You said the texture in the PS3 demo of the downed Big Daddy does not match your level of quality. So is there going to be fix for this? Or is it the final version?

I don't disagree with your post in the slightest, Neiteio. In fact, although I'm just a volunteer here, I've worked professionally in customer service and public relations for many years. And if I ever felt a company I worked for was paying lip service to avoid a responsibility to its customers, I quit. If I felt that way about 2K, I would likewise quit as a moderator.
The point of my post, however, was not quite as you described. I was responding to one (of quite a few) posts that were not simply disagreeing with 2K. They were slandering 2K. In particular, the one I quoted accused 2K of holding PS3 owners in contempt. I was highlighting how ludicrous it was to make such a statement when the people you are speaking about are hosting the site and are allowing you to say it. It becomes even more unbelievable that people would then complain about a threat of censorship! As I said, I know many other game company sites where the slightest hint of disagreement would be met with censorship and banning. 2K allows disagreement and has a very responsive employee (2K Elizabeth) tasked with personally answering questions. Above and beyond that, we even allow people to get rude and emotional (within limits).
Anyone even hinting that this board is heavily censored is not doing themselves any favors in the eyes of their peers. Because this thread, and quite a few others, are stellar examples of just how much freedom forum members enjoy here.
Sorry to take things off track, but I felt that needed clarification.
As I said earlier, your posts are a particularly good example of how to carry on a conversation that leads to results. Slander and hyperbole are not.
Bravo Japester. I have been frankly surprised by how much 2k has actually interacted with the community on this issue.
I wish that the rest of the critics would take Neiteio's intelligent and productive approach toward resolving these issues instead of just resorting to braindead trolling.
Japester: I agree that the slander and hyperbole being used by others is a bit much, and as I previously said 2K has my trust for now in regards to answering our remaining questions and fixing any problems that can realistically be fixed. I also appreciate the compliments.
However, in regards to PR it may be true that you wouldn't go along with a company you thought was being dishonest, but there are many people at various companies that would and have and still are. I'm not saying that's the case here, only that companies that appear open aren't always in the consumer's best interest, and that no company is beyond a healthy degree of suspicion in my eyes until they not only listen but make good on the issues being communicated to them.
I'm not concerned, though. Liz said we'll hear back from her on the dev team's findings in regard to the other issues such as custom controls and texture swaps. So, no worries.
EDIT: Sorry, I misread Japester's post and thought he was disagreeing with the idea that the lip service problem exists at some companies (again, not 2K, but other companies). But I can see that's not the case. I'm too tired from the one-two punch of college and work to read straight these days...

There will be no positive answer like 'yes those textures will look awful in the retail version'. Let's talk about visual parity and dedication and love and... The truth is that even 2k is surprised by how unpolished the PS3 version of Bioshock can look.
It's so bad but after all does blocky characters affect immersion?
Ok if you read my post I said I DID cancel my pre-order( but u didnt ) Im not the only one..NOW I express my concern ONLY because I wanted this game so much and expected allot from reading all the interviews, articles and info from 2KGames.
BUT if I see a problem Im going to point it out to hopefully see it fixed.Im a longgggg time gamer so dont try to tell me get out of here or try to stop my vocal views this is what the FORUMS are for,if you cant handle opinions then move on...
And again from what I seen what the PS3 can do better than the Big Daddy textures which is ridiculous..what you want to me to say "Big Daddy looks amazing"
If you think this isnt "serious" go to the other gaming forums and see how people are upset by this and confused this is a HIGHLY anticipated game. And you say graphical issues cant be fixed/patched where have you been all this time its been happening? Its up to 2KGames if they chose too fix...
-The Big Daddy texture
-lock the game at 720p because the 1080p/i causes the game to look blurry on 720p it looks BEAUTIFUL....if not slightly better than the 360 in some ways.
-Stable the framerate
But Im done...Ive said whats wrong with the game...and so has many others....frank!

I see many PS3 owners complaining about the blur. Well, most PS3 games have that blur look to it. Learn to live with it.
Lets not forget that this is not the only game that looks a little better on the 360, almost all the multiplatform games looks a little better, that's just the way it is. So you can't blame 2K for this.
Just be happy it's not a bad port like Los Planet or Fear, 2K actually did a great job with this port, considering Bioshock is graphically the best of the current gen consoles. It may not be perfect, but still it's a great port in my opinion. Who cares about 1 Big Daddy being pixelated.
