IMO 2K would benefit from delaying launch til after MGS4 and NG2 & to add splitscreen

I may be alone on this as I know many of you are dying to play this game. But I would much rather that 2K delay this game a few months to get splitscreen implemented than release it now when it's overshadowed by NG2 and MGS4.

For some reason, this game is getting zero hype/ news from gaming sites or gaming magazines.

It's been completely over shadowed by Metal Gear Solid 4 and Ninja Gaiden 2 from all the media coverage I've seen.

I am very on top of gaming news, more so than 99% of gamers, and I wouldn't even have realized that a console Civilizations games was coming out if I hadn't noticed the title in a random release date calender two weeks ago

I think 2K needs time to hype this game up.

What better way than to implement split screen play, and invite journalists to show it off. Being able to play with family and friends is very important to console gamers.

Civ for consoles is big news but the first ever strategy game to support local multiplayer since Starcraft 64 a decade ago is very impressive news as well.

The media gets a new story to cover once NG2 and MGS4 launch.

    2K get's it's hype and sales.

The game's sales aren't suppressed by Ninja Gaiden 2 and MGS4.

We the fans get the much sought out local multiplayer so that we can play with family and friends.

IMO, if we're willing to be just slightly patient (make due with playing MGS4 or Ninja Gaiden 2 for a month), we the gamers too will be rewarded with the ability to play Civilization with our family and friends.

Hmm, this isn't a game for the small kids that actually get excited by hypes in newspapers. I think that Civ is that kind of title that at first brings all its fans, and then it creeps up on other players who are wondering what their friends are doing.

They want more people exposed to their game and franchise so that they can sell more copies. That's why they branched out to consoles.

And that's why should enable splitscreen play.

Game devs sell a crap ton of games because so and so had their game at a certain party and multiple people took turns playing it against each other.

Do you think games like Goldeneye, Smash Bros, Tekken or even Halo and COD4 would have sold even half the copies they did if it wasn't for gamers being exposed to these games at a party they were at?

Goldeneye as I recall had many average to crap reviews when it first came out. One magazine even gave it a 4 out of 10!

It sold because people played it at their friends house and realized just how much fun it was. And I bet Goldeneye and Smash Bros sold tons of N64s too, just as Tekken and Twisted Metal sold a ton of PS1s

I have a powerful PC. Most next gen console gamers do.

We just don't enjoy gaming on it. We much prefer playing with our friends and family.

I grew up on games like Street Fighter, Tekken, Twisted Metal, Goldeneye, Smash Bros, Soul Caliber, Halo, Madden, Gears and COD4.

Note how all of those games are multiplayer games popularly played at parties with friends.

We party gamers also enjoy solid single player games like GTA at parties but really enjoy them because with a group of people, even if we have to take turns, we can laugh at all the cop we blow up and cars we jack and crap like that.

Mark my words, split screen Civ Revolutions has the potential to be huge at parties. Nothing more fun than watch two players you know bash each other with a large armies. Then taking turns playing the winner.

I'm sure I'm not the only console gamer that feels that way.

PC and console gamers are very different animals. I wish more game developers realized that.

I agree with you Wik, but look at the games that have shined with little to no coverage like American McGee's: Alice in Wonderland, Beyond Good or Evil, Abe World Games and a few others.

If you want them to delay a game to get more hype up just because of timing. Then that is just telling me I had to wait cause a bunch of people what to play a game I don't have a need to play. I don't own a PS3 and I don't want to play NG2 either.

I would rather be playing Civ Rev out of either two of those games. And if a patch comes out that has split screen in there for more than one player while not on live so be it.

Your points are valid and I personally do not wish another delay in the game. If you want split screen buy two game and two xbox's and set up a lan on two tv's.

    Sorry for my ranting today.

All fantastic high quality games. But all games that didn't sell anywhere near what they deserved to given their quality.

This was in large part due to lack of the party factor mentioned before mentioned, less hardcore gamers being exposed to games by playing them against a friend at a party.

But lack of prerelease hype had to do with it too.

Never the less, you make a very valid point. I would much much much rather they release the game ASAP, but if and only if they can implement splitscreen play via a downloadable patch over Playstation Network.

That would just be a dream come true and a great thing for the devs and for game sales as well.

I want split screen too, but I don't think that delaying the game (means paying developers for more work) will cause enough revenue for them to be interested. And btw, can't you guys start writing large paragraphs? Its pretty troublesome to read all that scattered text. Consult any language teacher :P

How many threads do we need on the same topic? Maybe it's time for more Wii delay threads...

Can a mod lock this thread? This is getting ridiculous. You've already posted one thread dedicated to the split-screen thing, you don't need to post another. You've also posted virtually the same message in several different threads. Stop spamming. While I agree with your points, its becoming very annoying to see the same thing over and over.

    I'm sorry.

My intention for this thread was to discuss whether the game and it's press coverage is being supressed by the hype around MGS4 and NG2 both coming out at roughly the same time.

I was curious if you thought this would supress both media coverage and game sales and if you think delaying the game could help.

The devs using this time to add in splitscreen is just a bonus.

Civ Rev is already coming out a month later than those 2. What else do you want?

There is already a thread about this topic too.

Why should they delay it? Maybe you should just wait till they bring out "Civilization - The Stupid Version".
