you may have seen that there has been a change to Civilization Revolution's release date.

Are these tournaments going to be for both the PS3 and 360 ?
Are you adding extra features to the game ?
Is North America getting features that Europe/UK won't ?

As Australia usually gets the US version of games. Will this put our release date back or is it still in line with Europe. Also the DS was not mentioned in the European release, is that still June 6th.

in june i intend to organize multiplayer tournaments with the demo, have contests, giveaways, and other fun stuff (probably centered around this forum) to keep you guys busy!

North America? That's where I live! I like gifts-withs-purchases.
Please to be explaining the multiplayer demo with these tournaments. Should we expect online play with the demo? Is there a taste of single player mode?
Will all North American customers get a gift? If not I'd feel real bad for the ones who had to wait a month to get nothing.
Will there be skirmish in the demo along with multiplayer?
If we buy the European copy in June, will it work with a PS3 in the US?
With my experience with console games, yes, but you need to look for PAL instead of NTSC... but I don't know how the PS3 reader works, 95% chance it is the same... look it up.
details on the demo will come soon, as well as the tournaments, but i'll just say that i think you'll be very pleased with the demo.
i don't know the details of what/where/who will have these gifts-with-purchase. when it's confirmed, i'll let you all know so you can plan!
Not that I'm questioning Firaxis' marketing campaign or anything, but wont this scheme result in 95% of people being unhappy?
People not in North America will get the game on time but will be unhappy that they dont get to partake in the tournament or potentially get prizes.
People in North America might get gifts (seems like everyone in North America should get one if we are waiting an extra month), but at the same time have to wait an additional month.
Perhaps I see it this just because I'm a pessimist
Regardless, the tournament sounds pretty interesting and it is good to see that Firaxis is taking steps towards establishing a strong multiplayer backing. Too often do game developers just toss in a multiplayer and hope it blossoms.
i want to say that this is not part of any marketing campaign. i actually don't like the delay just as much as you -- and am honestly bummed that i won't get my hands on the game for another month. i, too, am dying to get the achievements and play online with my friends.
the heart of the matter is that we decided to give the DS version extra time so that it could be polished and perfect. and different countries and territories deal with how they like to release games differently, and in north america, simultaneous releases are very important, so we're waiting for the DS to be ready.
but since i hate to wait, and we're going to have a demo out anyway, i'm going to do my best to make contests, giveaways, and tournaments through the demo so that those who are waiting still have fun with the game.

Ok, that makes more sense. I interpreted the earlier posts as if the only reason the game was being delayed was to incorporate a tournament of sorts.
While I think simultaneous releases are silly (especially with a handheld and full console), this makes a lot more sense. Thanks a lot for the clarification! I think I speak for all of us here, we truly appreciate your interactions with the gaming community to keep us up-to-date and as informed as possible.

yes, we would never delay a game for something like a tournament. i'm running the tournament because of the delay -- as a little diversion as we all wait!

An on-time but bug-laden and gimped game is no fun. I'd rather the game arrive late, but full-featured and oozing with polish and care.
I'm a little confused so I'm just going to ask straight out: I live in New Jersey, what is the earliest date when I will be able to go into a game store and buy civ rev?
From what I read the only version that's getting the treatment you're speaking of is the DS version. That's the whole reason the rest of us have to wait another month. And they also stated they aren't using the time to add extra features.
you'll find the game starting July 8th in New Jersey.
the DS version is the one we are spending this extra time on -- but that's not to say the 360 or PS3 versions are inferior, because they aren't. i'm sure you already know that each platform has its own unique challenges during development, and since each had its own separate team, the DS one simply developed differently, warranting this extra time.

i dno but i know there is no offline hotseat
there won't be split screen mode. you can play multiplayer either over a LAN or online through both the 360 and PS3. multiplayer modes include head-to-head, 2 vs 2, or free for all.I am very happy to see a demo, not happy about the delay, but what can you do right?

on the DS, the same modes apply, and you can play online or with other people in the same room who have Civilization Revolution on their DS.
