    Goodbye from 2K Greg!

    Hey civ fans,

Today is my last day at 2K Games. I've been a community manager here for over two years, but the time has come for me to move on to other ventures. I have very much enjoyed being your liaison to the devs, and getting to be the one to tease and reveal lots of details about Civilization V over this time. I can honestly say that Civilization is my favorite game franchise of all time, and it's one of the primary reasons I ended up getting in to the games industry.

You guys are in very good hands with 2K David, Tom (who handles a lot of the behind the scenes stuff, even if you don't see him here), and Mar (who just started and will introduce himself very soon)!

Also, while this is a goodbye from 2K Greg, it's not actually a goodbye from me. I am still a Civ fan after all, so I'll be using my personal handle, OverloadUT, from here on out.

Thanks for being an awesome community guys.

    Miserable ? I am awesome

But I like that you feel compelled to answer all my posts, I love having fans. But what is the problem you have now ? I always said I thought Greg was doing a poor job as community manager, being happy that he leaves is only consistent with my opinion. Or should I be hypocrite and say I will miss him ?

Yes, sure, I will miss threads like this where he asked the community for feedback and then never ever bothered to answer back. Or his standard answer to all questions: "I will look into that and get back to you", and then of course he never would. Or the Steam FAQ, that took him months to write, and still has huge mistakes. I could go on and on but you get the idea.

Edit: by the way I may have opinions that you disagree with but I never insulted anyone and never called someone "miserable" because of an opinion on a computer games forum. If you disagree with the contents of my posts feel free to reply or argue, I have often changed my mind and understood I was wrong after reading someone else's post. But I would appreciate if you keep the personal insults out, you don't know me.

stethnorun echoed my thoughts perfectly but as much as I wanted to let your comment go I couldn't.

It really saddens me that people like you feel it's OK to write such crap. It's always easy to be tough on the internet. I'm sure if 2KGreg was standing right in front of you you wouldn't be so disrespectful.

These few lines that I wrote are way more than your comments deserve. Write what you want in response, I'm done.

I was not disrespectful, I didn't insult him or anything. In fact I don't know him, how could I respect or disrespect someone that I don't know at all ? I am just saying what I have always said, that he hasn't done a good job on this forum. In what world you live where you can't tolerate any criticism of your job ?

If I was standing in front of him I would say the same, and I am sure he would be ok, it's impossible to please everyone and there will always be someone who doesn't like how you do your job.

Why write if you don't want to hear what other people have to say ? Doesn't make much sense to me.

Really ? You were not "disrespectful" ? Nah, you were just saying what you're thinking right ?
God in what damn world we live in ? Think the internet has totally altered someone's personality and way of judging and perceiving others. No, really, someone's saying goodbye and someone else replies with "glad you are leaving", and apparently to him it's normal, an ok attitude.

Where are you coming from ? And if someone doesn't agree with how you behave you answer him with "people can't handle criticism" ? That's your answer to everything, "criticism", think if you are being a "critique" you are allowed to say everything you want, and people should just accept it or otherwise what ?

If you want to be critique then say in a friendly way what you didn't like about that person, and offer some advince on how to change.

It seems to me YOU can't handle criticism yourself. And no, what you did isn't called criticism, it's called being rude, being a ☺☺☺☺ing prick.
If you don't like someone then don't post. If someone says goodbye and I wasn't friend with him then I wouldn't replay to him.

And I also doubt that you would say in front of him the same thing, unless you are a spoilt prick that doesn't know how to behave properly in a society or you are an emotionless psychopat.

P.S: Sorry, but I hope you can handle my "criticism".

Well you wrote an argument instead of resorting to personal insult. Kudos. But really I can handle everything that anyone can write to me on a forum. And who can't, really ? Of course I prefer when the discussion is constructive, but I understand that sometimes people can't keep their cool.

Nah, he knows I don't like how he does his job, I sent him a few PMs in the last months expressing my discontent.

    Wow, you are seriously butthurt.
Wow, I'm butthurt now ? Why ? Because I didn't agree with you and I dared to say it ? It's just criticism, remember ?

Nah, he knows I don't like how he does his job, I sent him a few PMs in the last months expressing my discontent.
Looks to me you are the butthurt one, if you are that desperate about a game, that you have to PM a dude just to tell him that he doesn't do his job "right", because he doesn't tell me what I want to hear.

