    Driving in Alan Wake

The gameworld of Alan Wake has been stated as being 36 square miles (10 x 10 kilometres).

Petri Järvilehto on driving in Alan Wake: "Driving is an integral part of the game"

I'm personally hoping it's going to have a faithfully simulated driving model, with a first-person perspective from the driving seat (basically a driver's eye view).

What are everybody on the 2k forums thoughts and feelings about the driving in Alan Wake?

    Thumbs up Alan Wake

The game does look amazing indeed.

For the driving, i think ive seen a screenshot where its a 3rd person view just like GTA default cam...

I agree with you on the driving, but in this picture it appears to be third person. It is a long way to release so it could change though.

Alan Wake is a title I'm looking forward to. Twin Peaks was a great show, and I've heard it takes after that Washington state eerie mystery.

I prefer the first-person driving style that Far Cry & Halflife 2 had. I doubt they'll be outfitted with mounted guns, but I did catch this steel beast, which seems oddly contrasting to the area:

While I don't mind FPS (first person steering) ala HL2, 3rd person gives you much better situational awareness. If you're at risk of getting shot or run off the road it's the better way to go.

i'm really looking forward to the driving part in alan wake, since stalker dropped it completely (hope it'll be fun though )... if it would be 1st person, then it would be even better

    I simply love this game.
The style of the main character, the weather effects, just the whole setting. It's awesome. I hope, it's more like (a linuar) Max Payne and not like a "country GTA".

First Person Driving should be it.
So you can have effective car horror-scenes. From somebody/thing suddenly jumping out of the bushes in front of the car, to... Well... Scratching on the roof and other stuff like that.
True, third person driving makes it easier. But first-person puts you... Well... Behind the wheel.

The light in that shot is incredible, I'm really looking forward to this game. I really hope they get the driving model right.

Drivings great, I would like a good simulation but also the option for something simpler, depending on my play mood. Plus, I would love it if the cars were a bit rusty, down and out, maybe you have to get gas, etc.

Be great making a break for the lighthouse in your car and its running out of gas, then the hooded guys come up on you,

As long as the driving physics aren't overblown I'm okay with that. I hadn't even thought about the driving in AW to be honest. I'm more interested in the mystery, atmosphere, characters, etc. But now that you mention it a driving model similar to Mafia would be good.

I would prefer third-person driving. I usually select that option in games whenever possible, but I think it's mostly because I don't have a wheel.

I think that driving in Alan Wake will be really like in GTA, but I want first-person driving, because this wont ruin the atmosphere like mad gta-driving.

I really hope not. The GTA driving model is awful. From what I've seen of the driving in the Alan Wake trailer, it looks like it could be pretty sophisticated— at least sophisticated enough to be fun.

I'm really hoping for a first person head-cam type viewpoint also, driver's eye-view, with dashboards if possible.

Yeah, you are right. In a horror game with a brillian atmosphere player will drive like a drunken monkey, ruining houses and hedges.

    lol

Absolutely— I think if it's anything like GTA's driving I probably won't be able to keep the car on the road.

And first-player driving will save the atmosphere and unite the gamer with the main hero.

the driving should be at least like in BF1942... it think it's fairly decent there and no too arcade-like.

I'm hoping it's not going to be any worse than Mafia's driving model.

Just as long as it's better than Starsky and Hutch. That's not hard, tho'.
