Does anyone have it? I was wondering if it was worth getting. But more importantly, can it be used for the DS? I knoow that DS version is identacal in terms of core gameplay, but is the book mainly for the 360/Ps3 games?

I never get them. I like to do it myself. Just like cheat codes they kinda take the fun out of it for me.
this is a game with a GREAT strat guide. I NEVER buy these guides for the same reasons (feel like cheating, etc...) but this game has no "spoilers" and theguide is full of strategy and tips as opposed to a game that says "turn left kill the monster and find the secret room".
The guide is helpful for planning strategy vs. various civs, and all that stuff as well as unit info, tech info, and wonder info....
definiteyl worth the buy!
I think lol I've channged my mind again and will likely get the strat guide. But my question now is, the guide can be used for the DS version right? I would assume so, since the game is basically the same on all 3 systems. It wold probably be helpful since the DS has no civilipoedia. I was just wonderin if I could confirm it with someone.

My advice regarding strategy guides is to make up your own mind. Don't yield to the people who claim that using cheat codes and strat guides is "cheating" -- because, who knows, they could be using them anyway (methinks thou protest too much").
Learning to play a strategy game the best you can isn't "cheating", it's just good sense. So if you want to use a strat guide then use it; if you don't, don't; but don't let anyone bully you or put you down, regardless of your choice.
omg that was inspiring!! lol thanks for the advice. It was helpful. But now what I need to know is if the guide is based on really the DS version or if it's really for the 360/PS3. I have the DS, and although it's the same game, is the guide really for you know, the consoles?
getting a strategy guide for a strategy game just seems like cheating...
O really I mean it would be helpful to DS players a bit b/c there's no civilopedia I guess but i dont know I would think that a strategy guide for a strategy game would be better than a strategy guide for a game like Legend of Zelda for example. With an RPG it would say like a poster above me near the top, kill this, do that, than get the treasure. Whereas a strategy guide would just be giving helpful tips. But that's just my opinion I could be wrong.
Wait just a min. Where at any time did I say buy a guide what cheating? Read it again. I just said I don't use them cuz I like the fun of learning myself. Hell I have been stuck on parts in a game before and looked it up for a hint. But to say I was telling anyone that it is wronge is not right. Maybe you should reread the post before you run your mouth!
dsmatt I couldn't tell you if it work for DS. I would think it would but can't say for sure. I am sure if you look it up online then it should tell you. I hope you didn't think I was trying to talk you out of it. Hell I could care less if anyone want;s to use one. I was just telling you a diff. point of view. Good luck if you get one. Hope it works out for you.
I think this is one of the best written strategy guides I have seen in a long time. It does cover the DS version. It shows the minor differences between the versions, like resource icons and such. Since the DS, 360, and PS3 versions are identical, the guide covers all of them. You can get the guide from Amazon for 11 bucks.
Well done shugnixx for finally giving the guy an answer, instead of all the others with their self-opiniated, off-topic remarks.
Thanks you guys for all the info,
Just for the record I was NOT offended by anyone's opinions, because everyone's entitled to one. Personally I think that a guide for a game like this is different then a guide for a game like an RPG. But anyhow, glad it does cover the DS version. Thanks!
First, there's no way anyone can call the guide cheating, since all it does is offers up helpful hints, and more importantly gives you the information on techs, Wonders, units, etc... right at your fingertips rather than having to keep referring to the civlopedia (though I have no idea why they left out the tech tree!?!?). Yes, it gives general strategic concepts, but learning strategy and reading exactly how to beat something are two totally different things. If you're going to go in the opposite direction, then the entire strategy forum should be filled with spoiler warnings.
As for whether or not it's worth it, it depends on what you want it for. It is filled mostly with information that can be found in the civlopedia. But since it's in a neat, convenient form it's pretty handy to have around for reference while playing.
As for using it for the DS, everything referenced in it is the exact same on all versions of the game (aside from the bugs... :-) ). There is one page that refers to graphical differences found between the two, and lets the DS owners understand what is being depicted using the 360/PS3 graphics. But it's not something you need to be concerned about. I use the guide for both versions, and it helps elevate you from "noob" status so you can at least put up a fight in an online competition without embarassing yourself. The reality of it is, it just helps out enough to get you going, and after that it's all about playing the game over and over to learn all the nuances and your own personal gameplaying style. :-)
Hope that helps! Good luck!
People like this are the reason we have forums. =) Thanks for your advice.
The main reason I wanted it was because I dont own a 360 or a PS3, only a Wii, so I have no Civilopedia to look up things. For me, there's always somthing I'm curious about. =) Thanks for being honest about the guide, I THINK I'm a pretty good player. (hehe =) ) Well I actually dont know as usually on the DS games I've played people have left and then once I didget a game goin except I was separate from the human opponents and stuck with an AI and then I guess something interfeared so I lost connection =P lol., But, yeah, the main reason I wanted it was for the Civilopedia. (And I guess there's always some room for some tips =) ).
Thanks again for your advice!
Yeah, it does a great job of filling in for the civlopedia. But like I said, the big thing it's missing seems to be a tech tree. I mean, that should've been a no-brainer. But I noticed that the CivFanatic forums have someone who put one together that turned out perfect. So if you need it, just get a printout there! :-)
Try Target. I believe they have it for around thirteen dollars. Or use a Borders coupon if you have one near you. That'll knock it down to around eleven.