In my opinion, Bioshock is the greatest game of all time, just be happy you can play it on your PS3 with some extra content. Do you guys actually think a little better resolution will make it a better game??![]()
Nobody is forcing you to buy the game, if you don't like it, then don't buy it. It's your loss!
I competly agree with u its a great game for and and nothing to comnplain about. It looks like i will be my fav game.If u dont like it u dont have to keeeep saying it to everybody. K u dont like it bye. Dont come back and post another negitave thing lol 2k said it looks great then they are obvioulsy not going to listen to u guys.

Wellll...I was one of those people that didnt like the blur but...
Thanks to 2K Liz,she brought up that to check off the 1080p and when I played it on 720p the game looked 10times better the blur wasnt there and the game looked much more vivd and sharper.
Im not sure why its being upscaled to 1080p....and yes the resolution made a difference.
I believe the answer everyone (at least the majority) of people want, is whether or not the game will be patched to fix the Big Daddy, gun, and other textures found to be poor, and the strange framerate issue improved. I'm pretty sure that since it was stated a blur "filter" was not used - fixing that problem won't be possible without redoing the entire game... and I can live with that much. We all just really want the texture/framerate issues patched. That's all. And yes, it absolutely CAN be done. Look at a game like Burnout: Paradise, where they release FREE patches that actually ADD things to the game like bikes, weather changes, more online modes, day/night changes, etc.
If that's possible, then Bioshock should not be an issue to fix. So may we get a final answer please? Will the issues be patched or not?
Once we get a simple yes or no on that, then everyone can quit asking. Sure if they say no, a lot of people will be upset - but no more than they are now & at least everyone can stop asking.
Well I think 2K liz, said that nothing more can be said at this time...so were not going to know now if a patch will be made.We can only hope what some people said here will be taken.
as i said earlier in this thread, i do not have answers to these questions and at this time am not promising anything. if we can fix things, yes, we will. i would like to say this, however: if we do not fix something, it is not because we were lazy, or money-grubbing, or just plain didn't want to. i know a lot about burnout, as you talk about, and day changes, new bikes, and new modes are very, very different code than something like the code you and i are discussing. if we were talking about a new level or a planned piece of new content that we knew we were going add all along, this would be different. but games, and the code behind them, can get pretty complicated and unplanned things (unlike the cases of burnout, which i agree are great add-on content) are not always simple and easy, or even possible to fix.
that all being said, i'll report back if i hear anything new!
No offense but...isn't that your job?
The way I see it, I'll just pretend you said, "We don't know if we are allowed the resources at this time".
I'm still buying this game, just eff why aye.
You know what?
Don't listen to the smack talkers 'cause i believe that 2K did do their best to make this game the best they could for the PS3.
I'm excitedly waiting for the release waiting to play it with still the same amount of anticipation as i did when i first heard it was being ported.
To compare this to actual **** ports from other devs in the past is inane, because they fell short in all areas and aspects of the development.
After playing the Demo for my first time i was completely immersed, and for the others that havn't played the game on other systems prior, would be lying if they were to say that they themselves were not immersed. It left me wanting more, and to be truthful i didn't notice ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE GRAPHICS it looked amazing. The reason why i didn't notice any graphical deficiencies was because of the atmosphere and story of the game.
What i think is happening here is that it may not be the PS3 fans that are being the most crucial, but the fans of the game that have played it last year and are now down playing it because it was exclusive for their system and are upset because another chunk of gamers get to enjoy your great game. (ie. Fanboys) Which is only a speculation... allegedly of course.
After seeing the screens of the pixelated Big Daddy, of course i was a bit disappointed, that was my consequence of trolling the gaming news sites.
But after analyzing my first impression of the demo i came to the conclusion that (as i stated above) i didn't notice them, due to the fact of the game sucking you in and distracting you from seeing a downed Big Daddy in the water, Cause i missed him completely from my first play through.
Lastly, to those of you that are quick to judge this game plays from the Unreal Engine 3, which has been notorious of being quite buggy and hard to work with and code for the PS3, and to especially port over from its PC -360 iterations would be even more tasking. Don't blame 2k for this outdated engine, the engine was designed for a PC which is very close to 360, and the PS3 not being anwhere near those two in terms of programming architecture.
