I want to be fair to 2k now.... We all know how many of us have problems with our mp, but I am curious to anybody who has played this game regularly online and hasnt had any (or even just minor) problems

gonna have to bump this soon before it falls off the botom of the page.
Not many takers by the looks of it :P
right now there are almost 300 people playing active MP games on the PS3 servers. i can't tell you if their game has 0 problems, however!
one of the best uses of an official forum is to report problems, so that we, the team who created the game, can help fix them.
if you have a problem with your game, please post in one of our tech threads -- especially if you are having a problem with a "failed to join" error message after installing 1.20. that would be the most help to me.
thank you!
Grimy, might be worth it if you posted the same troubleshooting information that is being posted in the "1.20 problems" thread - it might then start to become more obvious that certain setups are more successful at playing online than other...
1. all information about your PS3 -- version, latest firmware
2. where you live in the world and what kind of dial up you have (DSL, cable, etc.)
3. NAT type, router type, if you are being a firewall or if you have a wired/wireless connection
I was probably one of them and still have lots of problems. I know that some are connecting with "player X" since I see 3 of the 4 spots filled. Some reason I can not connect with "player X" while I can with "player Y".
Also when I do connect sometimes I'm put into a game already started. How can you tell if a game has already started or not. I remember this was an issue with civ4 until it was patched so you can tell between the new games vs ones already started.
I have had two games today to get stuck between turns and again noticed those spinning gears doesn't fit.

In the nicest way possible, I really don't count a 300 number as being a good thing. I had an MORPG that hit 280 people online simultaneously and it was nowhere near a commercial level game.
I'm still having no luck with getting this game online either![]()
I work in IT professionally, setting a PS3 into your router's DMZ should completely eliminate any kind of connection problems (and doing that is really really insecure)
I get a NAT type of 2 whether I set the PS3 up with a dedicated IP address set on my router's DMZ, or have it fetch an IP address automatically. I have been able to host/join Soul Calibur 4, Resistance: Fall of Man, Need for Speed: ProStreet, and Formula 1 Champion series games... to name a few. I highly doubt the possibility of it being my connection, and I experience the same problems most people here have... both being inable to host a game due to the "Failed to host" error, and not being able to join games listed in multiplayer.
Luckily for me, however, I really bought the game for the gameplay - which I can experience quite well in single player. I just hope this gets fixed shortly. 2K isn't the only group has had had problems getting games to work correctly over PSN.
i agree, but i decided i wouldn't waste my time finding more formal numbers for you so did a quick look up of the number of games being played at that moment (which is the middle of the day!) -- and then went back to working on figuring out what's going wrong for the rest of you. ;-)
I know that people can play online on occasion.... I myself played an unranked h2h game from start to finish today.... However that is the only scenario that I am possibly able to get in after hours of trying a free for all and a team matchup.... So my original question still stands... Is anybody on these forums able to utilize all or most of the online functions (ranked games, FFA, Team Matches, Join lobby games, etc) with little or no problems??? If so please post here
PS, this is intended soley for the ps3 console
I don't most people on here are shocked some people are on playing. Even those experiencing these problems (or at least most of them) have been able to either occasionally join a ranked match after many failed attempts, or failing that, play a game with people on their friends list. So even seeing 300 people online doesn't really show that Any of them are experiencing the game error free. They may all be experiencing the exact same problem, and have either trudged through it, or devised workarounds until something is done.
anyone at all???
I know but there are people posting that not everybody is having this problem and that other people can play just fine...... I would like to find out who they are referring to cuz i dont know of anybody without these issues
I haven't seen anyone post that their ps3 version is working without problems. Sure we can get on now and again, but its very unreliable.
Is it fully functional for you? If so post your network setup. In the order:
- PS3 model and its firmware version
- Router and its firmware version
- Modem and its firmware version
- UPnP, DMZ and any other configuration in the router
- The PS3 network configuration
- The NAT you get
- your ISP
nope, i can play h2h sometimes but thats it.......
i never experienced issues, props 2k and fireaxis
mine works fine no problem
The most concerning thing is that not everyone is even having the same problems. Some can get into ranked but not unranked; some can only get into unranked. It points to a much larger problem rather than a little bit of botched code.
Worse than that. Last night I couldn't join Ranked games anymore, but I could play unranked ones. before it was just the opposite. Since I didn't change anything after my last ranked game, I really wonder what in heaven is going on.
To be sure that my connection is not faulty I've put on GTA4, which is the one that gave most problems in the past, like Civrev. I can join any lobby/game even with 10-15 people. Since they both use gamespy servers, this thing is getting trickier than ever.
i am able to join ranked games (atleast h2h and team .. i didnt try ffa ) if someone else is already hosting them .. but am unable to host my own ..
i hv asked those couple of guys with whom i played yday as to what they did special .. and the funny thing is .. they didnt know .. one of those guys didnt even know what port forwarding or dmz meant ..![]()
i was pretty hopeful until then .. no my only hope is for one of these lucky guys to host a game for me to join ..
just a thought here .. i dont know how QA at 2k/firaxis tested the MP component .. but it would be great if elizabeth can actually post the network setting if there is someone from 2k who tested it from their home ..
i am completely stumped as to why my network connection settings do not work .. like a poster before me said .. i hv taken the risk of putting the ps3 on to the dmz .. what more can one do ???
may be i will try and connect my ps3 directly to my modem today .. let me see how that goes ..
It is becoming increasingly obvious that this game was never really tested "in the field". Whilst there must have been some sort of network constructed internally at 2k to test this, it clearly didnt resemble our home connections very closely. Five minutes of testing on a home connection via internet would have showed up many of the problems that we are experiencing.. i dont know how QA at 2k/firaxis tested the MP component .. but it would be great if elizabeth can actually post the network setting if there is someone from 2k who tested it from their home ..
this is not true. we simulated real world conditions and have testing facilities in several different locations. i know this office here has a good connection, but by no means an uber connection you may think we have.
all that aside, we're working on this problem and i'll have an update for you soon!
