Thenks for the info. It would be interesting to see if it helps some issues in the game.
Not fixed my crashing
This is really bad
I have taken a look and it seems to only be available for Vista.
Also this is still a beta. It does say in the release notes that it has improved compatibility for Bioshock. Althoughit may not work for some people it is still worth a try.
It's available for XP too.
The part where it says it has improved compatibility for Bioshock is just carried over from 163.71, and will probably be included in the next few releases too. No change regarding Bioshock has been made since the previous driver.
The only actual game difference with the new driver is:
Improved compatibility for Half-Life 2: Episode 2.
Plowking. Could you please provide a link for the XP version.
Thanks for the info trek.
Here's the direct link to the XP version

it didn't correct my CtD....oh well.
After I installed the previous drivers 163.71, my CtD's where gone - BUT I think it was uninstalling a codec pack that fixed Bioshock, and not the drivers - as the then new drivers didn't fix the problem for anyone else that I'm aware of.
These new drivers 163.75 have no change regarding Bioshock but then that doesn't mean it won't fix someones bioshock due to some other change somewhere in the new file.
But basically, it's not a cure for anything here.
At least these new drivers seem to load the in-game textures much much faster than previous versions. Usually it would take 3 to 4 seconds to load all the textures, but now it's a second or 2 at the most.
Just reporting that the latest Nvidia drivers, 163.71, have significantly improved performance for me. Mouse movement is much smoother and, while I still get an initial hitching (mouse lag?) the first time I engage an enemy, the cursor (and consequently combat) is far easier to aim. Already it's like a different game. But it could still use improvement. Also, level load times are not improved by this driver (which I wouldn't expect anyway).
Specs are:
P4 3.2 GHz (stock)
3 GB RAM
Windows XP SP2
XFX GF 7950 GT (not overclocked)
game settings: all on high with detail shaders on
Odd, I'm sure I suffered a performance hit with these drivers. Nothing too drastic though. Unfortunately the 'good' shaders still don't work and I'm practically at the end of the game now.![]()
