The first thing you should do is install Service Pack 1 *before* anything else. On a clean system the chances of it succeeding are much greater than a system thats been in use for a while. And if it is going to fail again I'm sure you'd much rather find out right away instead of a few months from now which would put you right back into the same situation. You just will have to install Service Pack 1 sometime so now with a clean install it is the time to bite the bullet. (Service Pack 1 has 551 fixes by the way so you really do want it).
