Awesome! It's great that everything I've been reading about the game seems to be overwhelmingly positive.

Like the article, but thought they released this since IGN got the scope on ERA bonuses. Over all still a good read.

rangers added free to every galley unit
    I wonder what this means?

indeed, but they are not military. they can't attack. i try and put a warrior or legion on board with them, just in case!

Quick question, have you guys posted what all the unit upgrades are and what they do? If not, could we get some insight into that? I'm most curious as to what loyalty does.

    sweet, can't wait.

I plan on playing Russia first and their bonus is loyalty upgrade for defensive units. What does loyalty upgrade do exactly and what classifies a unit as defensive?

    Thanks!

when i play, units fortified in cities who win battles and thusly get upgrades are defensive, and so get defensive bonuses such as loyalty. loyalty raises the defense power of a unit. i don't remember off hand by how much, which is why i need to make you a formal update, but by getting loyalty, your defensive units will be stronger in defending!

    Thank you for the reply.

However, I think I am more confused now! But I am sure when I play the demo it will all make sense.

What is confusing me is the era bonus for Russia that says 'New defensive units receive loyalty.'

In my mind that says when a unit is created it is either an offense class unit or a defensive class.

Does each unit have an attack strength and a defensive strength? Because then I would say that any unit with a higher defensive value then attack value would be classified as a defensive unit and receive loyalty on creation.

I'm probably way out in Right Field. I shall ponder this issue throughout the day.

Loyalty is probably something to the effect of:

    +50% Defense Rating

That's what I got out of Elizabeth's post.

I heard it was something like you said, +50% defense but while in your own territory.

My main confusion is how and when the Russian units get this free upgrade.

They would probably get it for all new units.

As far as I know loyalty is one of the promotions which gives you +50% str while defending on a friendly area. This is what the info center of civrev says at www.civfanatics.com there is also lots of more information gathered together like what the awesome persons do

Oh I sure hope so! With Russia going to be my main Civ (I think it will be my main) it would really be great if all units received loyalty when created.
