Thumbs up Let's talk about Civilization Revolution 360 Achievements!

Want to know about the Civilization Revolution achievements?

    The full list is out!

As it says in the post, i'll be giving out prizes to people who find out who said each of the quotes that makes up the names of the achievements. but do try and do more than just use google, and give me some good information about the quote (where did it come from, or when, in addition to who said it.)

Thanks Elizabeth! These look pretty cool.

I looked through some of the quotes, and I could only identify a few of them. Looks like you guys picked out some good ones, though. If I had more free time I'd try to win the contest.

wow...I recognize quite a few of the quotes, but couldn't tell you for sure who said any of them except that We the People is from Thomas Jefferson(first line of the declaration of Independence)

I love the Indiana Jones reference too, I just can't remember who said it...only that it was the bad guy in Raiders of the Lost Ark

    Nice list, thanks Elizabeth.

    Is every achievement a quote?

More or less. There's one that isn't, but the rest are either spoken or written in some form or another.

    Is that vague enough?

    Yes, thanks.

I found a nice story on the 'flower and song' quote from the Aztecs (Montezuma) but it is of quite a length and I do not think it would fit in a post...

Question: does this contest count as we can't participate in to win?

What are the prizes? (I'm guessing the same as the other contest)

And are non XBL-members welcome to participate in this competition.

Maybe this has been asked before but this seems like the appropriate thread for it.

Playstation is getting its "Accomplishments" in the future. I was just wondering if you are saving the data for these currently Achievements on the PS3 version as well. You could also just give PS3 players medals or something for unlocking these. So if you save this information on the PS3 version now, it would be possible to link this to the Playstation Network Accomplishments later when they are available through a patch or similar.

    question for Elizabeth-

will you be retroactively adding in "achievements" for the ps3 when HOME comes out? and if so, will they be different then the 360 achievements?

Edit: wow, Magwill, great minds think alike, sir

Quite funny actually I hope the developers sees this as a divine sign to implement it.

We have no plans to support home at this time.

Were Home already live when we were shipping, we might support it, but it's not going up until really far after us. We could conceivably add support later, but that assumes A) Home comes out any time soon and B) people actually use/like it.

    Thanks!

I wrangled them all together and dug up most of them, but some came from our intrepid game analysts and other people around the office, Elizabeth contributed one, and one actually came from my wife.

Ouch. Is all of Firaxis heavily biased towards the 360?

Understandable. But the key issue would then be that our progress would be saved so we don't have to redo the things once Home is out (I'm not saying it's boring to keep playing the game, would just be nice to get a overview of the things you've managed through your gaming experience).

It's just a plain statement of fact. If the service is unused then devoting resources to developing a system to take advantage of it would be a waste.

Not at all. I've said here before that we're totally platform agnostic.

But Home is a very strange concept, and personally I'm extremely skeptical of it.

From a developer standpoint, it's a lot more work to support Home than 360 achievements. With achievements, all you have to do is provide a text file and some icons, With home, you have to create 3D assets for everything. It's a lot of work, and not something we're going to agree to until there's some indication that people actually intend to use the thing.

  23. #23
    i intend to use it!

no, but the reasons you gave are totally valid. i *DO* hope that it comes out in 09, and is well received, and that civ rev will retroactively add content to take advantage of it.

until then, i will have civ rev for 360, so ;p

    Ok, that makes sense.

I apologize for the console-bias-paranoia, but its just a combination of a few things that lead to that:
    • No PS3 competition prizes
    • Lack of video chat support for PS3 (I believe there was a nice big debate theard about that a few weeks ago)
    • 2K employees having 360s at workplace and not PS3
    • Lack of faith/support for Home

Given, some of this is Sony's fault. But its not too hard to see how one would think that Firaxis might be biased, right?

But back on topic, I'm assuming everyone is elgible for this competition, correct? I am looking forward to any future competitions as well.

i assure you, firaxis and 2K are platform agnostic. there were definitely challenges that we explained already about the camera, and well, home's not out yet!

as for the woot prize being a 360, i simply decided to make it a 360 so i could throw in a faceplate that i had, and some other fun stuff. the prizing there also has a lot of other stuff -- a lithograph, and some great money. this isn't a corporate decision, it was one made by me, and only me. i pick out the prizing for community stuff, and i assure you, it's not out of a dislike of the PS3.

and i also want to say that i think of the three of us active here (Dawn, Jason, myself) i am the only one to NOT have a PS3 in the home, and if you want to buy me one, please do (i also need a bigger TV if you want to add that to your amazon.com wishlist!) i do have a PS3 in the office, we have oodles of them -- both dev kits and retail versions -- and i can play PS3 to my heart's content here. again, it's not about liking or disliking a console, and definitely not a company-wide thing (so many people have all consoles here) -- it's just a fact of my personal pocketbook.

as for jason being skeptical towards home, he's just being honest with you guys, since, well, you're kind of like family.

Edit: oh and finally, yes, anyone can send me quotes. i don't know what i'll give away... tee shirts, faceplates (if you have a PS3 i won't send you a faceplate!) this is just an impromptu, fun thing for the forums.

Thanks for the kind words. Yeah these contests are fun, plus we might learn a thing or two. Some of the quotes I know, others are hard!

Just wanted to add, all of the media (i.e. screenshots) have been 360, recently DS, no PS3.

All of the contest prizes have been 360 related or a t-shirt.

This contest is based on 360 achievements. With 360 related prizes or a t-shirt.

Not trying to complain, but rather point out reasons why members of this forum who are PS3 users are feeling shafted.

    hey guys,

i totally understand what you are saying about the PS3, and want to talk to you more about it. so i made a thread for it here: http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/sho...191#post280191

let's keep this thread about 360 achievements.

    thanks!

EDIT: Deleted to help keep on topic.

I'm liking a lot of those quotes. This is like a mini history lesson. Civ always has taught me more about world history than any class I've ever taken.

Why win with Power when you can win by greed or by Technology?

    I must say...

Capcom have already started putting 'Entitlements' in their games in preparation for when HOME is released [ SOURCE ] so why can't 2K add them from the start - generally these Entitlements are the same as the XBOX360's versions Achievements, so it's not like you'd have to do double the work in thinking up names and what the 'Entitlements' have to be.

And just to add, Devil May Cry 4 also came with Entitlements, and when you activated one, you got a message saying so [ SOURCE ].

i like the "Good Afternoon, Dr. Jones." One of my fav. movies of all time, i love it . As the the overall achievments, i PMed a couple of answers to you, like 5 or 6, is that enough for a prize, or do i have to get every one?

I just wanted to add to this that the PS3 is heavily rumored to have 2dimensional trophies as part of the XMB in the 2.4 version update due out in June. I understand the developer concerns regarding HOME and the extra effort designing 3d trophies for it. But if this (widely reported from various sources) rumor does indeed prove to be true, it would be nice to see CivRev have the save acheivements for each console.
