I just wonder if there's going to be a demo before the final release? And, somehow, more important if it will be possible to pre-order Mafia II. What do you think, guys? Do you know something?

I don´t know, how is it in your country, but here, in the Czech rep. is possible to pre-order now. But I don´t think, that there´ll be demo-it´s not usuall in this genre of games.
Already?!?!?!And you pre-ordered it?!?!?
About the demo, yeah it's not something usual to this genre, but Mafia had one and why not Mafia II too? Releasing a demo has it's pluses and minuses, of course, and it's better to launch it before the final game it's released. This way some gamers probably will change their minds and won't buy anymore the game but it's fair because I hate when you buy a game and then realise it's not worthy, I mean it's not fair to play with people's money, and then a demo might change opinions for some other gamers and convince them that the game it's on their taste and some might become die-hard fans because of a demo, but mostly I think it's a better thing than a bad one releasing a demo.
Sure, I´m for demos, too, as you wrote, you can change your meaning of the game, you can try it and decide. And, yeah, I have pre-ordered from first possible day. Prices are 55 USD / 35 EUR for PC version and 103 USD / 67 EUR for PS3 and XBOX 360 versions. It´good, isn´t it?![]()
Thanks a lot!![]()
BTW, what's with those prices?I mean the price for console is much bigger than for PCs! Marketing?!?!?
PC= 55USD / 35EUR
PS3=103USD / 67EUR
From 55USD to 103USD and from 35EUR to 67EUR it's a lot!
Edit: If you pre-ordered the game you will receive it the day it's launched, right?
I don't know too much about pre-ordering, I never pre-ordered something, that's why I'm questioning you!

Normally when you pre-order you are supposed to get it on release day so they ship it before.
I remember when I pre-ordered "Operation Flashpoint" they shipped it before and I actually had the game 3 days before the release date![]()
I haven`t pre-ordered it yet, I am still hoping there might be a collectors\limited edition so I am waiting until we know for sure before I place my pre-order.
Hey, I just searched for some sites where you can pre-order Mafia II and I found on Amazon.com the XboX version at 59,99USD and says "This item will be released on October 31, 2008."!!!!!!!!! Then, somewhere below "Product Details, Release Date: October 31, 2008"![]()

I think I'm going nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well it is natural that some retailers would have it as a 2008 release because when the game was confirmed in august 2007 during the Leipzig games convention they gave a "during 2008" release comment.
In my experience it is also common to give a date at the first or last day of the month when the release date is not officially confirmed.
I think it is just a "place-holder" until the official word comes out.
Play.com has the release date marked at the 26 dec for example.

You´re right - price and release date isn´t confirmed yet. We must wait. (I hope, that not too long)
You're right, I exagerated a little and I didn't fall for that in most part, but I just thought for a moment that these stores know something that we don't! I mean I find a little (more) weird to put on sale a product that you don't know when it's going to be released; of course, nobody is pointing your head with a gun to pre-order something you don't know when it's going to be released but I don't like this marketing strategy of these stores. Make a product available for pre-ordering at least when you have a date release confirmed officially. What are these stores, another banks??!?
as far as release date of Oct 2008 etc.... i think it's all speculation cause im not 'expecting' it to be out in 2008.... im expecting the game to be out in early half of 2009.
cause i would EASILY rather wait for a 'quality' game vs have them release it in 2008 and be semi-half as*ed lol
cause if it's out in anytime in 2008 ill be happy but i aint expecting it.
A demo would be quite good, but the game itself won't be realised till half of 2008, so we can all chill I reckon.
I do not think there demo. And if you're a fan of Mafia you bought it without thinking
Actually I think I'm going to buy 2 copies: the standard copy, and the Collector's Edition!!! A demo I think it's going to bring more pluses than minuses, especially bringing new fans. There are out there gamers that don't buy a game until they don't know for sure what's with it, this meaning playing a demo or playing the actuall game somewhere. I used to be like this, you know!

Because consoles are dirt cheap i'd imagine there. So hell, why not.
Hello I too wish that we show the demo
My guess is that they will release a demo, but maybe after the final game is out.
Most demos released before has a "this does not represent the quality of the final product" statment on them and even if most players know this it can still contribute to loss of sales.
I say release the game, then give out a 100% smooth demo.
I`m "biased" in the sence that I will get it anyway, and due to that reason alone I will not play a demo if it comes out before the release, don`t want to spoil any of the fun, but thats just me.
I don't know why a demo can't be smooth before the game will be completed ? Demo can be made from a mission which they already completed development for, and therefore this mission (and demo) would be smooth, as for this part of game it is like the complete game was already fully developed.
Well I only said that I don't need a demo before the game release because I don't want to see like only 1% of the game, like a teaser. I want, and I can wait for the full game, and then who wants to buy the game but it's unsure of weather he will like it or not may play the demo that's beeing released after the full game.
Hope you understand me![]()
Hehe I'm waiting for this game mainly becouse of cars, so I want to get to them the fastest I can![]()
Mostly me too, the cars and the all stuff related to cars means a lot to me, that's why I want to have a circuit and to be able to race there, but it's not only the cars, the other parts are very important too, and their combination made me choose Mafia as my favourite game EVER.
Forgetting one thing. It's a Mafia game, enough said.... the first one had a racing part in it, the second one won't, there really is no point.
I'm wondering if mafia will have some ties with the trade unions....there was a major strike on the railway in the early 1950's for example...maybe we'll get to make people cotinue it or make them stop. Or maybe they'll take the strikes in the auto industry, which occured around '46 or '47 if I remember correctly..can you imagine being sent to a factory and be able to see a row of car bodies sitting on a stopped transmission line ?![]()

"aaahh......security!" lol
I hope they will release a demo.
That would be a great opportunity to get some important input from the players.
I remember there was a demo of first Mafia.
It was just one mission (one of the best) which contained a cut scene, drive through a small part of city and shooting at grade-level parking lot.
So I think it's possible to be released.
But I hope it will be released earlier than a full game, or the game will be released earlier than we expact.
I think that giving us a little taste of what the game is about would be such an awesome thing, however I do not really know how when Demos are realeased and crap like that.
I want there to be a demo first, BADLY. I am already unsure if I want a single-player only game and to pay $60USD for it....
posted twice, by mistake.
i dont want a demo it would spoil the game.
Not if the demo would be like the "tutorial" from Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven. If that would have been the demo, it wouldn't have spoiled anything. It would just give an opportunity to get used to the controls etc. After all, if the game is finished, the devs could easily make a very small map like the one in the "tutorial"... I'm just saying it's possible and it doesn't have to spoil anything.