So one may say why not program using a different engine. C'mon people, to have to completely rewrite a game from scratch or create an engine for it within a year is completely insane, it would never be done within this constraint, and if it was i believe it would be shoddy at best.
Besides what would really be the point of releasing a game that was released in '07 and possibly have it released late in '09? on PS3(from a complete rewrite or different engine use) With a possible sequel in the midst. I'm glad 2K took up the challenge and is going to deliver this great game to the PS3 community. And hopefully a Bioshock 2? to appear on the system as well.
-So Thank You 2K
And Thank You Elizabeth for not ignoring the reasonable posts that were made
PS. To those of you that are nay saying and that are still on the fence consider this post. If not, and you still havn't played the game yet and refuse to because of some minor hiccups (which could maybe fixed by a patch) it'll be your loss and yours alone.

Yeah good post. Thats what I say...just play the game and enjoy it. Dont worry about every little texture, you wont even notice it if you are enjoying the game anyway.
I registered just to say thank you to Elizabeth for being so responsive and patient in what is clearly a tricky situation and to Neiteio for representing PS3 owners so well. Both of you are a real credit to the gaming community.
I had been greatly looking forward to finally playing Bioshock on my PS3 and I thought the game quality was okay in the demo, however if I am to pay full price for a year old game that can be bought for a third of that price on the original formats, I expect a better quality game and that Big Daddy texture really does not cut it. Bioshock clearly needed another month of polish to sort out the textures and improve the frame rate. Sorry but I will be waiting for a price drop: I don't feel that the port's shortcomings will negatively impact my enjoyment of the game in any significant way (I love the atmosphere!) but I just can't justify paying full price the way this port was handled especially with so many games coming out at this time of the year.
One other thing, the subtitle text is far too small and features entire paragraphs of text. Less subtitle text should be displayed and what is there should be a lot bigger. It would also be nice to be able to turn off the text that appears when your crosshair moves over something.
Then turn the subtitles off and learn how to listen...Besides there were already 3 reviews in by PSM, OPM, GamePro and the 3 all mentioned supberb graphics....One other thing, the subtitle text is far too small and features entire paragraphs of text. Less subtitle text should be displayed and what is there should be a lot bigger
BigMummy,I agree and its been what Ive been saying.....and yeah I agree the Subtitles could be a little big but thats a bit nit picking and Frank grow up...subtitles are not only for looks they are deaf gamers you know *sighs*![]()
Well, it's been interesting watching this develop since the demo dropped. I realized over the first weekend that the demo was pretty much gonna look like the final version, and I've come to terms with it.
I have a 360 and a PS3 and really prefer the PS3. But I realize that Microsoft was smart in making the 360 architecture much like a PC, which most games and engines are developed for, so that's a good advantage for them.
Bioshock just wasn't meant for the PS3 and it looks like it. I'm not cutting down the coders, I know they had high aspirations, and that's why I did. There were numerous reports in the beginning of improved textures or graphics in general. But, no. I do believe they did the best with what they had to work with (within tough deadlines of course). The atmosphere and gameplay is intact but, in my opinion, the overall original experience is nearly broken.
I have a feeling the rough Big Daddy textures are like that on purpose to improve the framerate. There's more than one example of it in the demo if you look closely...
So, extra content saves the day for this game.
Ah regardless, I'm over this. I'll probably rent this to check it out and pick it up for 360 down the road.
But I'm encouraged to know that many companies are really beginning to utilize the PS3 hardware and it's starting to show. Some companies are now using the PS3 as the lead development hardware, and that's awesome. Now my hopes are that Bioshock 2 can utilize the cell in a proper way and give us PS3 owners some love.![]()
hey guys, I would also like to share my concerns for this game's graphical issues between both consoles. Here are 3 scenes that have often shown up in comparisons and here is my take on them with both my PS3 and 360.
http://img01.picoodle.com/img/img01/...1m_2d17f36.jpg
http://img27.picoodle.com/img/img27/...2m_aa18349.jpg
http://img29.picoodle.com/img/img29/...3m_e7fd8e4.jpg
As you can see, I also have Photoshop and the ability to blur at will. Up next, how Dead Space on the 360 has a Gaussian blur of exactly 1.8 compared to the PS3's 0.2.
Moral of story, don't buy into people posting image comparisons unless you really trust them.
And by the way, yes I saw the screen Liz posted from the actual team and ironically, there is a Gaussian blur filter thrown over the entire screen... why, I have no idea... But my point still stands, hehe.
