    PS3 Multiplayer vs 360

Alright, I know it has been discussed, but the PS3 multiplayer in the demo simply is not working right.

Just curious are 360 owners having the same problem.....screen stuck at evaluating games, cant get a match, etc....

    Thanks!

Oh my god! I'm having the same issue! I had it on the "Evaluating Game..." screen for an hour! Then I decided to give up and try again in a few hours. That times approaching, so I probably won't be here for much longer. For those of you who downloaded the demo for the 360, in your opinion, how is the multiplayer for it?

On the first few days I was very successful at connecting online. I haven't tried until now which I get this statement "failure to connect with host. Since I connected to games before either the other person is behind a firewall or something wrong with the server. ( i wonder if that was that you krcm0209)
I doubt there are many who trying to play multiplayer so these "evaluating games" probably continue until there someone else enters. I try a few more minutes to see if it connects.

yeah i just tried, got right in for the first time, got booted by the host, now i am back to evaluating games....just make me a @#% host!

I believe you have to wait until there is someone else to connect to. Most are now jumping in and back out.

someone has to be a host to get a game to jump into right?

so why wont it just make us a host instead of evaluating games for an hour?

I really don't know how they got it worked out with the demo. Surely there will be a lobby room with the full game.

I believe that when you go into multiplayer, the system tries to hook you up with an equally ranked player. I have no idea why it would be this way in the demo however, but I didn't make the game, did I? I think that we should just keep our hopes up and stay persistent at multiplayer. Soon enough we'll get in.

What rank? Is there a rank with the demo? My guess would be the demo probably tries to hook you up with someone with a good ping. (thus in the same area you live in) I just played someone name sober99 but he quit around 200 bc. ( I don't like starting area with the new map) The demo seems to play at "King" level in multiplayer since you get no " easy level" combat bonus.

Just played someone else who must have not defended his capital. ( was capture 1600 BC) Since multplayer seems to be on "King" AI will quickly capture any undefended city.

When I played this weekend, we were both Egypt and about 10 turns in I see a message saying that Thebes was captured by the Romans. My first reaction was "How the f*** did they just take my city?!" and then I realized that it was my opponents city that had been taken. Needless to say, that multiplayer game did not last long.

It doesn't show an option for a lobby in the menu, so I don't believe it will be in the full game. At least not in the ps3 version, I don't know about the 360 version. It sure would be nice though, don't know why they wouldn't include it.. The multiplayer when I can actually get in a game works great, but it's rare that I can get into a game.. I don't know if gamespy is just wonky with setting up games or if just not many are playing multiplayer right now with the demo. I'd like to hear how others are doing with getting into games and the difference between 360 and ps3..

well the only problem I've heard about MP on the 360 is people complaining about their opponents quitting when they start to lose.

There seems to be enough people wanting to play the CivRev demo in multiplayer on the 360 that I've not heard anyone complain about not being able to play MP. It might also be that GameSpy hasn't finished preparing for supporting CivRev online yet? Dont' know if that's an issue, but I'd be willing to bet(knowing GameSpy's reputation among gamers) that the PS3 multiplayer will always have some kind of issue because of the fact that it has to be routed through GameSpy servers.

"It doesn't show an option for a lobby in the menu, so I don't believe it will be in the full game."

how about the "custom match" option.

  20. #20
Any issues you have with multiplayer are due to the lack of options in the demo.

Don't worry, the full version has custom game and player matching, along with friend invites and all that other stuff.

Thanks. Good to know. I found the "quick match" option isn't necessary "quick".

Hi all.. I am new to CivRev and have really benefitted a lot from this forum.. So I also had problems with multiplayer in PS3 before reading about the multiplayer being broken in another thread and the ports that needs to be opened for gamespy arcade to communicate effectively with PS3.I opened those ports and MP seems to be working fine as of now .. I have not played too many games .. but whenever I have tried I have connected pretty fast .. Never hosted a game though ..

Am glad that the AI in CivRev is very good - Don't fancy playing Civ online because I know most'd quit in middle of game when losing.

I dont like playing multiplayer on a map everyone knows already, because I put a lot of effort into exploring. I have only played 1 MP match because the MP in the demo is simply not very fun due to all the limitations. I think there are quite a few people like me, but when the game is released I will almost only play online.
