Thread: Bx, BS, BioShock, or Other

    BX?

Why is everyone shortening BioShock as BX? Shouldn't it be BS?

I don't understand, where the hell did this X come from.

Bx sounds so much better than BS. Do you really want to called Bioshock BS every time you talk about it?

It is called BX because BS can mean something else and when you say BS you usually think somebody is using the other term instead of having it as Bioshock.

Bx sounds really wierd and it's the name of some company (I googled it one time, since I was wondering where it came from...)... People should just type or say Bioshock, it's not exactly hard =/ The X has absolutely no purpose from what I can tell, BX sounds like whatever B stands for and cross. BioCross? I think not -.-

When I hear BX, I think of either a motorcross company or a pharmaceuticals corporation. I'll just say BioShock since I type on a keyboard for a living.

You think fanboys could ever say "BS" while speaking of BioShock? Not likely, so some clever sausage made up Bx because they thought it sounds uber.

I'm surprised that you guys haven't learned that you can put an "X" where ever you want! It doesn't have to make sense, it just makes it that more XTREME! Plus, you never know what kind of crazy lingo the forum users can come up with!

It is what it is, BX is simply because the ex sound is close enough to es that X can replace S since BS, obviously, is also slang for Bull ☺☺☺☺. No real fan of Bioshock would walk around and confuse people with saying BS. I really haven't even seen it used here that much.

Whenever a poster is pressed for time yet wants to get their thoughts in, they may use shorthand. vDog had coined Bx ages ago as an acceptable shortform that bypasses the BS shortform which already has a use in a forum that restricts vulgar language.

I don't see a problem with it, as obviously people catch onto it, and it plays on the Rx shortform used in medical prescriptions. If you don't like it, well, to put it frank, get a life and find something else to not like.

^ gonna have to agree with Raveness on that one.

There's a thread somewhere (i couldn't find it easily via search function) where the entire thing was discussed in full. We went over ideas and thought Bx was most suiting because you can't called Bioshock BS cause it's not ☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺, and it does play off of the whole Rx idea. It stuck, get used to it.

They have a card name named BS and people don't seem to have any trouble calling it that. May as well call Bioshock Bios or BShock if you're really scared about calling a game BS... Heck, most people would be more interested since they'd first think you're talking about the card game, then learn it's a computer game.

    Yup. ^^
And I believe it's official. I've even seen Kotaku using it. OR was it somewhere else? I can't remember.

Listen to all the newcomers complaining about something that was worked out almost since this forum started. Get over it. If you are so disturbed by the use of Bx, then feel free to type it out. It's like going to somebody's house and complaining about the color scheme or the furniture. Good grief!

Ha, I just assumed it was because BioShock was a single word and didn't have an acceptable shortform (as BS was clearly not suitable). And what happens when you don't have another letter to use? You add an 'x'. Kind of like the way the three-letter code for the Los Angeles airport is LAX.

    Exactly.
No one's forcing you to use it, it's just the communitys way of abbreiviating it.
Don't like it, don't use it. Because of that thought, this thread fails.

Have you fully grasped the inanities that visit this place frequently? School is out, you know what that means

But isn't it your job to make sure that things like this don't go untreated?

  23. #23
I still say it's weird. Maybe we could do a reinactment of the war; people who type Bx vs. people who type Bioshock, because typing things out is too painful and wasteful, and not fully typing out Bioshock is heretical. And in the end, we'll all be adam-hungry splicers who have forgotten what the words mean in the first place

If someone actually gets offended by someone referring to its actual initials, you've got to grow up a little. Seems the developer is at fault rather than whoever wants to call it BS, if it's that important.

I type Bioshock. This game is too great to disgrace it with a shortend name like any of those.

BioShock, those who don't take the time to spell it out correctly are witches who must be burned.

BioShock, obviously. If I write a post, that means I'm not in hurry and that means I can write full name. And if not BioShock then BS. I've always been saying that Bx means nothing and makes absolutely no sense to me.

  40. #40
yeah but BS also works for ☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺... and in fact it's used for that. I think it will be named Bshock if it is shortened at all... Usually, games that have more than one word are abreviated (like UT), but not with one... ahhrrgg, this is stupid.
