The patch kills my game. Why?

My game works fine ever since I got it, and on high res.

I DL'd the new patch from the Cult Of Rapture site. I installed it, but every 10% or so, it stopped and I would get an error message about "file not found" or some such thing. I would just hit "continue" and it would install another 10% and then stop, I would get the message again, and so on. Finally it was 100% installed.

I start my game, I pick a level, the load screen comes on, and sticks! It stuck on the load screen! I had to unload the game and re-install it without the patch and start all over again.

Question: How can I install the patch and get my game to work? Thanks

    Xp / win 32
    Pentium D 3.0 gig
    ATi X 1950 XTX 512 MB
    2 gig system RAM

When you first ran the patch, did you use the default location the patch wants to install it too? I just puts it in a c: directory, you need to hit change or no, and it will pick the right directory. I did not pay attention to that, and when I started the game after that it would just crash. I reran the patch, and got the right directory for the install location, and everything ran fine after that.

Last week when I DL'd it, I just let it install itself. I just keep clicking ok..I think the error message was trying to tell me it could not locate the proper folder..butI have not moved the BioShock folder from my "program files", so I didn't know why it couldnt find it.

I could try again, but if it doesnt work, is there a way to remove the patch so I dont have to do a clean reinstall and lose all my save games?

I love Bioshock and am enjoying romping thru it a 3rd time now (just got past Fort Frolic). I'm learning new ways to use the enviorment against my enemies...ways I didn't even think of the first two times through. So I guess I can live without Sonic Boom or the walk-mode if I have to...it's better than losing all my save games again

Yes its in \bioshock. When you cancel the first option, it will pick the right one. You can rerun the patch and not reinstall the whole game, that is what I had to do. You will not loose any data that way.

    ***Double Post Alert***

Got the patch and it works fine!

Appearantly, I had DL'd the wrong patch...I had the "censored version" patch, but my game is un-censored. That's why it didn't work.

Ok, I love walk mode and I use it a lot...espicially when walking into unknown situations, or sometimes when I want to enjoy the eye candy of Rapture, when looking out of the glass. Big thumbs up to Ken Levine and the team for that feature!

Sonic Boom is cool, but I didn't get the 9 second "movie" Mabey it was because I started at Fort Frolic, and all that is offered at that point is "Sonic Boom 2". Mabey if I go to a gatheres garden...say in Neptunes Bounty, I may be offered the Sonic Boom 1, and then get the movie. *hopes* Anyone know?

Anyway, thanks for everyones help it is appreciated!
