Ironically, what you quoted from NeoGAF
was written by me. And I pointed out the same solution here in the opening post. At any rate, the 720p trick doesn't change the fact that we shouldn't have to manually change the system settings everytime we play the game. Every other PS3 game I've ever played changed the settings itself upon booting up. Why should the player have to go through the trouble everytime they want to play Bioshock?
And you mentioned that 2K overlooked the bad texture on the downed Big Daddy. Problem is, the texture is that bad on EVERY appearance by the Big Daddy in the demo. One of the worst offenders is after you've passed out from the first plasmid and you're ebbing in and out of consciousness; when the Big Daddy steps onscreen and is looking down at you, he's a muddled mess of washed-out pixels. It's so bad that the diving suit almost looks
furry, not smooth and iron-clad.
And when you say you're looking for problems to replicate, what do you mean? Are you guys going to patch the game or something? And is the demo the same code as the final retail build? Will the textures on the Big Daddies and other problems in the demo be just as bad in the retail version? Will anything be done to fix it?
I think the code issue is what needs clarification the most. Are the people previewing the game at IGN and 1Up using the same code as was used in the demo? Or is the demo based on old, outdated code, and if so has the code since been improved for the retail release, resulting in better visuals than the demo? That's what numerous people here and elsewhere keep asking, and that's what we need to know.
