    Free-Roam or Linear?

    Hi,

I'm new around here, but played Mafia for a long time!!

    But here my question:

Since they've been talking about saving on serveral places instead of one, is Mafia 2 Free-roam, like The Godfather, or the same as Mafia, playing a mission, saving and the next mission begins..?

    Thanks in Advance.

I like the system is in Mafia as well. Make it lineair. Between some missions there should be some room for free-roam, but not between every mission. It's just not fun.

    Hi, welcome to the forums!

Quite hard to answer your question, it is still unclear ... but it's confirmed that while it has some free-roam features, it's still a linear, story driven game. But thats in general, there is still no word about save system or things like this. While I'm personally not expecting something like GTA: San Andreas type of "save-houses" for Mafia II, there might be a "break" between missions when you can take a car and explore the city/spend your money .

yop..i think we could enjoy few freeworlds features after mission is completed, like in M1 the Bertone's sidequest and if someone wants to have fun in gta-style he easily could start play ride mod...

Yeah. I'm actually dreading that they go GTA on this and have Free roam. What made Mafia great was that the missions where Tommy's story. So if you DIED you had a viable reason for restarting the mission. GTA is ridiculous. I get blown up and survive. *rolls eyes* I now, it's a game, but Mafia II does not need to be reduced to crap because the developers feel "this" or "that" just to keep up with other games.

Mafia is a serious interactive cinematic story experience. GTA is not serious at all (GTA4 might be, but not in the past). Mafia was an amazing game and does not need to be influenced by GTA or Godfather features. (Although I will say CJ's ability to climb over walls, and the GTA4 guys ability to smash car windows sound good). But keep single player linear, and keep Free roam as a separate feature. PLEASE.

    /incoherent rant

Nicely put. It's way more realistic when you die, you actually die rather than, end up in hospital . Mafia for me eats GTA alive, and craps it out, but hey it's just my opinion, I still love GTA.

thats another thing that i loved in Mafia and i hope they keep it the same
way in the sequel ... not only it is real fun to have the free roam it also adds
a huge amount of Value to the game itself ... so linear + free-roam ...

Although I liked how was the first game made, I prefer free-roam.