And by the way just getting out of context things that I wrote just to prove me your right it's pathetic.

lietkynes, you win the internets. I know it's a great honor precisely because the stakes are so small. One kind of learning is called "manners." You, obviously, need a remedial course in them.

Criticism is not insult. As I said, feel free to insult me but I prefer a civil discussion. If your post is so lacking in contents that you have to resort to insults than it looks to me that you are a little butthurt If you look at my posts history you will see that I never insulted anyone.

    Of course I am !

If you read my posts you will see that I always write in a "direct" way. I don't moderate myself. There have been times that I was so pissed off that I came to the forum and wrote a post that I can only classify as a mad rant. If I read it now I laugh at it and I recognize it's pathetic. BUT it's how I felt at the moment, and I decided to let it go as it was.

Fact is, posts like that are laughed at by most of the other users and look like the rants of a madman. But if 2K guys are smart, they don't see it like that, they see it as valuable feedback ! A guy that is so pissed off at a game (a game!) that he takes the time to go on the forums and write a passionate angry post is a madman to most users, but in 2K's eyes it's precious feedback from a frustrated user. It's an opportunity to ask themselves: did we do something to anger this user ? Is there a part of the player base that is not satisfied ? Can we do something to improve ?

Greg was mostly useless on this board, BUT he was smart enough to see that. If I write an angry post about how an incompetent corporate-ass-licker he is, you can be sure that he knows very well that I am just ranting and he will try to understand the real reason why I am pissed off and bring that feedback to the company.

Again, you may disagree with all of this, you can say that I am rude, an ☺☺☺☺☺☺☺, a prick and whatever you called me, it's fine to me.

I don't write on this forum to prove a point or win arguments. I am interested in giving honest feedback to the company (regardless of how rude it seems) and in discussing with other people about the games I like.

About manners: they are very important in real life, I agree with you, to maintain relationships and because usually the people who talk to are people you know and they give importance to what you say. But on the internet I take substance over form any day, I don't care for courtesy, I want to know what you have to say.

lietkynes is obviously a little fragile. Lets all take a moment and feel for this obviously tortured soul. That so much malignant and insubstantiated b.s. could come out of one internet-mouth is both shocking and saddening. That Greg had to deal with multiple of his 'PM's' over the last little while cannot but make me feel for Greg, and whoever takes over the position he leaves vacant.

Public relations isn't a fun job regardless of who you work for, and I think Greg did a pretty darn good job of it. He didn't always have very much news, or exactly what we wanted to hear -- but he was always polite, respectful, and normally quite frank. He admitted when he/the company was wrong, and these are all difficult things to do when you are the corporate mouthpiece to hundreds/thousands of clients.

lietkynes needs to get some perspective, and for his own sake, a life. The brand of vehemence he has displayed so shamelessly has no place on forums for a game, much less a game of 'Civilization' (one would hope some degree of 'civility' could be maintained after all...).

Note: the internet is not some kind of mythical abstraction from 'real life.' We would all appreciate it if you were to stop acting like a child and not 'abstract' your manners and common sense of decency from your discussions on these forums. Thanks.

It's not even the point. Wisdom is not something you take on or off like clothing. When given anonymity (or alcohol), people show their true selves. Even if he puts up a facade around people in real life, this miserable person is who he really is. It's not his style that bothers me, it's his substance.

Finally a post I can agree with. You don't like what I say, I can understand that. I also disagree with almost all your posts if it makes you feel better.

But the irony of people complaining that I was rude while in the very same post they were throwing personal insults left and right, lol. I see how much they care for manners.

Sorry, were you being addressed in that post? No, you were being talked about as an example of how not to be. Your emotional immaturity flows from the very constructs you choose to employ with language. Until you utter a complete and honest "sorry for being a prick Greg" you will forever be persona non grata in my own eyes.

@lietkynes I think that this is about manners rather than something else. You could have said something along these lines: good luck Greg, I hope that the new guys will be [more motivated]...or that this signals a 2K policy shift.

I guess that people wouldn't be so upset if you took the effort to be more courteous. After all you've got to recognise that Greg always had good intentions and the lack of information was not his fault.

You said, let me quote here, that I needed a course in manners. So let me ask you a question: saying "I am glad you are leaving" is bad manners, but calling someone "emotionless psychopat", "miserable", "prick" is not ? Please elaborate because I don't follow.

Also what happened to 'don't feed the troll' ? Not only you are the king of double standards, you also have trouble to follow your own suggestions it seems
