Exclamation Update About The Bioshock Pc Patch And Announcement About DLC!

BIOSHOCK PC PATCH, XBOX 360 TITLE UPDATE AND FREE DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT COMING

Many of you have been asking me about the status of the BioShock PC Patch and Xbox 360 Title Update, and I have some good news for you.

Both the BioShock PC Patch and the 360 Title Update will be available next week. In additon to these fixes, we will be releasing downloadable content free on both Xbox Live and for the PC, with the DLC bundled into the PC Patch. A full list of bug fixes and everything included in the DLC will be put up on the Cult of Rapture when the downloads become available.

Wouldn't it now be an appropriate time to say that the patch release is "imminent" Elizabeth? just kidding, I'm glad to see that you guys[and gals ] are finally are able to say that we will have the download HOPEFULLY by next week.

I wish we could get the list now of what was changed with the patch so we can have something to look forward to while waiting. But I guess that really doesn't matter.

    Thanks for the info Elizabeth!

HURRAY!! Now we have a new reason to play Bioshock some more. The new level of difficultly without vita-chamber (making the bioshock difficulty comparable to System Shock 2) that I wrote a thread about RIGHT after the game was released has been answered. Proof that the developers actually listen to us here.

    Thanks for the news Elizabeth!!!

Yes! Yes! Yes! I've been waiting for the patch before starting my 2nd play through. I had too many crashes and so lost a bit of immersion due to that. Also the game was a bit easy (somewhat due to having to quick save so often). I had almost given up and was about to play through again anyway this weekend. I will gladly wait a week and hopefully not be disappointed. I’m happy to find out that we are getting a patch. I was scared due to 2k’s recent financials.

Hurrah, hurrah and thrice hurrah. I do hope they fix the capped physics frame rate bodge tho, too much to ask maybe?

I've played the game 3 times without a problem minus one crash ... I feel like a fat bored kid now I want BioShock 2 now ...

  10. #10
Well I don't think I had any crashing problems (maybe I was lucky), I was just waiting for it to be tweaked before playing it again (only finished it once).

I don't want to sound greedy or get ahead of myself, but... is the a second batch of DLC planned?

I mean at least as far as the 360 goes, the devs still have another 150 GS up their digital sleeves.

Of course I'd also be happy to hear the dev's were work on their next title.

    Finally. FINALLY!!! At last
Hope the patch is worth the wait. And also hope it didn't come this late just because of the bundled DLC content...

Any news on the editor for Bioshock ?

I have to commend 2K for the fact that they are throwing in free DLC for Biohsock. I am sure this was originally in the plans to be something customers would have to pay for. Well done!

P.S Elizabeth, is Ken Levine really that annoying to work with? I have read multiple articles lately that employees of 2K vowed to never work with the man again and he won't be on the Biohsock 2 team.

Don't care about DLC, I just wanted the game patched and working as expected. Hopefully the patch won't reveal more problems (or cause new ones).

Glad it wasn't just vapourware afterall.

    If:

FOV, MOUSE CONTROL and SOUND'S CUTTING OUT are 'fixed' then I will actually finish the game.

    if:

Anim/physics frame rates are now uncapped, vita chambers can be switched off ,and all crashes are fixed then I may even play it through again and go easier on judging it. Now I know Vita's are in the patch but if the anim frame rates are still low it just feels 'weak' so won't have much incentive to replay.

I think too much time has passed to say 'thankyou' for a patch but I will say 'at least you got your **** sorted out'. Oh what about the DRM thing?

  17. #17
I wonder if the widescreen FOV will be fixed in the 360 update? Any word Liz ?

Too much time cannot go by to disallow being polite.

Thanks, 2K! I really hope this fixes my sound issues!

My BioShock played perfectly the whole way through. I don't need a patch that might ruin that. I wish I could download the extra Bioshock content separately from a patch.

    Peace

Politeness went out of the window the day 2k implied that technically aware people who were concerned about the Field Of View 'problem' were 'stupid to want it fixed' as it was 'by design' (even though every other UE3 game showed the same trait; albeit with better default settings than Bioshock).

And that's in relation to Ken Levines answer on the issue on some gaming site about how he 'laughed' and didn't think it was a problem but 'whatever'.

Also it's polite to tell people before they install a game that they will be infesting their system plus have LIMITED installs, I treat people/companies with the respect that they treat me.

Excellent, I was going to play through the game again (after CoD4 and OB), now I have even more incentive to do so!

No hints at all about the DLC tho?

One can gather by the plasmid.ini file a few possibilities. I'll be very surprised if Sonic Boom isn't in.

I remember Ken talking about FBA (Full Body Awareness) being made available in DLC.
I wish and hope it was this one... but I know it won't be. This is mot likely just new plasmids, tonics and tools.

It is stupid. 2K made a design choice. I'm not sure why they agreed to fix a "problem" that didn't actually exist. It's a little like screaming daily for a patch because you don't like the color of the dresses the Little Sisters wear, or because you wish they hadn't gone with the Art Deco theme.

I kind of figured they were bundling something big in with the patch (I thought it might be an activation/SecuROM removal or somesuch), but DLC is much more attractive to me.

I've got the same fear as Xerxes, though. I hate to patch a game that's been running flawlessly for me just to get the DLC. I guess I'll have to cross my fingers.

Liz said the DLC was "bundled". My wish would be they just rar the dlc with the patch exe, instead of the DLC being tied to the patch. Because like a few of you, my game has had no problems. Now, if they somehow fixed the waving corpses, it's patch city for me.

It's plausible that you have to have the patch fix the problems in order for the new content to work. Even if your stuff works just fine it could have the chance that only downloading the new content would in turn make more bugs. So both are necessary and should both be bundled together.

That's a great idea bout the dresses. Hey Elizabeth! Does the patch change the colour of the dresses the little sisters wear? Jerri and I don't like them. And as he suggests, perhaps we could go with a new theme for Rapture, perhaps something more... post-modern?

Thanks! Oh and don't worry about the widescreen problem... Jerri says it doesn't matter anymore!

First everybody was saying 2k were stupid and sucks balls and everything like that. Now that they say a patch will be released everybody starts to love 2k as a magic.
And it is not the worst. The worst thing is that the other people who didnt have problems are just complaining that they wanted the DLC thing without any damn patch and they forgot that the damn DLC just came because of the patch and all these f... issues.. so selfish. if you have any fear about it just stay with your damn PERFECT game and stop being so selfish wondering that u didnt want any f...patch.

Not really. Note that only a few of the people who have criticised 2K's PC patching velocity have posted in this thread. Furthermore, some are relieved as they thought the patch was vapourware. Me, I'm just relieved Community Manager 2K Elizabeth's "next week" line hasn't gone out of bounds, and that a lot of people will be getting an early saint Nicolas present.

For the rest, I second Praetorian: great to see the PC patch imminent for real this time, and hopefully it didn't take this long because of the added DLC.
