    Question About Borders

    Just a quick question here:

I have noticed in several screenshots that include ocean, that a civs borders do not extend past the coasts. Does this mean that the ocean's are uncontrolled land, and won't count towards anyone's land mass (not that it matters, as there isn't that kind of victory condition anymore). Also, does this mean that there won't be fish/whale/crab resources?

I know I said quick, but I just keep leading myself to more questions, lol.

Along with the fish/whale/crab resources point I made, how do resources work differently in CivRev compared to the PC version?

    Thanks

This looks just like what you have said but if you look closely you can see that there are two coast tiles inside the borders. Still it seems somehow hard to expand your area into the coast squares.

Your culture will spread into ocean squares if you are actually working them.

The relationship between tiles you can work and culture is confusing

In Civ3+4, culture spread out from your city and you could work tiles in your culture.

It seems in Civ Rev, Working Tiles is what puts culture on them... but then culture alone can't limit which tiles you can work, or its circular.

    So is it
    1. There are other methods of getting culture on a tile besides working it
    2. You don't need culture on a tile to work it
    or
    3. Both

Land-based culture spreads exactly like you remember it, stretching out across the land based on the culture-output of each city.

In addition, if you are working a tile near a city, your culture border will spread there because you are working it. Sea-based culture is only present when working a specific tile at sea.

Nice, like in real history where any worked territory worked by a city-state of Sumer was claiming territory "because i occupe it" isn't it ?

So cultural borders do not depend on land-based culture spread alone, but also require you to work tiles? Or are you saying that working a tile will extend your border to it even if you don't have (enough) land-based culture accumulated on that tile?

    Sorry, still a bit confuzzled...

No he is saying that land based, and water based culture works totally different. Land base culture works like it does in other Civ games while the only sea base culture you will have is if you work that tile.

But what is the reason then for that culture? I mean you must have a unit there so no one else can enter that tile anyway. If you look at that screenshot I presume those are fishing boats and there is a blue border telling you that its included in your culture border.

Yeah, it's not clear to me what sea-based culture is useful for...unless there is a ocean tile that is in range of two cities from separate civs? First civ to work the tile "gets" it?
