Really big problem - crashes

I purchased the retail game and everything went fine, from installation to activation to actually playing it. I managed to make it to Medical Pavilion before I had to stop playing, and the game ran perfectly. When I started it up later in the evening, I started the game and ran my save-game, and it would load, then crash to desktop. I started the game up and tried it again, only to have the game restart my computer. I restarted and tried again, and then the game just simply got stuck on the reload screen.
I uninstalled, reinstalled, and then tried this again, and the same thing happened. I assumed my saves had been corrupted, so I just started a new game, and after the Bathysphere level, as soon as it started loading the next level, it crashed again.
My system specs are as follows:
AMD Athalon X2 3800+
nVidia 7800 GT
2 GB RAM

It would be nice to get an answer soon, considering I meet all the minimum requirements to play this game and I shelled out fifty dollars to play it.

What version of Windows are you using?

Also what are the drievr versions you are using for your graphics card and sound card?

i have the same specs and having the same problems.i think the game doesn't like the gf7800(gt,gs,gtx) cards.with the latest nvidia beta drivers its a little better,but the all the problems are still there.im using win xp pro sp2

Between the transition from the initial level to medical pavillion, have you tried disabling high detail shaders before loading in to the game?

It has been known to help with issues of this nature
