installation, university networks and patch downloads

I recently bought the game, started installing, and got to the thingy where the installation starts downloading "patches/vital program information". Unfortunatly, that's where it stops. In general, I have a pretty good university internet connection, it let me use most of the functions of the internet (apart from the stuff they can get in trouble with themselves). Only it seems the port needed to download the patch is blocked.

Even more unfortunatly, uni internet acces is all I'm getting at the moment, since going home won't do much good (where there is no connection, whatsoever).

What can I do to get this game working?

Port 28900 must be open for the autopatcher to work. If you are behind a firewall on your University network can you contact an administrator to open the port (maybe temporarily) for you? If your machine is a laptop, can you bring it to a connection that isn't firewalled? The autopatcher is required for the installer as some critical files needed to run the game are not included on the DVD and must be downloaded.

Edit: See this: Post for instructions to test to see if the port is closed or not.

    thanks for the quick reply

System admins around here aren't known to do such things - however, I'll just wait 'till I can get to some friends at home who aren't behind uni firewalls.
