Would Burned games play on Xbox 360?

Because my sister's ex Boyfriend lost a game that he had to review for Teamxbox and a few days ago we found it in her apartment when she was moving, and I wondered if it will play on the 360 I know it will play since it is backwards compatible with that game but do you need anything special to play in a stock console. and after I get enough answers that are basically the same could one of the mods please lock this thread since I don't want too many posts in this thread.

No. Burned games will not work in any unmodded, or otherwise specialized, console.

Reviewers don't use burned discs... where'd you get that idea from?

Cause he worked for Team Xbox and the disc is Burned, The disc says Copy of QA Master, and has all the Copyright Information like any normal Game, but I figured it was burned since my Sister thought it was.

All I can tell you is that game companies send out advanced copies to reviewers. Not sure what to tell you about them being burned.

Yea I'm pretty sure its against the rules to talk about this stuff here...BUT...the hack that was being used was a firmware hack that was vanquished by M$ recently, but was then again conquered with a new hacked update. It's just a back and forth battle; there is no one good way to make burned anything work on a 360.

It *is* theoretically possible for a normal 360 to play a game burned on a dvdr - as I understand it, the xbox looks at the disc and checks a flag that tells it what type of media its allowed to play off of, retail games are set to play off of pressed discs only, and further the flag cannot be changed as flag & executable (and maybe more I only know the basics) are cryptographically signed by microsoft.

In short, its only possible if microsoft wants it to be possible.... which is highly unlikely, the risk is far too high if it ever leaked...

However, if it just LOOKS like a dvdr by the coloring and such, its possible microsoft produces special burnable cd's that have the appropriate information such that they look like a retail disc despite being recordable, theres no technological reason they couldn't do this, and the risk is quite low (if 10 discs are stolen, 10 games could be copied no more) This is just speculation though.

I'm pretty sure that there are no production runs done of anything but the final master, since doing a production run is expensive, so I'd say one of the following is true:

    1) reviewers only get early samples from the production run, in which case I have no idea what you have

    2) they burn special recordables that can play in a normal console but cannot be copied

    3) reviewers have dev kits which can run unsigned code

if anyone knows for sure how all that stuff works (and can tell us, I'm sure some people reading this board know ) please let us know, I'm always curious about such things

I think it was burned by the Company that made the game and on the disc it says
    [ ] Test Build
    [ ] Submission Candidate
    [ ] Master Candidate
    [ X ] Copy of QA Master
    [ ] Data Files
    [ ] Raw Build Data
but there is an X right beside the one I have which is the Copy of QA Master.
It has all the publisher information I think I should mail it back to the company even though it is almost 3 years old.

Edit* the disc was made in 2004.

    Exclamation

Forgive me, but I think this is too sticky a topic to discuss on an official forum, so I think we should end it here. As always, if you have a problem with this, go bug Elizabeth!
