another CivRev Noob here

I just got the game yesterday and I have 2 major issues

1)I am always getting a domination victory by 1000AD, I never get to all the High-Tech stuff, the longest I have ever made it is 1532AD

2)Palaces should not give 50% Defence. I was Germany and In a war with India. so I send wave after wave of Legions and horsemen at his capital city only to be obliterated by the Army of archers with a Palace and Great General inside. I Cant even kill 1 archer with anything. not even other archers.
Yes, I know there is supposed to be a challenge but this is just stupid

1. turn up the difficulty level or dont go for domination. there are 3 other victory types to go for.
2.try to get a tech advantage if you are having trouble taking a city. dont worry. you will get better and the game will get easier.

well, I beat japan in the space race on king, so im proud of myself
