    NVIDIA thanks!!! DX10 + AA!!!

With 175.16 (WHQL) you can definetely play Bioshock with DX10 + AA (forcing it from NVIDIA panel)!

    Try to believe!

I post to let you know of it.

Ati users have also had this ability since Catalyst Version 8.3 and onwards, from the Release Notes (can't link directly because of an anti-leech system):

This release of Catalyst™ introduces anti-aliasing support for all Unreal Engine 3.0 based games (running in DirectX 9 mode). Users can enable Anti-Aliasing for titles such as Gears of War and Unreal Tournament 3 by simply enabling Anti-Aliasing within the ATI Catalyst™ Control Center.

This release of Catalyst™ allows users to enable narrow tent and wide tent Anti-Aliasing custom filters while running in the CrossFire™ Super Anti-Aliasing modes, (for DirectX9 applications) providing an improved image quality experience.

But as it says, DX9 only. For Bioshock at least the difference is minimal. Although I play DX10 and like to notice the touches here and there.

With NVIDIA we have had the possibility you mentioned since months... the problem was with DX10 mode and that's why I am thanking NVIDIA.

We can play Bioshock DX10 + AA now, not just DX9 + AA. I don't think it is possible with ATI cards.

Of course the point is not a flame NVIDIA vs ATI, just letting NVIDIA users know of this new possibility!

I don't use AA with my Radeon HD2600XT at all because of performance, across all their products AA is Ati's weakness.

the 2600 is too weak to play with any AA on in the first place.

u dont , dx10 is a program specific option , and not all programs support it

it like say , forcing a direct x 7 game to run in direct x 9 , the game just isnt coded for dx9 therefore it wont utilize it unless it supports it

witch is why ppl are so mad they cant get full functionality out of bioshock with dx10 , because it is coded for it , just has major issues with it , witch can also be attributed to the fact that dx10 itself is very new , and has plenty of bugs of its own

sadly , ima ati fanboy since 3dfx went under , the more cards i bought the more i realized they are full of weaknesses , theyre great for desktop application , video editing , cgi etc , and once nvidia completely focused on 32bit to catch up ,ati has been left in the dust , now , as much as i want an ati card , i just cant have one =/

Has anyone else had trouble with getting AA to work in dx10 bioshock, even with these new drivers? I know the new drivers aer supposed to help this but I cant get it to work any others with this problem?

Mate... if you want to be helped you must be more precise!

Your s.o. (xp 64 or vista 64) and your hardware configuration, driver settings and so on!

I use vista 32 ultimate. 8800gts 512 . driver 175.16 with the game profile forced to use AA. x4 multisampling. version 1.1 of bioshock on steam. OK any other specs?

    Differences from mine:
    - 8800GTX 768MB
    - Vista 64Bit Enterprise
    - Bioshock OUT OF STEAM

    Three questions:
    1) Do NVIDIA drivers when you "tick" "show only installed applications" show Bioshock?

    2) Do you select "exclude all game settings" or "improve" in anti-aliasing settings? ("exclude" is correct). And why did you tell "multi-sampling"? That setting is in "anti-aliasing transparency" that should stay @ "use global settings".

    3) Are you sure your 175.16 drivers are correctly installed? In other words have you uninstalled and cleaned (with Driver Sweeper on Safe Mode) before installing 175.16? A way to check this is in the NVIDIA control panel itself. You have to go to "system propreties" and look at the dll driver versions (they should of course ALL end with 175.16).

Please reply and I'll try to give you more help.

It should have been there (mine is). And what about transparency? "Use global settings"?

yes left it to global setting. I added the .exe file but it still wont apply settings

I think it's because you had to add the .exe... no need here.
