It is being handled extremely well and I'm glad to know there is a company out there that listens to it's fans.
I can think of a lot of other companies that would brush this aside *cough*EA.
I mean hell even Metallica weren't man enough to accept that their new album has clipping issues. It takes a lot for a company that's invested millions into a product to stand up and say "hey we know there's an issue, we're working on it". I greatly respect 2k for that.
    (My bold)

I'm afraid that they are handling this just like they handle the problems that are all over Civ: Rev.

Sure they have mods on here "communicating" over the issues, but all we get is that one half of the problems are, of course, by design and fully intentional and the other half will, hopefully, be sorted out in the future.

Well, for me that doesn't cut it anymore, 2k needs to start releasing fully functional (Civ: Rev's MP broken since release) and polished games from scratch.

Bioshock is probably still a very, very good game, but for me it's has boiled down to the fact that I don't feel like supporting 2k's sloppy programming/QA anymore. Simple as that.

    Disappointed

Hi, folks. Last week, after playing the Bioshock PS3 Demo I did a quick google search to find out why it looked so blurry--and here I am!

Some people on these boards are saying most people won't notice the decreased graphical fidelity (and I'm sure 2k Games are hoping they won't notice).
I only played Bioshock for half an hour on 360 before. Now, over a year later I played this PS3 demo and I could easily tell it didn't look right.

    2k Games, people will notice.

I agree completely. PS3 is a well-established system and PS3 owners deserve better. We shouldn't put up with these half-hearted ports anymore.
Sure, the core game will be amazing as ever and I can't wait to finally through it (for the first time!), but it's time to send these companies a message.
I implore any principled gamer to put their excitement for the game aside, and refuse to pay full price for an inferior product. I'm waiting for a patch that puts it at LEAST on par with the 360 version.

I think you are overreacting. What has occurred to you is the effect of time. What looked more impressive back then , will look less impressive today.

I have played it on both the PC and the PS3 and I am satisfied with what I see on the PS3 even if its not 100% on par with a powerful PC

Well said,I never had any base of comparison having only the ps3 as my main gaming machine,my pc can't handle games with nice graphics. For such a long time I wanted to play Bioshock,tO me it looked amazing except for the ****py textures on big daddys and a few materials,I've bought games that were way ****pier then that demo, but I have to agree, as much as I want to play it I'd really want the experience to be on par with the 360,I know the ps3 can pull it off and I know 2k can make it happen if they trully wish to,so it takes money and time but lets say they take some time and some money apart from Bio2 and actually decide to make this game worthy through patching or adding Dlc to add to the mandatory install for the ps3 to improve the textures(Isn't this the game they're most proud off?It would be mine)then ppl would cash in because the game looked good and runs great ,t probably would lead to investment X in the end they would get X+X/4=Y(ps3 sales) and have a positive investment to use on improving Bio2 or whatever later on.
2k make it happen otherwise the Ps3 community around the globe will bring you "pain" since this day,to release your pearl badly ported isn't really a nice thing specially since it has some time already but as Oblivion did it nicely, you guys can make it happen too, unfortunatly now only through patching.
Work on it and make the game justice for our sistem as well otherwise you'll be owing us big time.

Okay, I'm just gonna go ahead and put this out there, even though it's been said many times...

Do you guys honestly think they care? The representative is just their to try and quell all those hateful thoughts and feelings that you have right now so you'll buy the game. They don't really care if you like the game or not, they don't really care if you don't buy the game or not because tons upon tons of other people will. As it has been said, they are a business and as with any business they don't really care if you're happy, just if they have your money.

You say you're going to rent the games? Big whoop, you're still supplying them money. All those game rental places have to pay more than the regular 60 bucks in order to legally rent them out to others, so I still don't see how you're, "...sending them a message..." by just renting it?

I'm still gonna buy this game. At first I was very content and wowed with the quality, I still kinda am. I still think the game, as a whole, looks amazing. There are a few things that look like ****, yeah, but in the long run, no one else cares besides the people on these boards. Now, I'm just getting angry with all the **** they've been posting just to try and appease you people. None of it means anything, you realize that, right? They.Just.Want.Your.Money.

This game will never look like the 360 in some departments, we all have to realize that fact. They lied when they said that it doesn't fit their level of quality. Or, maybe they didn't lie, they just realized, after the fact, that they will get no more time or money to make it better. Even if you throw hundreds of thousands, or millions of dollars at them, they are never going to fix this game. Get over it. As the ATHF movie once said, "Don't like it? WALK OUT! WE STILL HAVE ALL YOUR ****ING MONEY!" or, in this case, maybe they don't, but still, don't like it? Walk out.

