I would suggest Googling (or whatever you're prefered search engine is) for news regarding this.
This isn't the type of thing that would go unnoticed. (be wary of the fanboy!)
Of course the game should support the firmware update (or more specifically the other way around), but I don't think that firmware is the question.
As far as Trophies? I have no idea.

As long as Sony clued in developers about this and gave them the necessary information to implement it, then it's a possibility.

not sure I would believe anything a random user claims to have captured with a cell phone camera...especially if he claims to have access to the PS3 version of Bioshock, which only 2K employees at one or two studios should have access to.
Theres also a difference between enabing that feature is a game that not out for 3-6+ and game out in 11 days
I'll be able to answer this a bit more fully...
Put simply version 2.4 was only sent to developers recentl, which means that it was not in time for Civ Rev to include it right out of the box.
However, it is up to the developers if they want to add support to it via a firmware update since it is possible, however it's not as easy as you'd think. Baring Civ Rev and a few titles releasing soon, all games from now on should have 2D trophies available via the XMB - these trophies are similar to the achievements of the XBOX360.
The developers will NOT be pushed to add the trophy compatibility, so don't expect past games to get them, and any game releasing in the next few days/weeks is more likely to have them via an update.
As for Civ Rev goes, Jason2K has mentioned that they have no intention of adding support for it since they had no idea of how it'll work, however with them now having the capabilities to make it happen, one would hope that they add the 2D trophies... 3D versions wont be as important (for when HOME comes out).

A guess of mine is that the developers connected with 2KGames will be learning about the new trophies in the coming months and since there is already support for achievements in the 360 versions, it should be a simple matter of changing the function calls in that piece of code so that it connects through a PS3 trophy code instead. So what I mean is that since these developers will learn how to implement it, a quick fix for CivRev can be anticipated since they have nothing to lose except a few man-hours after they know how to implement it.
I really want Trophies in Civilization Revolution! It's simply a fantastic game with so much replay value - undoubtedly one of the better games this generation. And it is the perfect game to support Trophies!
The PlayStation 3 version of the game is better than the Xbox 360 version (in my honest opinion) and we want Trophies!

Care to elaborate on why you think the PS3 version is better than the 360 version, considering they're the exact same game when excluding 360's achievements? Well, one could choose the PS3 version because of slighty better textures and improved sound.

While 2K have said for a long time that they won't be adding trophy/music support to the game, a number of other older games (that were saying "no way" too) have since added trophies.
This is setting somewhat of a precedent, and may possibly be enough to sway things in our favor. However, that's far from a certainty, so you shouldn't be disappointed if the existing decision stands.

i do think the last trophy thread got a bit nasty and was closed, so i'll keep this one open. however, please, i remember those of you who talked in the last one, and we don't have to rehash the same stuff again. i understand that you guys want trophies, and we looked at your wishes, but given us balancing additional content and other work, trophies did not make the cut and we will not be adding them to the PS3 version.

If it has already been decided that there will never be any trophy support for PS3 why bother with this discussion? It would have been nice but I guess we'll have to wait for Civ Rev2!
i think its really sad - the lack of the trophy support... and the roundbased offline-mp, as well!

if you missed the last thread on this, i'll re-explain for you. it's not about not wanting to support you guys. we didn't know about trophies until it was too late in our development cycle to add them in, and then we decided that rather than sacrifice something else (like some of the new content) we would not add in trophies. we did think this through, and it was a difficult decision, and yes, i assure you, the dev team knows that the PS3 fanbase loves trophies. anyhow, i do believe from here on out all PS3 games will have trophies, so you are in luck for the future!

I'm afraid you missed the concept. It's not official, but... There won't be any other updates nor DLCs for CivRev anymore. Take the game as it is. Maybe, if there will be a CivRev 2, new functionalities like the hotseat (but I doubt it. It would disrupt the game play to see what the opponent is doing) will be introduced.