Mike
I have a question for you Gta,did you play at 720p? The game runs at 720p I believe but gets upscaled to 1080p which makes the game look blurry...I am hoping that a future patch will fix this lock it at 720p because I play games that are 1080p in resolution and dont want to keep changing my settings.
But also Gta,the game isnt THAT blurry....lol...did u alter it?
Please don't be rude, Frank. That comment was out of line.
Also, I've had to ask some people to stop spamming the thread. That same rule applies whether you are for or against the demo. Please don't randomly argue with folks, especially when they have a legitimate complaint (like the subtitles).
What did I say wrong? All I said is that if you can't read the subtitles then learn to listen better or turn up the volume. It's not like offended anyone?....//
Well I took two pics of the game its not the best cause its not a direct feed,I took it with a camera. But as you can see the game looks beautiful in and ONLY 720p vivd in color and sharp....So If 2KGames and fix the resolution settings some people will not complain about the blurry look cause that only happens in 1080p resolution. Also because some people wouldnt think of changing the settings(like myself).
All PS3 Images NOT alter at all...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...e/IMG_0629.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...e/IMG_0628.jpg
So Please 2KGames if a patch is made fix the res settings to 720p only this is what Bioshock on the PS3 will look like for everyone...this will fix the blurry visuals people are talking about. And knock the hassle of changing it...Cause when Bioshock releases gamers are just going to pop it in an play.
LoL@Frank it was rude....like I said before some gamers are deaf what you said wasnt nice.

Wow, quite a backlash here. I think it is being blown out of proportion but it is not hard to understand why people are upset at all. It comes 14 months later and installs pretty much the whole game and still doesn't look as good as the 360 version.
By comparison this really isn't any improvement over PS3 year one ports. I think the Unreal engine is likely partial to blame too, from what I have read it seems that the PS3 version of Unreal has only really been stable since Unreal III was released on the PS3, which was sometime after BioShock was released on the 360.
Since BioShock ran on a (I think) modified version of the Unreal 3 engine it probably means that the code isn't as stable as it now, which is probably why Digital Extremes was brought on, to improve on that and make the game stable.
An extra difficulty mode and some bonus download rooms really doesn't make up for the compromised version of the game. If you already own it there isn't anything here for anyone to benefit from really. I think it contradicts the notion of bringing it to a "new audience" I mean I know I personally don't care about a super hard mode and some more rooms to play in. Some people will do and others will use it as a bonus to say "X console is better" but it ultimatly doesn't matter. Looking for more difficulty options is rarely a feature gamers look for when making a purchase.
That said, I still can't wait for the game. I wouldn't otherwise be playing it since I don't own a 360 or play on the PC. The game will still be good, just not "genetically enhanced" as the PP people want you to believe but more "technically cripled".
Frank, you seem to think because you can understand everything just fine that everyone else can. I also have an issue with the subtitles, people play games with disabilities you know. In my case it is just a force of habbit to use them, with the distorted voices and such in BioShock it also helps understand what is happening.
Advising someone to turn their TV up is a bit like asking a blind person to open their eyes, for many it makes no difference. This is probably an issue that was present on the 360 version though and was ported over.
Can someone help me with these three questions also that I am unsure of:
1 - Is the textures for the Big Daddies in the final game the same as the demo? I was initially under the impression this was a demo flaw but reading the thread I no longer know.
2 - What is the status of which resolutution to play the game? My TV supports all resolutions up to 1080i, including 720p. Is 720p the advised way to play the game? If it is, does the retail game automatically set it to 720p? Games like GTA IV and Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction do so that is why I am asking.
3 - Has it been clarified about the menu font, if it looks as bad on the actual retail game? The static menus shimmer about on the demo, it really is horrible to look at.
This is what Im asking here and hoping BioShock res is 720p but for some reason it gets upscaled to 1080p which makes the game look horrible. But Looks amazing in 720p just look at my post above...I took pics of the 720p res.
Blur is gone...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...e/IMG_0628.jpg
Im crossing my fingers that the retail version automatically sets it to 720p.

You are doing it alot on the forum! Your opinion is that there are no issues with the game. Not everyone shares this view and when they don't you tell them not to buy it and to leave the board. Now I'm not buying the game so does that mean I should leave?
No thought that the original poster may have been deaf? Because YOU can read the subtitles & hear the audio you presume everyone else can.
