Each week? People have said that they've played four new maps. Though I got the demo on Friday and only seen two myself... (the second started on sunday, so it would make sense).
Are these demo maps the same as the GOTW releases that it's unlocking, and is it possible to play the previous map?
Thanks for the update though.
It's using the Game of the Week algorithm to determine what map is being played, so for the demo, you will not be able to return to a previous map.
Ah, that will mean that we will be GOTW maps every sunday, that sounds good to me... though it only gives me sunday and the following saturday to do my best on them... ah well...
bigden, I know I've asked this before, but is it not even the tinest bit possible to sometime in the future, make the GOTW maps downloadable? (maybe a small file where the the game checks the number on the file as opposed to on the servers - and possibly allows saving - in essence they'd become additional scenarios after the week in which they featured is over.).
Agreed. It sounds really trivial, but its important to many players, including myself.
That settles it thenThere is one problem with GOTW then, if you want to call a guy best at civ. I've noticed that the resources are random and not static with the algorithm. This means that the game map will be different every playing round. Not that I care much, but it should be the exact same map if you want to have a fair competition. I will play online on random maps anyway!
They are the same if you pick the same leader and same difficulty. On Warlord with Rome there is always that nice city spot with plains, marble and oak trees. Its a fricken production BEAST with a granary.
With GotW, every single element will be exactly the same, down to the resources.
I think you can go back to a previous/the first map if you are online...it gives you a notice when you try to start and it cannot connect to your network profile
y not get the actual game and then get a new map everytime you play????![]()
Great, that means the guide I wrote up isnt going to work anymore. I've mastered the map were the egyptains are just a few tiles awayfrom the Aztecs.
What day of the week does the new GOTW map come.......I've forgotten when I played the second map for the first time
The maps will come out every Sunday.Umm... we ARE playing the GOTW maps. The resources DO appear in the same place. Try playing the demo again a few times, and you'll notice the resources are ALWAYS in the same place. All of us have found that to be the case, how can you not![]()
In this case the GOTW algorithm could be a problem: I have no console but received confirmation from an XBox 360 player that the demo offers other maps after adjusting the system clock. If these maps would be the GOTW maps then anybody could play those maps weeks in advance for optimized results.
In a competitive environment GOTW maps should be secret until their official release. I thought Firaxis would publish a secret GOTW map seed number each week on the official website or something like that. GOTW map seed numbers based on the system date would be easily exploitable. Or is this just the case with the demo version?

From the looks of things the demo version IS playing the GOTW games, which would mean that if I go home, change the date, I should essentially be able to play any map I so please... it could essentially mean that I can play the maps even after the week is over... and on yhe PS3 changing the date isn't a big problem![]()
Quick question, is the Demo for Civ Revolution available on the European PSN?
Resources do change. The first time I noticed was on the original demo map, where there's a mountain in the middle of the central landmass that sometimes, but not always, had gems. So, since bigden kindly confirmed for us that the GotW will always have the same resources, clearly the demo maps aren't exactly like the GotW.
As far as being able to play the GotW ahead of time, I assume that the GotW maps will be generated based on a server timestamp, while the demo maps are generated based on a console timestamp. That seems to be the most consistent with what Firaxis has said and what we've seen so far.
Guys, Ive been reading this forum about game of the week maps and how they change and some people setting their time forward but i dont get it?
Can someone explain this to me... When you go online isnt it a random generated map and not always the same or is it going to have the same map for the whole week and then next week change it?
Guess the new maps really do come out on sundays. Got a new map today, it's one main island in the general shape of an elongated C, the Romans starting at the bottom middle, the Egyptians starting out at the upper right. Gotta play it a few more times to be able to get the economic/cultural wins hehe, seems tougher than the last map.
I got it too, notice how the aztecs are on an island by themselves, i hated that but i managed to land an invasion force on the north and south ends and got my Dom victory ^^
ever single time i play the demo i play the same map idk if it is just me but ever one been saying that they have played on 4 different maps o.0
