in this thread, we can talk about the PS3. all things about it, and about Civilization Revolution. and, of course, any creative ways you think i can help out and give the PS3 more love!

i know that home is coming, and there are some exciting things happening there. i also know that you can make your own themes on the PS3, and was wondering if i were to make a fankit to help you with a Civilization Revolution theme, what you'd want the most in it. right now i'm thinking: background in SD and HD, icons 128x128 (you can resize them if need be) and some sounds.

so anything and everything PS3 -- let's talk about it here!

2K Elizabeth I appreciate the explanations. It does help, sometimes when you don't know the reasons behind certain decisions its pretty easy to get the wrong idea. I was posting that list more of a defense of my previous post, not as a whining post (I've already covered those in different topics).

How about Firaxis releases a theme. Not just a design kit. Also, Civ 2 came out for the PS1. Well the PSP can play PS1 games. Put Civ 2 on the PSN for free download. I for one would love that. Maybe put Railroad Tycoon there too for $5.00 for now, or for free or whatever.(Not that it has to do anything with CivRev, but it's 2K. I'd love that too. Maybe a controller skin.

lets be realistic with requests.

Its more beneficial for the company to release fan "kits," then to spend developer time on things the community will gladly do. I for one very much enjoy creating fansites and the like and would much rather have the tools available to create my OWN then simply a copy of what someone THOUGHT id like.

And no one releases things for free. That being said, releasing any previous civ game over PSN for ANY price below current retail would be magnificent.

HD wallpaper would be a great start.

People that are good creating themes can also change the PS3 XMB sounds, so you might include some short sound clips too. Ideally they would mimic CivRev (i.e. the sound it makes to select something, or back out of a selection, etc.)

Good point, they were just ideas. Railroad Tycoon was released for free on PC though. I'd love to play Civ or Railroad Tycoon on my PSP. Or Railroads! on PS3 one of these days!

i already have stuff in the works for fun PS3 themes... don't make me spoil my surprise! (i already have a little here, but i want you to know we've been planning it already. :-P)

as for "controller skins"... i have looked into this idea. of having skins for the PS3 and the controller itself, but i don't really know how many people like these things. would you actually like a skin (which i kind of think of as a removable sticker) for your PS3 or controller?

Not really, I think that would be kinda cheesy. I don't think the PS3 really has a removable 'faceplate' or anything so its hard to modify the actual console :/

Civ 2 came out for the PSOne, but it was published by Activision, and we don't own the rights to it.

For the same reason we don't own the rights to the SNES version of Civ 1 (that was Koei).

you can't, really. skins are the best option, and i held back on those for just that reason: i don't like making things that aren't really awesome, and i didn't think that was good enough for the community.

other options get pricey really quickly. i've always got a stockpile of shirts and posters and stuff, but that, of course, can be given to anyway.

PS3 customized stuff is pretty hard. The console really isn't meant to do that. I guess the best you could do is to release CivRev stuff with the PS3 logo on it. That would be kinda cool.

faceplate for 360 would be a yes, but i wouldnt stick ANYTHING to my expensive ps3 or controllers.

There's a big difference between 2 days and 5 days. It would just be silly and unnecessarily upset people to do what you suggest.

You Console-ist! Don't be a hater to the 360, we can't help that they had the foresight to make XBL first. When the Demo is released it should be at the same time for both or matter a fact for all 3 platforms. Nintendo just came out with a Demo download thingy for the DS system. I understand the chilly feeling from no console art/tee shirt give aways, but you won the Blueray/HD war, be happy with that.

Its as much up the manufacturers of the console as well as the game producers?

They are referring to the date the demo would be available for download. PSN updates every Thursday, Xbox etc. Once it is there you can play it anytime.

I realised that but if look at when demos "arrive" on they are not limited to a day of the week?

GRID : Thursday
Bourne Conspiracy : Monday
Kung Fu Panda : Thursday
Operation Darkness : Wednesday

On live demos come out on any day. Other things are limited to Tuesday, things like the live arcade games.

I love my PS3.. If I had Bioshock for the PS3 I would never touch my Xbox since it breaks every few months and sounds like a 747 is landing in my living room. Also streaming video via the Windows Media Center is torture yet easy cheezy with my PS3.. I think although young its an amazing piece of hardware.

i don't know when the demo is coming out, and i don't know about how we submit or when we are talking about releasing the demo. i will talk to the team about this, of course, but i do know that sony has a bit longer QA time for demos than microsoft has before it goes live on their system.

Considering that Microsoft has let a few buggy items slip through their Q&A process (I can't comment on how well Sony does in this area), I would say giving it a bit extra time isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I'm not sure making snide remarks about something the developers can do little about is helping very much. It sounds like you're a bit bitter about the way Sony runs their PSN. To be honest, you may have more luck taking up your complaints with them.

that's not at all what i said, and i really hope someday i can get through to you that we really, really don't favor the 360. not everything is sony's fault, at all. i said i do not know what's going on with our demo or it's release dates at all, but chatting with a co-worker, i was told this nugget of information, independent of the demo!

as for the demo fun i'm planning, it's on both PS3 and 360. period. finite. it will be, or i won't do it for either.

Funny thing is I want a PS3, but can't get it yet. But I feel your Pain Bulldog, but you got to look at it this way. At least you don't have a wii and reading this then you would not ever get to play this game.

well, i also want to make clear that i fully understand that we don't have "swag" for the PS3.

i cannot tell you how many times in the past couple months i have sat with a diet coke in the lunch room talking with Dawn (my wonderful partner in crime) about how we can do more things for the PS3. i'm trying! and over time, it will get better.

in the meantime: go write sony and tell them to make a cool removable shell top for their next iteration of the PS3 so i can make it art!

Uhh actually it's quite the opposite. I will tell you what I am "bitter" about. It's the fact that anytime a developer or publisher or whoever, has a problem explaining why certain features (i.e. video/voice chat), release dates, or whatever the case may be, they always rely on the good ol' scapegoat Sony. It's not just limited to 2k either, it's like some companies just out and out hate Sony and PS3 and anyone who bought one. Of course they won't come out and say it, but sometimes actions speak louder than words. I could care less what other people are playing their games on. For myself I prefer the best system, that's why I play on PS3. So by all means play your wii60's or whatever they are. Enjoy your RRODs by all means.

Actually on my 60 gb the "shell" is removable. The part that says PLAYSTATION 3 comes off, you have to push the button in on the bottom. And that would be super awesome.

Playing it on my big TV instead of my monitor would be sweet.