Accept that people have different opinions to you and are on this forum to express them but do not tell them to leave because you do no agree with thieir opinion.
First of all I would like to say thanks to 2K Elizabeth and the Bioshock dev team for coming forward with an honest answer. Also I would like to say that I take all those comparison screenshots with a grain of salt. When I first downloaded the demo on my PS3 I was thinking “Ok, what will be different on the game?”. So I started the demo and guess what. It was the same as the PC demo. Then I hear this blur theory and I thought that the comparison war will build up again. Then I saw the screens from the 2K Team and I was laughing because what we are talking about here is insignificant. I really don’t see that much of a difference between the two. No wait. I don’t give a damn how the other versions look. I have a PS3 and I bought it knowing that through the first 2-3 years companies will struggle programming it. Bioshock looks very nice tbh. The fact that some people try to exploit this to prove that the PS3 is a piece of **** and the fact that we (I’m talking about all the PS3 owners) let them do exactly that is beyond my comprehension. I am really tired of all this. I want to play the game for its great story and the good gameplay. No blur and no ‘’lees than the XBOX 360’’ sharpness will ruin the gameplay and the experience. If you don’t like the game go buy an XBOX 360 and play the game there. I’m just thankful that they even took the time to release it on the PS3. Yeah, they will make money from it, but I will get the chance to play the game. Let me ask you something else. If Fallout 3 on the PS3 looks a bit less than it’s XBOX 360 or PC versions will you not play it? Oblivion didn’t look like the 360 version in some areas. So what? It was and still is a great game. So will be Bioshock. So let it be for now. Rent it. See if you like it and then buy it. I will agree with gtabmx. Don’t trust whatever you read or see. Judge for yourself. That’s what I did and I didn’t see any major differences. Play around with the settings. I use a monitor and it plays like the pics posted from Royal_Bear.
Ok, so the blur problem CAN be fixed after all.
But, the Real problem with the Bioshock port is the Big Daddy.
I'm Playing Bioshock on my PC right now and i would Clearly play it on the PS3 as i like to play FPS on controllers (if the Big Daddy texture problem was fixed.)
Not sure NOW if I would buy it for £30, if you can fix the issues, I would re- pre-order itWas very disappointed at the big daddy texture (isn't the testers supposed to fix them issues?
I will thank 2k for including 1080i upscaling. My HDTV doesn't accept 720p so this allows me to play the game in HD. For those telling them to get rid of that, just set yours to 720p, withot 1080i I would have to play in 480p. So thanks to 2k for that.
Yeah Frank, that really did piss me off. I've needed sub-titles since I was little and now that I am officially going deaf in my left ear, it really made me angry how you tell someone to "learn to listen". What the hell?
So now I'm supposed to feel guilty for not having the ability to hear perfect?
And also, it's obvious GTAXMB or whatever added the blur to the PS3 version or has a ****py HDTV. The game looks nothing like those pathetic shots on my HDTV. Minus the BD texture problem, this game looks amazing on my tv.
Edit: I say it's obvious because in his shots even the life bar, ammo gauge, etc are all blurred. That's ****. It doesn't look like that at all in the real game. Just another troll, it seems.
Are you kidding me, lol.
I said
Of course I altered those pics, that's my point, any single person can use photoshop to blur stills to make the game look worse, so unless you see it from yourself or from someone respectable, don't believe it. For God's sake, the statue head has a hat!!
EDIT:
I know you don't like it when people tell you to learn to listen, but what if I told you to learn to read? Since, you obviously failed to do so properly with my post. I am not a troll, I am the exact opposite. I wanted to show that any troll/fanboy can blur pics and say one version is ****.
Mike

i do believe the point the poster is trying to make is that he doctored in photoshop using a blur filter -- that his PS3 screens are not "real" but photoshopped.
i would like to say that we did NOT photoshop ours, of course. what would be the point in that? i watched them be taken, and i myself only scaled them to 600 pixels wide so that they wouldn't break the tables in this forum. other than that, they are EXACTLY -- blur, color, saturation, contrast, all of it -- the same as on a TV.
welcome!
actually, months back, a fan wrote me asking to tell the team to support 1080, and listed all the reasons you speak of about why 1080 is important. partly because of that poster (thanks dude!) we included it in the game (as i've said before, most stuff you write me i walk directly over to the dev studio for them to read.) it just made sense to have 1080, and was good for those who really wanted it.
