What game would you recommend while waiting for Mafia 2?

    Hi!

I'm not a video games nerd or anything. I only have one console and it's Playstation UNO. lmao. so yeah, you get the idea.. I've had "Mafia" years ago and it became my favorite game of all time. I've played GTA san andreas before and I stopped in the middle of it. I got bored very fast and I thought the missions were getting pointless. But when I got Mafia , i was totally hooked by the excellent story, especially when im obsessed with that era. I didn't have much time to play the game so it took me almost a year to finish the game because i used to play it every 3 weeks or so. Anyway, i really got attached and i felt so sad at the end of the game because it was like a journey of 1 year with this amazing game and its story (the sad end).

Hmm, lots of bla bla, anyways, can you recommend a PC game for me to play while waiting for the release of the legendary Mafia 2? I need recommendations related to MAFIA.

Hmm there are not so many games with real mafia (not the GTA kind of gangsters) theme, except for ugly EAs Godfather, but if I were you, I'd choose some movies instead. Original Godfather trilogy is simply great and so are Goodfellas :-)

But yeah, the Godfather game at its best was alright, not one of my favorites.

If you like RPGs, I would recommend Mass Effect.

Call of Duty 4 and Halo 3 for your FPS'.

Nothing compares with Mafia, but if it's atmosphere your after you could always try another game from illusion softworks... Hidden & Dangerous 2.

Hmm, I like(d) all 3 Halo parts: they have a good story (especially 2 and 3) and they also have a good multiplayer.
There are different opinons about Halo, but give it try. I like(d) it very much, and I think it has a good story - not as good as Mafia, but it's good.

Mafia's pretty unique. Maybe try the Hitman series. Mafia's basically my favourite game and I also really love SWAT4, but it's pretty intense.

Kingpin has excellent atmosphere but it's a pretty old game. If you like adventure games, then Exile. If you like Exile play Riven. If you like Riven, play Myst.

The only other games I've kept since giving up gaming are Startopia, Grim Fandango (as long as you use a walkthrough), Neverhood, Pit Droids (may not work with your particular WinXP build) and Zork Grand Inquisitor (as long as you use a walkthrough).

Mafia is basically my idea of what gaming for an older audience should be and I've played a lot of games, and those I've listed here are the ones I'd personally recommend.

Try Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven again. It's pretty fun.
I would recommend Gangsters 2: Vendetta too.

This is what I've played in the last year, PC only:

    - S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
    - BioShock
    - Call of Duty 4
    - NFS: Pro Street
    - Colin McRae: DiRT
    - Medal of Honor: Airborne
    - Race Driver: GRID

From all these, I think I liked most S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and I'm waiting for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky.... and of course Mafia II (and GTA IV for PC).

BioShock is a must have, definitley, it's very close to Mafia II with its narrative, atmosphere and also the time period :-)

And I'll recommend World in Conflict to everyone - yes, it is an RTS, but just another masterpiece of 2008. The story, the graphics, the music, the battles, the multiplayer ... jeez I love this game so much that I have three huge posters of it on the walls around the table

BioShock for me was a flop. I didn't find it even a little entertaining. Very boring actually, for which I am a black sheep it seems.

While you're waiting for Mafia 2 you can play something like it with your friends.
You can hijack a truck or rob something. This will be entertaining for sure.

well game wise, there really aint much as far as Mafia (hell pretty much nothing) so ill recommend some gangster movies instead.

    -Goodfellas (1990) (Martin Scorsese's masterpiece)
-The Godfather Trilogy (1972/74/90) (this is probably 2nd closest out of all the gangster movies i listed in terms of the Mafia game feel to it)
-Road To Perdition (2002) (probably my favorite tom hanks movie, this takes place in the 'old days' to so you will like it since the OP mentioned that in his first post... i consider this movie a masterpiece and this is probably closest to the Mafia game feel out of all the 'gangster movies' i listed to)
    -Casino (1995)
    -Carlito's Way (1993)
-Scarface (1983) (great movie as it's sorta unique from other gangster film but you may or may not like it as it's quite a bit different from stuff like Godfather/Road To Perdition etc)

all of those above i give AT LEAST a 9/10.

there is some others but i think those are the most stand out ones in the genre (im a big gangster movie fan to).

p.s. there really aint been many games as of really new ones that been good... the last one i really liked was GTA4 but besides that it was a good year or two since i played a real good game.... and to this day the ONLY (well pretty much only) reason i bought my xbox360 was for the simulation racing game "Forza Motorsport 2" (i play with all assists off as it makes it more fun/challenging that way) but this probably aint something the OP would care for since racing games are quite a bit different than Mafia

and in general the main game i want BY FAR right now is Mafia 2... in 2nd place is Hitman 5 and then in third is GTA4 (all on PC) (i already played GTA4 on xbox360 and suprizingly i beat the game cause usually i cannot play any shooter games on consoles due to it being to hard to aim at stuff but the new aiming system in GTA4 made it so i could play the game and it was still fun although the PC version will be better cause of the mouses free aim and i can aim quick and accurate.)

so other than those three games there's not much i really care for pretty much.

It is in fact the same on PC.

I agree with the movies, Goodfellas are the inspiration behind Mafia II, so it is a must to see it

What? No one mentioned GTA4 yet?

Well, it's not really out for PC yet, but hey..

Go play it with a friend's X360/PS3, or something.

, well i mean 'at least' cause not everyone could watch 'great films' "at least one time per month" cause of time reasons. so this is why i said 'at least 1 time per year'.

If you're into movies try one of:

    Goodfellas
    The Godfather I, II, III
    Scarface
    Casino
    The Untouchables
    Reservoir Dogs

As for games, if you're into the crime file genre you should widthen your horizon, otherwise you won't like anything else than mafia and godfather (which i suppose you don't ) but:

Grand Theft Auto Vice City, San Andreas
    Mafia (again)
    The Godfather
Reservoir Dogs The Game (but only if you're really desperate)
    Chicago 1930

    You could alsto try:

    Unreal Tournament 3
    Team Fortress 2
    Age of Conan
    Test Drive Unlimited
The Settlers Rise of an Empire
