    Best Mouse/Keyboard?

I'm not just talking from a gaming perspective, but more of a durability perstpective. I need to know what ones out live others, and what your guys' general opinions are. As in, what ones you own, or wish you did.

I used to be fine with the standard ones that would come with a computer that you might buy from Dell. But upon the advent of my new found information of building your own PC, so thos don't come with the ones I'll be (hopefully) building in the not so distant future. Also, a keyboard that my parents bought is wireless (also MicroSoft brand), but only after a year the mouse dies (tried new batteries with negative results). Also, even before then, the signal has been shotty and even when the receiver is 16" away from it it will have choppy typing (e.g. ts kebard s rly bd sgnl, which translates to, this keyboard has really bad signal). So I was hoping for a relativley cheap, durable, but not neccesarily wireless (annoying having to replace batteries all the time) keyboard and mouse. Any ideas?

I once tried cordless keyboard and mouse. No way! I feel a better control - 'specially with mouse - using "cablekind" ones.

Also I think Logitech's got best products ever of this kind.

I'd say your best bang for the buck choice is Logitech. Their keyboards are very good, and their G5 mouse (especially the new version with two side buttons) is one of the best.

i'm kind of picky about peripherals like this
i use a Logitech G15 and a G5 mouse with hyperglide feet and a steelseries 5L mouse pad

the mouse should be as friction-less as humanly possible. It takes NO effort at all to move my mouse. It's smoother than you can fathom so when doing graphic work and tuning down to the highest DPI with the DPI adjustment buttons on the G5. it's amazingly ultra-precise.

i love my G15 keyboard. the LCD screen is great when in-game since there are some application-specific plugins like WoW, CS:S, Fraps. Also has a CPU/Memory monitor which is very very helpful. I'm sure there's one out there for CPU/GPU temp but i haven't looked yet.

Regardless...these things are the tools which you use to frag ass. Choose wisely.

If you're looking for a good keyboard, get an old Model M or a 42H1292 (I guess it's pretty sad I can remember that serial number without Googling it). They were built to last forever and when you press a key, you know it. Here's some relevant info:

    review: http://www.dansdata.com/ibmkeyboard.htm

You can get used buckling-spring keyboards off eBay or get new ones here: http://www.pckeyboard.com/

One caveat: if you're buying an older keyboard, check to see if it has a PS/@ adapter. If you have a new PC that doesn't support PS/2 adapters, you will need an "active PS/2 to USB adapter," which you can find here: http://www.clickykeyboards.com/index...id/0/id/124184

And there's a new entry into the keyboard arms race, which I haven't tried but sounds pretty slick: http://www.daskeyboard.com/ The keys are "mechanical switches" rather than buckling-spring, but still, it's got to be an improvement over the squishy dead-fish rubber-dome keys that are standard nowadays.

Do Not Buy A Razor Mouse!

Please do not suggest that something is good if you haven't tried it. You can certainly mention that something exists and is an option but don't say, "It's supposed to be good." Everything is SUPPOSED to be good, no one builds an expensive item and says, "I'm going to make the worst widget ever!"

The reason I'm so emphatic about this is because I HAVE a Razor mouse and it is a huge piece of poo. The buttons are hard to reach; it's nearly impossible to use the resolution changing buttons without completely removing your hand from the mouse. The buttons also don't seem to be very well put together or designed as they don't fit very well. I was constantly getting my finger stuck UNDER the top mouse buttons since they stick out (not flush with the body of the mouse). And finally the Razor mouse just feels cheap because it's so light; that's not good. Razor needs to put some weights in the thing; at least make it feel like it's not made out of the cheap plastic it actually is made of.

DO NOT BUY A RAZOR MOUSE!

Another terrible mouse that "is supposed to be great" and isn't is the Logitech MX Revolution. It's got this horrible mouse wheel that can spin freely (like the Microsoft mice do which I HATE) or click-spin but you can't press down on it to click like it's an extra button. That functionality now changes if the mouse wheel spins freely or click-spins. Logitech has pretty much removed the [Button 4] functionality from all their mice wheels though...

I can't suggest ANY Microsoft mice because of the free spin mouse wheel, I HATE that. I like my mouse wheel to click as it spins; I don't know why, I just do

My favorite mouse is the Logitech Click! plus mouse that came in a keyboard/mouse combo pack. It's not meant for gaming but all the buttons are in the right place, are easy to use. It's wireless, a plus to me, but I'm not a pro gamer so I don't notice any performance issues. And finally it holds a charge for weeks. The only complaint is one I have with all Logitech recharging cradles; they do a really bad job of making contact with the mouse and you sometimes have to jam a Logitech mouse into its cradle to get it to charge.

Oh, and finally, I rarely install the Logitech software because of the mouse wheel click issue. It annoys me that Logitech won't let me use the mouse wheel click even though it works fine if you don't install the Logitech software.

Ok dude, chill out. I said it's supposed to be good, I didn't say "they are the best even though I've never tried them". I'm basing my argument on reviews I read. So unless you expect me to buy every mouse in the world and then tell you which is best, give me a break.

I've never had a problem with middle-mouse clicking with the SetPoint software. In XP AND Vista, it works flawlessly. Maybe your mouse is too old to use the upgraded software, but they've vastly improved that sort of thing. I actually use the thumb button for a middle-mouse click; i prefer it that way because the only problem with the G5 is that the actual clicking of the mouse wheel is kinda stiff.

Btw, your preference about Razor isn't unheard, nor are you the only person who thinks that; but SPD was trying to make a suggestion and you jumped on him because you dislike the brand. You're speaking for everyone as much as he is. Stfu!

It's ok, you just sounded a bit aggresive. It's hard to discern emotions in text form.
