    Getting nervous

With all this talk of people launching nukes and achieving culture/economic victories before 1000AD, I am wondering if all multiplayer games will turn into pop factory races? Anyone else getting a bit worried by the seeming imbalance in the game?

No, because they are doing it in single player and on Chieften. The easiest difficulty is basically sandbox mode.

indeed. against humans who know how to protect against this, you'll never get away with such an unprotected city, and what you go up against will be much more devious.

my PR guru is amazing at domination victories, but i know how to defend and then take him out with culture. so many ways to win in MP. :-)

Yeah, I don't think there is much need to worry when we are talking about people playing against the AI on Chieftan, where the AI hardly takes any initiative.
If you have Civ 4, play on Settler difficulty, you can go very fast there too.

Yeah I think Firaxis did a brilliant job with this game I just wait to play as America(lol)! Seriously though I think this is one of the best games I have ever played it's so balanced and accessable I am getting everyone I know that enjoys good gaming to get this! I have yet to play MP though is it fun?

Actually in Civ4 you go faster on harder difficulties because AIs keep up with you on Tech and you can tech trade your way to space. Or something like that.

But yea, the settler pop factories will not work very well in the real game. You really need the bonuses of Cheiftan to even make viable.

i usually play on emperor, and i'll have to carve out some time tomorrow to try out the settler pop factory on that difficulty, but i think that using more conventional means of building your cities up is way more efficient.

i could be wrong, though, so i'll have to test it. pesky "work" keeps getting in my way!

What bonuses do you get in Cheiftan that make this more viable?

the fastest times for the tech/diplo wins in Civ4 are all on the Settler difficulty level, because you can completely ignore the AI and not worry about it taking any of the decent/good city sites, or worrying about defense.
