    army strength???

when you form an army, how many troops can you exactly have? is it like in rise of nations where you can get a hundred people on screen and start a large-scale war?

Three units of the same type form an army.

this game is different than rise of nations. Rise of nations was a spinoff by one of the former makers of Civilization, trying to turn it into an RTS. It was ok, but I enjoy this much more...and this is a TBS.

You can still stack 3 unit armies in one tile. But when fighting you will have to fight one 3-unit army at a time.

So lets say you have 3 units of Warriors and 3 units of Archers. Then you can form two armies since they have the same type. So you get one Warrior army and one Archer army. Now both of these armies can be on the same tile. And when someone attacks, the army with most defense will take the battle, in this case the archers.

EDIT: And yeah, that would make 18 soldiers since you have 9 warriors and 9 archers. For some other units one unit doesnt have 3 men. For example a catapult is just a single catapult.

hm....I think I went overboard in my last game...I founded a roman city in the tutorial map with access to 2 irons in the 9 squares I had access to. I then built a couple production improving buildings and began pumping out 3 legions every 2 turns.

By the end of the demo, I had 12 armies of legions that I used to wipe out Alexander, Shaka, and Monty.

nice as far as army depth i manged to build 5 armies of legions and 3 archers. 3 of them were upgraded to have generals

I just missed out on Leo's workshop, if I had managed to finish it, all my legion's would have been upgraded to Cataphracts

Dang, but that would have been awesome. Cataphracts+Himeji Samurai Castle+chieftain bonus=impossible to stop armies

the game has suprised me that regardless of the loss of micromanagment there seems to be an endless choice in upgrades/enhancments for your armies.

Haha, I let my friend (an old civ player) take a shot. He expanded like mad and he built a city in the same place as you are talking about. I was amazed by the production he was getting out of that place. Then I noticed the two irons :P

heh, I was also lucky...I was first to engineering, and it gave me a free workshop there, giving me 18 production per turn

that was actually my second city though....I expanded there first to get a production powerhouse up.

My third city was founded next to Rome with the fish...after building a library and the Colossus there(and settling a Great Scientist there) I was getting over 60 science per turn from that city

It seems that city specialization is just as important as it was in Civ4...but without the micromanagement needed in Civ4 to get specialization.

Mmm my friend started expanding to the west first since he didnt know the map. I guess the place you speak about is the one a bit south east of rome start position? The first technology bonuses are really awesome btw.

    EDIT:

I just tried the legion army producing tactic. Even though I did not get the nice two iron bonuses, I was able to produce a lot of legions at that location. Ended up with me killing Alexander and Zulu, although I could most likely have taken more if I played better and had better luck with bonuses. Also, the spy is really important when facing armies and I neglected it when I charged Alexander, resulting in a lot of legion armies dead. However getting the Workshop as a free bonus for inventing Construction first in a city with lots of production is just a winner. In the end I assembled some riflemen armies and annihilated Zulu.

You guys playing on warlord or Chieften? I only play Warlord. I always run out of time just as my domination in underway. Iv'e only been able to take out two capitals on Warlord in the time given. But I'm getting better. I haven't used that iron spot yet.

Im playing on Warlord. It is too easy though :/ I know it isnt the full game but its rather easy to crush the enemies by domination

I was playing chieftain, that was my first full time through the game, and I wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing anything by not having the tutorial on...next game I'll probably go on Warlord, and see if I can win by Culture

Have you actually won a domination victory on warlord? I can only get two capitals. Just not enough time! but I have a few ideas. I want to know who has won what VC in the demo and on what difficulty and how. Because I have a full month of this running out of time.

If you manage to pull off any VC in Warlord I want it recorded! Domination is the only viable one I can foresee. Tech race is probably the hardest followed by cultural. Economic maybe if you do no research and throw it all into gold.

I may go back and play Chieften just to compare and see if VC's are possible there.

Tech would be hard, because of the build times. I was able to get all the way to steam power and beyond once with cleopatra (Finding Atlantis helps quite a bit )

No I haven't But what I mean is at the end of the demo, I am leading in all victories. I take that as a sign that I won! I've been able to kill 3 enemies on Chieftain and 2 on Warlord. But I think you can get 3 on Warlord as well.

Egypt on this map is obviously better. I usually get a wheat bonus too so the Irrigation bonus is nice.

    hi

lol come on people get reall demo is too short to kill 1 civ on warlord level and even if you do so its cause of dumb ai.
to get reall production you need culture, growth, cities size at least 5 .
the second thing 1 legion army cant kill 1 archer army that defending city.
need spy or anything to lower the defense or maybe 2 legions .
only if you play full game and if is on king level wich i think it will be multiplayer choice then you will know your reall strenght.

AND FOR ELISABETH I THINK I KNOW WHY JAPAN
CITIES GROW FAST + EARLY TEMPLES THOSE THINGS MAKE NICE AND BIG CITIES WICH LEAD TO GOOD PRODUCTION AND GOOD SCIENCE/ECONOMY.
too bad she dont have ps3 so we can do that match online and even if there is no city starvation by entering city square your culture is gone you cant camp in city forever.

It is possible, I've done it myself And yes its absolutely due to "dumb" AI as you call it. Everything is possible in Civ. Basically, build 3 legions armies and a spy. You should be able to destroy a city with 2 archer armies and no walls. You need to position your cities in a way where you get production close to the enemy, then you can just spam legions and creating armies.
