New Gamespot preview says there are only 3 AI Civs

    http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/stra...;picks;story;7

One concern we have is that the single-player game is only a randomly generated map on which you compete against three other civilizations

They also mentioned coming across only 3 AI Civs in the game they won with the Americans, and the Americans being way overpowered.

I am assuming that there is 4 AI Civs, and this is a mistake on Gamespot's part right. If it is not then the game has taken another big step back.

I will get this game regardless. And I will get civ 5 whenever it comes out. The only reason I bought a pc eons ago was for civ. It's my favorite game of all time

I assume they didn't mean 4, because considering multiplayer only supports up to 4 players, I'd imagine single player isn't much different.

I would prefer more enemies, but either way I think the game is going to be fun.

I'd assume they were mistaken...Elizabeth, Jason, Dawn and all the others have repeatedly said 5 civs play at a time, and GameSpot has a history of typos(and of not fixing them when made aware of them).

@maniacc0: we've been told repeatedly that multiplayer is only 4 player because it always has at least 1 AI playing in a game.

They don't count the barbarians as a civilization, that's my belief. About being overpowered, its too fast to say something like that when they haven't let the game be out for a couple of weeks. Then the people will learn and find out how to play the different civs.

EDIT: It would be strange to count the barbarians as a "competing civ" because they don't work as the other ones which are actually going for different win conditions.

or they were playing the demo, and the demo gives only 4 players at a time, rather than the full 5.

I doubt Elizabeth or Jason were counting the barbs as a 5th civilization either, magwill...I suspect that GameSpot wasn't playing a fully enabled version of the game.

One of two things in My .02

    1. That when playing single player you only get up to for civilizations to play as, but while you get 5 because you can only have 4 XBL people to play against.

    2. This is a Demo they played and with was given only certain things.

*** However this did show lenght of game play, AI logic in defeat, Beautiful graphics and nuclear weapons. Oh my.

  10. Guys, your forgetting this is GameSpot, they are more than prone to blunders...

There are 4 civs availalbe to play AGAINST on the largest map, with another FIFTH civ being your civ. They probably either played on a smaller map, or misinterpreted the information (extremely likely)

Well certainly I believe it is a mistake. Still I am hoping for confirmation to confirm it.

Well that's my bad then .. I've only been following the game for the past week or so since I caught wind of it from a friend. I don't even own a next-gen console yet, but this game is pushing me to get a 360 before CR is launched lol.

    This is insane...

Mayby I played too many strategies games on the pc but...

3 enemies on small maps in a freaking civ game?

    omg.

    Its ridiculous.

And here im trying to get my console friends to start playing civ and you debunk the game until the map size is small and retarded.

yeah its so fun playing civ on a map big as Starcraft maps, well done there, whoever in your company thought console players where retarded and needed tiny maps need to be fired.

Why even play a civ game if its this much debunked?
Small maps, hardly any a.I enemies to play against so whats the point?´
Why even make a console version?

I believe this is an example of the closed-mindedness being exemplified by many people on these forums. Everyone has this mindset that CivRev is supposed to be the exact same as every other Civ game. That's not the point of this game.

The point of this game is to keep old Civ fans interested, yet give them a different look at their game. As well, it's trying to attract the console gamers, who, for the most part, are geared towards fast-paced, action style games. That's why this game was streamlined, at least that's how I see it. It is supposed to look and feel like an entirely new game, yet at the same time there are the links and ties to the original PC version of Civ that longtime fans of the series will recognize.

With all due respect, people need to get their heads out of their a$$es and stop expecting this game to be the exact same as every other Civ game. No offense or anything, and there are a lot of people here who do realize that, however in my short time here I have also noticed a lot of people who do not realize it.

before I answer...will you actually read anything anyone says in response to your uninformed rant?

    1) Gamespot got it wrong, there's 4 AI civs...they probably were playing a toned down version like a demo or something
    2) 5 civs on a map(you and 4 others) isn't that much smaller than a standard Civ1-4 game, which usually has 7 civs.
    3) The game isn't toned down, it is merely streamlined so you can play a faster-paced version of Civ in 3-6 hours.
    4) If you'd read the preview in question, Gamespot did say it is just as fun, just as addictive, and just as strategic as the Civ you are used to and love...just faster.

I bet that the tall of the map is suited for 6 civs like in Civ4's "Small Map"

    1 Human Civ + 4 AI Civs + 1 Barbarian Civ ? No ? I have understood, no ?
