    Smart unit selling

I guess many of you know this, but I never though of it since I've never gone for Economic victory. But I know that many of the players won't know this and if this piece of information is already mentioned in some thread, then it will be too hard to find for them. Also, we should create a general thread with all these tips.

Basically, some civs have bonuses where you get half price units. There is also the Military Complex that gives this. Now this means you can build these units for less hammers. For example, say that your city produces 20 hammers. You are building Riflemen. As for example England, this will generate 1 rifleman each turn. As Zulu in Modern Era, this will generate 2 riflemen every turn.

Now the nice thing is that regardless of how many hammers you used to build your unit, you can sell it for as much gold as it costs to make them. This means that in this case England could get 20 gold each turn by selling the generated rifleman, while the Zulu gets 40 gold each turn. I played as Zulu in my last Deity match and when I was rushing for the end of my victory I wondered, why am I really creating caravans and selling them? Then I tried out the rifleman thing and voila, more gold. This is particularly good in cities with lots of production.

EDIT: Would just like to add that you have to calculate yourself if its worth it or not because if you have lots of population in your city you may gain even more gold by moving everyone into the city instead and gaining trade from that. This would most likely be better if you have great person generating more gold in that city.

    I sell my own units:
    1. To get fast to 100 gold (not my best warrior by the way), also caravans and spies which i find on the map because they are easy to capture and not really effective early on.
    2. Outdated units such as arches in industrial age: replace them for newer ones, it is best to first built the new ones and than selling the archers
    3. Selling units to get gold to rush units or buildings somewhere else: For example my home city is under attack and almost lost but i can save it by rushing on extra pikeman to get that pikeman army.. i need money.. money of selling units in cities which are not potentially under attack for upcoming 15 turns.

i'm all for recylcing threads to reduce redundancy, but did u go to the first page and reply to posts that are 5 months old?????

there's like seven threads that u replied to that were from when the game just came out or was still in demo.

oh, and i guess to not spam: i concur with your comments. selling units is good to get when needed for short term goals, otherwise i like to go bother other players and put units in choke points or on their worker's squares.
