Problems after patch v1.1
Well, the game is working fine at first, after the patch, I cant even see whats past the loading panel, ive finished the game twice before without a single problem. Not only can I not see whats past the loading panel, I cannot see some menus without the game crashing. Im on Vista SP1 Quad Core @ 2.4ghz, 4gb RAM, Nvidia 8800GTS 320MB.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am looking forward to playing this a 3rd time, just more in-depth. Thanks.

Try to run it in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2:
Create a shortcut to Bioshock.exe by right-clicking on a blank spot on your desktop and choosing New then Shortcut. Browse to
"C:\Program Files\2K Games\Bioshock\Builds\Release"
and choose Bioshock.exe. Say ok/finish. Then on the newly created shortcut, right-click and choose Properties. Then under the Compatibility tab, check the "Run this program in compatibility" box and choose to run it as "Windows XP SP2". Apply and click ok then use that shortcut to start Bioshock.
Hope it works.

thanks for the reply but unfortunately, it did not work, same thing happened. I'll try reinstalling

Make sure to use the: Revoke Tool to keep your activations in order!

ah, thanks for that and the speedy reply

You're welcome. Please do post back once you've reinstalled and we'll see how it goes from there!

ok, its been reinstalled and runs just as normal, cornering the sole problem as the patch. I used the worldwide patch to patch bioshock, would you recommend trying the patch again if there may have been some corruption in there?
-
The worldwide patch is the one to use unless you live in Germany. The USK German and English patch only differs in that it is modified to make it past the various censors in those countries. So, you most likely do want the worldwide patch. The path to take next depends on how much you would like to troubleshoot Bioshock. You've already completed it but would like the patch for the new tonics and plasmids. If you do install the 1.1 patch and it breaks again then we can continue to troubleshoot from there. Installing the 1.1 patch again would definately narrow down the issue however, so if you have the time then the decision is up to you!

ok, I shall continue with the troubleshooting, I will keep you posted

ugh, well, that didnt work, same thing is going on with the patch, ill try toggling around with the only settings I can use without the game crashing on menu.
-
Try to force DirectX 9 mode. With the shortcut as created above, right-click on it and choose properties then in the target box add '-dx9' without the quotes and with a space before it so the target looks like this:
"C:\Program Files\2K Games\Bioshock\Builds\Release\Bioshock.exe" -dx9
Then apply and click ok and use that shortcut to start Bioshock.

well, after some hard work, I eventually got it working, turned out one of the settings was causing me strife, thanks a ton for the help and assistance and most importantly, your time

You're very welcome! Enjoy the new tonics and plasmids!
If you'd like, which setting was it? Would be nice to add it to my mental database