It's obvious they are going to be doing nothing to fix this game. Congratulations for wasting all of our time, you, you, and you....and you. And you and you.

I think the clarification post was really helpful to gain an insight into what decisions and compromises need to be made when porting from Xbox to PS3.

You have confirmed that the BD texture in the demo will be the same as the released version as the screenshot shows us that (from a distance!)

I don't imagine that this texture is an accident - you couldn't help but notice it from testing - so can you provide us with some detail as to why this was a necessary choice for the implementation team?

I think we all share the opinion that the BD is the iconic main character of BioShock - just look at the cover art and the banner on this forum - so it is a real shame that he looks like he has come from another era (1996 not 1959!). It's the character you want to meet and overcome and the great sense of immersion the graphical and audio stylings have provided is very much interuppted.

I believe that if this were fixed - all the other issues in the demo (need for overscan, heavy anti-aliasing) would not be getting the same level of attention.

So - can you give us some background on why this was necessary, and more importanty for all - will this be able to be patched? If the texture is streamed from the HD cache, then I am hopeful that it can

All the best to 2K - I appreciate your considered responses.

One other question - what is the actual PS3 resolution - I was playing around with PC Bioshock and I have the feeling that is is actually upscaled 576p which gave me the closest match to what I see on PS3, and probably explains the need for the blur (very much like GTA IV)

Dont blame 2K games...its a Sony system. Sony had to be different and write code that no one can understand or port.

That makes no sense at all. Blame the company (2k) for not allotting enough time and money into this port.

God forbid we advance in technology.

Seems every other company can code for the system. Only 2K lacks the know-how. But I guess it is Sony's fault.

Well actually it does make sense. Many game devs complain about Sony's complex software. Gabe Newell who owns valve went on a rant about it.

Does anyone know if the glitch that let you get outside of the walls (using the baby carriage) still works in this version? I might just have to test it myself tonight.

There was a place where that guy comes in flames that you can jump on the crouch and get trough the pillar, it happens on PS3 and PC.

Oooh, nice! Thanks for that, something else to extend the demo's replay value.

I'm not sure how much feedback you've gotten on not supporting keyboard and mouse for Bioshock on PS3, but I wanted to be at least one to let you know that after playing the demo and not seeing keyboard and mouse support, I will not be buying the game. This is literally the only issue that is preventing me. This goes for any FPS made for the PS3. Why any company wouldn't seize the opportunity to bring the most used input device for the genre into the console market is beyond me. Then again, I'm just some college kid that's been studying the market while looking for an in, what do I know!

i'm sure you know this, but those two development studios are two entirely independent places -- across the country from each other -- and staffed and run entirely by different people!

that aside, no one is blaming Sony, i hope in my explanations of what's going on i never confuse anyone and make them believe i am -- it's simply not the case!

    Cool

Hey Liz,is it possible that the 2KGames devs lock the resolution at 720p? Cause it looks beautiful at that resolution sharp and vivd..but when it upscales to 1080p the blurriness appears.

Yes, I know 2K does not develope the code for the game I just used 2K as the general company ( simply because 2K is getting all the complaints). As I did not want to break it down to individial software developers.

Please don't lock it at 720p, those of us with CRT HDTV's can't play games at 720p, we need the upscale. It's simple for you to set the game at 720p for you. Don't take away our option to play it at 1080i.

Yeah thats true then it will be better if the game set at 720p but if most CRTs or HDTVs dont support that it should upscale then.I hope this happens....cause when I set the correct res...it looked like a improved game. lol

    1080p?

will the game be 1080p supported? I am running a HDTV that is 1080p and I'm running my PS3 through a HDMI connection? will this resolution be supported?

The demo worked at 1080p, so I dont see why not. Everyone is saying 720p looks better though...

I absolutely love this demo. I've played it through far too many times.

Now I'm trying to decide which level I'll try and play the game through first time round. I'll probably go for the middle difficulty so I spend less time re-doing parts in order to enjoy the story. As I know nothing about how it progresses. Anyone going to go straight in at the hardest level? It would be nice to get a feel of it from the demo.

I would advise the medium difficulty setting the first time through, as you plan to do. On hard the first time, there is too much to try to learn, since in Bioshock you have to learn to manipulate the enviroment to survive. On hard the first time through, you'll spend a lot of time in the vita-chambers.

    Cool

Yeah it supports 1080p but not in a good way...the game graphics degrades it looks very blurry.

I strongly advise,to play it on 720p....I know its annoying changing settings but its the best thing to do,untill hopefully it gets fixed.

720p looks better. I don't know why they upscaled it to 1080p in the demo.
