all the player want a patch for fix this problem, we don't want to play a game that have texture in par with the Playstation 1.
Easy now guys, she said that the TEAM IS LOOKING INTO IT, or, they are seeing what can be done, as it seems that they changed they mind and ARE willing to fix the problem, but they need TIME!
Be Pacient. Go Buy Bioshock and wait for the Patch to be released.
Really at this point this thread should be closed except for messages from the team, everyone seems to be just re-stating the same thing over and over and not adding any new bugs or things that haven't been brought to the attention of 2k. (like the above post) Really Neiteio summed everything up in this post
http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/sho....php?t=22974#2
Everything else has really just been a vicious circle of complaining going nowhere.
What do you expect? When something is so obviously skewered, you begin to wonder how much they tested this version if something so big can get by.
That's why we're all pissed.
I don't even know why I'm saying this, this post is probably going to get baleted and me banned.
Whatever. Lazy people with no straight answer. They're not going to fix the texture problem.
But the issue is being addressed not sure why we have to keep stating it over and over. So if they read it for the 200th time they will then say "OHHHHH that is what everyone was trying to say"
Not enough time14 months = a lot of time to port (but I'm not a coder so I could be wrong). As for purchasing the game despite the issues, see below…
I've heard of consumerism, but this is getting out of hand. I like to buy stuff as much as the next guy. Hell, I like to buy stuff probably more than the next guyBut if I buy something, I want to know that I'm getting a good product. Before anybody jumps out and accuses me of suggesting that Bioshock for the PS3 is not a good game, I am not. I am simply saying that I want to know that it will be. The demo does not give conclusive evidence one way or the other. (Gameplay and story seem excellent, graphics and technical attributes not so much.) So, yes, I will be patient, and I will wait for a patch to be released. However, I will not blindly support a product or the company that produces it. No one should. 2k can/will get my money (for this game) when they prove that they deserve it.
Thats good to hear 2K Liz,thats all I wanted to know, trust me everyone is going to happy because everyone is asking for the same thing.
You guys should hire some of us for the next BioShock on the PS3 as quality control cause who ever let this slip by made a big BooBoo.![]()
Are you a Beta Tester for 2k Games? No, so stop to say that we have to find bug or glitch this isn't our "job", they have some BT choosen for play the game, discover glitch etc. We have only to enjoy the game, and with those texture i'm sorry but i can't enjoy the game.
It's an open forum and i can say my opinion and my opinion is that the game have some terrible texture that need to to be fixed. I don't think that the texture problem is a mistake, i think that is intentionally made for saving VRAM and it's a stupid thing, specially with some texture like a PS1 game.
So is there any chance to patch in customizable controls?
As a one handed gamer it would be greatly appreciated.
I managed to finish the demo quite easily but as you could imagine it's not always easy or comfortable trying to use all the shoulder buttons with just one hand for hours on end.
The L1 and L2 buttons are considerably hard for me to use.
Ok, well I've changed my display setting to 720 and no difference. 1080 looks perfectly fine for me and I can barely notice any blur.
I'm highly confused about everyone saying the difference is large. I'll take some screen shots so you can point out the difference for me.
I'm not saying there isn't a difference. I just don't know what I'm looking for when 1080 looks just fine. With no obvious blur.
1080p and 720p look pretty good for me too...
Could be 1080i that is the problem - that has an inbuilt blur filter by default as half the image in scanned every two frames - i've seen that happen on other games and noticed the difference
I've deleted the demo now in anticipation of the full game - though any news on texture patches would be very well received!
I've come back[well i forgot to come back okay] from testing 720p, 1080i, and 1080p on my 1920x1200 monitor. Now, for obvious reasons it verically stretched the picture a tad, but I ignored the stretching, went off mostly horizontal comparisons. Here's the break-down.
The white bars on the right side and the bottom are prevalent in 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. They also remained the same exact size. Which means that whether or not you see the bars in whichever setting is entirely based on your display and how your display responds to the resolution settings(HDTVs will cut-off depending on the resolution, and sometimes indefinitely, LCD monitors, however, do not cut anything off).
Now, the blur. I noticed there was only a slight(and I do mean slight, a hair of difference) change in the blur between 1080i/p and 720p. Same as with my tv. What was new, though, was that it seems that the blur is almost like depth of field. Things off in the distance were more blurred than things closer. This was most noticeable in the bathosphere/entering rapture sequence. Rather than before where the blur bothered me, I kept an open mind, and I found it quite satisfying. It added more realism to the visual aspect of the game - things far away aren't supposed to be as crisp as something in your hand.
Case in point, all three settings appeared to be exactly the same. Whether or not whichever is blurrier than the other really comes down to the way your HDTV handles things.
As for the BigDaddy and pistol textures, I didn't think there'd be any difference, so I didn't go any further.
(I'd still like 1080p over upscaled)
Theres a big difference its like Night and Day!....Im using a Sony Bravia LCD 32" or 37" HDTV HDMI cables anyway and I know Im not the only seeing it but on 720p its much sharper and vivd.On 1080p it looks softer and less vivd.I said this many times already...and some other people see the difference too.
I dont know how you cant see the difference..But its easier to see the difference at the start of the game look how sharp the water is in the plane crash on 720p then look at it again on 1080p...
LAST TIME Im taking pics to prove this...cause Im putting to much work into this( that I hope gets fixed). It doesnt look so good on 1080p it should ONLY upscale for those who dont support 720p.

The only positive thing I can say having it on 1080p is that you will not notice the Big Daddy texture problem so much....
Royal_Bear. Your pictures show a fair difference for you. But mine do not have as big an apparant difference. If I knew how to take screenshots I'd show you.
I have a 52" Panasonic Viera with a HD cable. And at 1080p it looks as good as 720p. Your pictures can not prove otherwise. I will try to borrow a keyboard to take some pictures and show that I'm not just looking for an argument. This is a genuine observation from my experience with the demo.
God damn it don't ignore me 2K!!!
M_B I can only use my left hand, thus I play games 1 handed.
