Thread: Favorite Song In Rapture?

    Cool Favorite Song In Rapture?

Guys, whats your fav track in rapture?

Mine is Papa Loves Mambo (Perry Como). I found it playing in the middle of the game and you can save a sister while this is playing in the background. It just seemed to fit with the game. Anyone else think this?

    Music

I don't know the names of some of the music, but in general the violin was done so well and added such a creepy and foreboding tone throughout the game. There are few games I know of that put extraordinary effort into using music for atmosphere. Yet another great quality of Bioshock

There are two that particularly stand out, the first in Fort Frolic when doing Cohen's Masterpiece, halfway through he goes mad and sends a load of Splicers to attack you and plays a piece of classical music in the background, it just fits the whole thing so well and when I played it through a second time I cranked up the volume.
The other is when you are searching for Lot 192 right near the end of the game, you find a radio playing Danny Boy by Mario Lanza, its one of many points in the game where I realised I was playing something very special indeed.

I cant chose just one, i love em all. However I particuarly like Cohen's Masterpiece, Papa Loves Mambo, Beyond the Sea - Django Reinhardt, If I Didn't Care - The Inkspots and Bei Mir Bist Du Schon - Andrews Sisters

and of course Tchaikovski's Walts of the Flowers in Fort Frolic. Perfect for the splicer fight

Same. You picked some great ones. Loved the violin version of Beyond the Sea (The one by Reinhardt <3). Makes my heart flutter and I can't wait to step into the Bathysphere when I hear it.

You took all of mine. Reinhardt's stuff is great though, sent me on a LimeWire spree after I found out who most of the licensed tracks were from

It was PERFECT for that splicer fight, yeah... I've heard a lot of people saying how they tried to time their wrench swings and whatnot to the music. Much props to the geniuses at 2K for that one

On a side note, Bei Mir Bist Du Schon is spreading like wildfire among my idiots- er, friends who've played this. Anytime I call any of them I hear someone at least humming it in the background. Not that I can blame anyone, it's catchy...

  9. I love Cohen's Masterpiece - hearing the full length version of it makes me hear how insane it is.

I also adore most other tracks on the BioShock soundtrack.

However, for the jukeboxes, I have to say the one that stands out most is 'How Much is that Doggy in the Window?' 'If I didn't care' is another one that I like.

I love "Papa Loves Mambo", not only it's a great track, but it's a happy, uplifting one, and gives great contrast to your surroundings.

I'd love to see "Maybe" by The Ink Spots - yes, the Fallout song, it kicks ass.

I love "If I didn't care" by the Inkspots. Its creepy to hear the splicers singing along with it when its playing.

    If I Didn't Care - The Inkspots
since the day i watched the first gameplay trailer that song haunted me

also, Bing Crosby's "Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams" and Cole Porter's "You're the Top"

also also, Sander Cohen and the Waltz of The Flowers.. my god, i will never forget that moment

and offcourse the original soundtrack was great aswell, the more i replay the game the more i appreciate it and really realise how good it actually is

would be nice to have had it all in the special edition box btw, wouldn't have mind paying that lil bit extra for it

I love all of the songs, but these are my ultimate favourites:

Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams - Bing Crosby
Beyond the Sea - Django Reinhardt
    If I Didn't Care - The Inkspots
Bei Mir Bist Du Schon - Andrews Sisters
Tchaikovski - Walts of the Flowers

    and Cohen's Masterpiece.

"Somewhere Beyond the Sea," you mean? Yeah, I like that version the best. It's better with vocals.

I always thought it was "beneath the sea" not beyond. Oh well.
I also like the instrumental version of 'Beyond The Sea'. I think its called 'La Mer'.

"If I Didn't Care"....I think it was done by the Inkspots originally but I could be wrong. It is so "period"...then again...all the music in this game fits perfectly IMO.

This game continues to shine as a gem among games. There have been few games in the past 2 years that (again..IMO) have even come close to the entire experience that Bioshock gives us.

I don't know the name of the song, but the song that greatly stood out to me was the one playing in the Kashmir restaurant. Though it isn't creepy in itself, it seemed really foreboding and reflective of the atmosphere in that first area.

Edit: "If I Didn't Care" is apparently the song name.

I always did love the song Beyond the sea by Bobby Darin. It just matches the game and Rapture so well.

"Beyond the sea" (1959) and "Your the Top" (1934) and "Papa Loves Mambo" (1954)

A speical mention for Billie Holidays "God Bless The Child" (1952) which is a blues song played in Medical Pavilion. Because of it's bluesy melody, it adds such creepiness to the level...great choice of song for that level. Also it is heard later when you are in those rooms with all of the little sisters.

Your The Top - Cole Porters huge hit in '34..I include lyrics here

EDIT: Here is a quality recording of the song. This YouTube video features a 20's actress or something while the song is playing, but it is the only high quality original recording on YouTube.

Papa Loves Mambo - Although Perry Como already had hits from the 40's, it was this one from '54 that shot him to the top. Here he is performing it on his own tv show in 1954...

    And the recorded version...

Beyond The Sea - Bobby Darrins big hit from the late 50's...

God Bless The Child - Billie Holiday was known as "the queen of the blues"...this was one of her biggest hits.

No problem. You may want to look at the post again, I edited it and added a few facts, plus lyrics to "Your the Top".

Yeah, I'm a sucker for Perry Como.

But "Cohen's Masterpiece" has to be my favorite.

    Song

Any of the songs that were played at moments in the game where either u had to fight, or at freaky parts of the game. The music that played when Sander Cohan revealed himself was pretty cool to

All of the period music was really great because it was very happy, upbeat music. It gave the impression of this former Utopian society before its decline and was a great counterpoint to the current state of things in Rapture.

As for the other music in the game, I havn't really noticed it. I'll have to start the game over and pay attention to the music and other details.

On a side note, my favorite soundtrack in a game to date is the soundtrack from Alice, which was composed by Chris Vrenna of Nine Inch Nails. I pulled the sound track for that game out of the install directory and used it to make an absolutely kick@ss soundtrack to go with the haunted house I used to do in my garage for Halloween every year.

I love the music when you get in the first bathysphere and see Rapture for the first time. And the music when you enter the lighthouse. I think that's beyond the sea.
